Maura Tierney to tell 'The Whole Truth' with Rob Morrow at ABC By Andrea Reiher -June 11, 2010
ABC's new Jerry Bruckheimer-produced legal drama "The Whole Truth" has nabbed another official star -- Maura Tierney will join Rob Morrow as the lead characters on the show.
According to Deadline, Tierney is slated to play Kathryn Peale, a deputy bureau chief in the Manhattan District Attorney's office. Morrow will play Jimmy Brogan, a rising criminal attorney who is a friend of hers. The two will square off in court each week.
Tierney is taking over the Peale role from Joely Richardson, who pulled out citing personal reasons after the recent deaths in her famous acting family. Tierney previously pulled out of NBC's "Parenthood" to receive treatment for breast cancer, but has rejoined the acting world with "Truth," which will air at 10 p.m. ET Wednesdays on ABC in the fall.
Check out these sneak peek clips for a taste of the show.

Maura Tierney Scores New TV Show After Cancer Battle June 12, 2010 02:45:02 GMT
She will replace Joely Richardson in 'The Whole Truth' as 'the product of a New England background and a sheriff father'. Maura Tierney is officially on board ABC's new legal drama "The Whole Truth" which previously had Joely Richardson on the lead. Tierney who is in remission after successfully battling breast cancer since late last year, will take the role of Kathryn Peale, a deputy bureau chief in the Manhattan District Attorney's office.
Richardson had taken the role and even shot the scenes previously but she backed out of the project to spend more time with her family. The 45-year-old buried her aunt Lynn Redgrave in May and her uncle Corin Redgrave in April. Last year she lost her sibling Natasha Richardson in a skiing accident. Joely Richardson has an 18-year-old daughter named Daisy.
Tierney herself was replaced by Lauren Graham on "Parenthood" when she found out about the cancer. Her "Whole Truth" negotiations went through several weeks before being finalized this week. She will star opposite Rob Morrow who tackles the role of criminal attorney Jimmy Brogan.
"Whole Truth", which could be premiered in Fall, is unique legal drama that chronicles the way a case is built from the perspective of both the defense and prosecution. Showing each side equally keeps the audience guessing, shifting allegiances and opinions on guilt or innocence until the very final scene.

One of my most fervent hopes is that this show is so successful that we never have to see the words "Parenthood" or "Lauren Graham" mentioned alongside Maura's ever again LOL. I mean, I get that reporters feel they *must* mention it, particularly since Maura's now replacing someone like LG replaced her, but it doesn't make me any less tired of hearing it LOL. So now we have promos and other publicity stuff to look forward to - and maybe even Maura on talk shows again!

My apologies if it's been discussed already and I just overlooked it, but could we go ahead and get a TWT sub-board? I know we'll have one eventually, but since production begins soon and some spoilers might start trickling out (there are a few from the pilot already), I'd just like us to have a place to put them.

Crazy how things have come full circle now. I'll be watching a lot of ABC this summer just to see the promos. I've been on a "NewsRadio" kick lately and it's a little weird watching the Lauren Graham NR episodes, moreso in the PlanBee/Lisa scenes.

It's definitely going to be fun to have all these things to look forward to in the next few months - and having her do an ABC show feels like a fresh start away from NBC and everything that happened last year. And we can start speculating on what hottie they need to hire as her love interest LOL. In the pilot... She has a young boyfriend who's a rock musician! That should be interesting LOL

I've been thinking about all this a lot and I've come to an interesting conclusion ;D Maybe the reason why it took so long was because she negotiated with ABC so long, about how she wanted the show to be changed ... to make it better. And finally ABC gave in because they wanted her so desperately and now we will get a better show and our weekly Maura-fix Me too. I bet it was not about money. Back in 2000 Maura talking about ER and Sally Fields, she said something that - I think - she follows too in her career: "She's about getting it right and having fun. She just loves her work. If the script wasn't right, we became a team to work on it. She's a collaborator.

You know, I like the way you guys think. This article on deadline.com mentions that Maura originally turned down an offer to star in "The Whole Truth" during pilot season, and was then re-approached after the upfronts, with negotations to follow suit. Two things can be pretty much concluded from this (one of them for sure): 1) ABC has recognised, from the beginning, just how much of an asset Maura would be to their network, and to their new legal drama (hence, the pursuit from the get-go) and, 2) Given the length of the negotiations, it seems reasonable to assume that discussions were had in regards to aspects of the show, ultimately to better suit Maura, and to create a better quality series. I love the quote you used, sissa. I think Maura is much more inclined to involve herself in a project that is well-written and that she actually feels invested in and cares about, compared to one that can only offer a really nice pay-check. The premiere cannot come soon enough. ;D
