I think I read somewhere that she was cast to play Kirk's tv girlfriend, but she was recast by kirk's wife.

Ah...that late in the series? Hmm...I was thinking more in the beginning. Elizabeth Ward was the actress that was replaced by Tracey Gold.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure she mentioned it in an interview. She said something about flying with Kirk somewhere for some episodes, but he didn't want to or something.
edit - found this on imdb-

^ my mom left the little article in the boston globe that mentioned it out for me! very nice thing to wake up to! i don't have a scanner so i cant show the pretty picture but i will type the article, it's on page b10 for anyone who get the globe
When "Today" show correspondent Amy Robach needed a Boston tour guide she called on "ER"star Maura Tierney, who skipped the usual haunts and visted spots like Sullivan's hot dog stand at Castle Island instead. The segment, which airs tomorrow, also follows Tierney, a Hyde Park native, to Newbury Comics, where the actress spent a lot of time and money as a kid. As for her quick trip home, Tierney told us: "It's great to have a chance to work and visit family."

Aww...what a nice spot on Today about Boston! She is so calm, so unpretentious and nice. Very understated in her confidence and seemingly unaware of her celebrity status. I want to go to the park and have a chat with her too!! Thanks for posting the alert, Ali. I never would have seen it otherwise

It was so quietly done. So typically Maura. I check this thread every day and if I hadn't I would never have seen it. If anyone sees ANYTHING regarding promos, interviews etc. PLEASE make sure you post it here.
