Never said that she couldn't handle it....just that she doesn't generally pick work that puts her out in the forefront of things. I think she feels more personally comfortable in an ensemble piece.

I think Connie would be a great supporting player in Prime Suspect, I don't know if she could be the lead, but Maura can handle it. It would be fun to see Connie and Maura work together. ITA, I don't really think CB could be the lead either. I think it would take the show in a very different direction than if they had Maura. Of course, I really wish they were doing this pilot next year. This season just seems too soon for her to consider jumping back into another show, especially one where she'd have to carry so much of the load. But she surprised me by taking this crazy role with the Wooster Group, so maybe she'll surprise us again and be interested in this part.

interesting article: www.variety.com/article/VR1118015562.html?categoryid=1300&cs=1... "-- At the same time, the thesp talent pool has shrunk, thanks in part to cable.
That's one reason why casting is slower than usual this year.
"You count all the cable shows paying network-sized rates and attracting the same men and women," one exec said. "More people are tied up."
Big-named stars are particularly more apt to head to cable, where the episodic commitment is smaller, and the prestige level appears to be higher. That's why the nets are having a hard time casting roles that demand a sizable name, like NBC's "Prime Suspect" adaptation.
"That may not be a bad thing for all of us," another exec said. "I believe what TV does best is make stars. This forces you, instead of going to a name, to really doing what casting directors and creators ought to do -- testing a lot of people to see how things perform."... When I read this part I remembered Laura Linney will join a showtime serie called "the big c". Seems she´s not alone. Prime suspect is a great part to Maura. There´s also Beach Lane Working in NY (will be done in NY?), sitcom hours of work (a lot less than on a Drama), with Broderick and Simms - all seem good things for Maura. So, I wonder what she would choose, if it were up to her to decide.

Does Maura have a deal with NBC? I only ask because she worked for them for so long on ER, then she was going to do Parenthood with them, and now she is being rumoured for their version of Prime Suspect. Maura must have a great relationship with the network.

blasphemy - You forgot her 5 seasons doing Newsradio Her first big alcoholic character I don´t think she has sth sign or anything like that, but she certanly has a good relationship with them. Well, Maura seems to have a good name - everybody who worked with her say good things about our girl. Talking about Lisa drunk, Newradio, Simms and Hamptons I saw again this clip of "retirement" so funny www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVMT5FlKK-oI have to rewatch the commentaries coz I don´t remember exactly what Simms talks about a new pilot/what he would need... But I think he mentioned a big name (broderick now?)...

I know, not much on TV interests me at all if Maura isn't involved LOL. But my friend Kelli just got the lead role in Jerry Bruckheimer's new pilot for NBC called "Chase"! I'm so excited for her - her last show "Past Life" got canceled on Fox last week after just three episodes LOL.

I confess that I'm not sorry if Maura has declined the offer on Prime Suspect. While it would have been great to have her back on TV in a lead role, I can't help but think that PS could have been a hiding to nothing for her.
I'm British and the show had a big following here because of Helen Mirren and because the writing was very good. Even if the writing was as good, Maura could well have found herself endlessly compared to Helen Mirren. Secondly, I do wonder if she would have wanted to reprise a role developed/created by someone else. I would think that she would much prefer working with new material and a new character who she could make her own.

I agree Josie. I think it would have been a great role for her and I would love to see her on TV every week, but I was really worried about the criticism and comparisons to Helen Mirren. The actress that gets that role is going to be under tremendous pressure, and just don't think Maura needs that after what she's been through this year.
Maybe she wants to do more comedy, PS didn't seem like a show that would have any humor to it. I would be happy if she was a guest star on a really good show or two, like she's done in Rescue Me, but with more screen time.
And I wouldn't object to film role either.

Hummm, that´s quite interesting. Seems Maura is the one who said no to the part. Well, she still has the play in NY, and those 4 episodes of Rescue Me. She´s more active than most actors despite the fact she´s just returning. I´m sure she will have a lot of offers in the future. Wonder what´s going to be her next move. I´d like to see her in a movie.

Re: Prime Suspect......am still thinking that Maura is not going to take on ANYTHING that puts her in a 'lead.' Like my daughter - who is a skillful goal getter but enjoys her soccer game the most when she is setting someone ELSE up for the shot - I truely believe that Maura is an 'ensemble actress' at heart. The right piece will come along for her. It ALWAYS does.
