the new tv guide cover features neela and gates - i'm not thrilled, but maybe a story inside...? due out in the US on thursday, november 2.

The last time ER was featured Maura was on the cover but I'm still disappointed that they'd choose John Stamos over say Goran, though I suppose it makes sense, because he's new. I'm not thrilled with the constant name pimping they've done with him though.

Stamos never shies away from a little self-promotion, which I suppose is why he and NBC are getting along so well these days. I can't help but notice that in almost every article pimping Stamos, Zabel is sure to mention Maura and Goran and emphasize what they've done for the show over the years. Seems it's the network rather than the producers who are pushing the "savior of ER" party line. Of course the entertainment media eat it right up without bothering to look at the facts.
I don't go in for all the Gates bashing that's been going on all over the internet fandom lately. Most of it is from people who feel that their favorite characters/actors are being shortchanged by the newbie. Personally, I'm keeping an open mind. I've seen good things as well as bad from him so far. I have to say, however, that Stamos himself has always rubbed me the wrong way. He comes off as very sleazy for some reason.

I understand how the publicity wheel works but I am a little concerned about Maura in general. Where the heck is she? She has done NOTHING - save the photo with Goran in EW - to PR the show this year. Everyone else has been featured with interview snippets, visits to talk shows, etc. etc. etc. It's nice the people include her in comments but would be nice to see her validate the changes in her character - and the show - as well.

I know! It's like she's disappeared or is hiding or something. And she cancelled her appearance on the chat show. I'm kinda worried  The only thing I can think of is her divorce. Maybe she just doesn't want to be seen for a while, while she deals with it? I dunno. I just want to see her!!! |

That very well could be...but she has to know from her encounters with fans in New York last summer that she has a wide, caring and supportive fan base. At least I HOPE she knows that! |

i think it's perfectly natural for her to be avoiding the spotlight right now. first of all, she was married to billy for more than a decade. ending that portion of her life has got to be a pretty overwhelming experience. not to mention, she could probably use some downtime after "some girls" and the intensity of this season of ER.
i also wonder if she's not trying to give some room for the newer, less established cast members to enjoy the limelight. just a thought.
