Sadly I don't think even NW can save ER, they need to end it sooner rather than later. As much as that pains me to say...but I would rather it went out on a semi high note rather than gasping for air in the shadow of the once great show that it was. GV and MT can only hold it for so long, and with GV jumping the sinking ship MT is being left to hold the mantle, and as fabulous as she is, it is a big ask for one actor/character to hold together a show like ER.... Makes me sad Those writers better give us some brilliant story telling, we know the acting will be top notch as usual, but the stories are another thing, I want fireworks for his exit arch....that's not much to ask is it? With these writers is probably is

Well said. The vibrance and spirit ER had as an ensemble show has died, leaving it really as Luby and friends. I love Maura with all my heart, but you can't ask one woman to carry an ensemble. I'd pay good money, though, to have them bring in Dave Foley and Andy Dick as new doctors - because heavens knows, the three of them CAN carry an ensemble! As for fireworks...naw. I'd like to see them leave it open, though a wedding-exit would be nice. I think he and Abby should go to Croatia for the wedding, TataKovac falls ill, Luka stays to take care of him. Recurring scenes of sad-but-heartfelt phone calls through the season until the end, when Abby realises her place is with him, and she packs up and shows up in Croatia (unexpectedly?) for the biggest kiss since "Human Shield". Exit Luby, as back in Chicago, County is closed due to budget cuts, and a montage of cast over the years makes us all cry. Huh? Surgical spin-off starring the ghost of Romano intentionally torturing Crenshaw, Dubenko, and Neela?

It has lost it's ensemble spark, when was the last time one of the nurses got more than a cursory remark, or come to think of it we saw the nurses. Remember when Chuny, Malik, Lilly, Yosh and others were actually part of the story helping the doctors, rather than the doctors being superstars and doing it all by themselves? Or when there was a trauma that made you think, made you cry and made you laugh all at once, and there were no anvils falling on our heads every five minutes....I miss those days with a passion.
I love Luby to bits and it is the reason I have renewed my ER love which all but disapeared in season eleven but sadly it isn't quite enough and once Goran is gone, they can keep the Luby story going but it will not be the same...Maura needs people to work off and the other characters are not near interesting enough for me.
By Fireworks I mean I want a good, honest story, nothing that is fluffy or OOC, I want to see Luka reasoning his departure, no deaths or sudden break ups, but I do want something feesable that will make Luka leave the family he has worked so hard to build for so long...anything less will be crime. We and the actors/characters deserve something spectacular.
And speaking of Andy Dick, I was watching some commentary on NewsRadio and he mentioned that he suggested to NBC that he could be on ER in a crossover storyline, made me laugh, considering he did get to be on it recently. It is a shame Phill Hartman is no more, he could have revived ER big time with his acting skills, he and Maura were the best on NewsRadio!

An article from the New York Post but... this bit made me laugh in this article --- A rep for Visnijic did not return calls or e-mails. Do we smell rumour?

Oh snap. I feel a wee bit bad now for breaking it off with Goran. I'll talk to Maura and we'll all have a sit-down to discuss plans for the future. WHEE I am so sleepy...

i like that exit. i am truly trusting tptb not to ruin Abby's character next season....i can cope without goran cos i think mt is so amazing, she could run the show by herself, but only if she's given some decent storylines. so as long as she is, and it doesn't turn into the gates show (HEAVEN FORBID!!!!!) we'll be ok! and don't forget there is some real talent remaining...morris has been great this season and him and abby r hilarious together, and have always loved and respected parminder nagra...the chemistry is still there!

Sorry, but I don't agree. I don't think the chemistry is there anymore. As season thirteen progresses my interest has been slowly waning(this long ass break isn't going to help matters any). I've realized that besides Luby, I don't care about any of the other characters. I used to love Kerry but now even she is gone. I hate to say it, but if Goran leaves and refuses to make any guest appearances than I am done with ER. I like MT but I DON'T believe she can carry this show. There are alot of people that believe the show focuses too much on Abby already. The ratings for the show are bad, the storylines aren't very interesting(imo), and several of the actors are leaving. TPTB better throw everything but the damn kitchen sink at Goran to get him to stay for at least some eppys next season. I just want the writers to give me my happy luby ending and then they can put this show out of its misery.

I am afraid that Jen's words have some merit. I have friends who consistently tell me they are increasingly bored with the show. Something like an Ames story line flashes in the pan and they watch...and then interest fades. With a show like this the medical stuff can be redundant. People who watch every week have developed affection for characters like Morris and Hope and Dubenko because we have watched them grow. A casual viewer doesn't have that kind of history with the character and sees no need to tune in if the medical stuff isn't going to be interesting. It's sad. I would miss Goran tremendously...but I am first and foremost a Maura fan. I will watch as long as she is with the show. I do not feel any kind of loyalty to anyone else on the ER radar at this point.

Like I've said before, the show must end before it looses it's... "charm" and we know that most of the "charm" (if not all) it's given by M&G (and like you've said, they are the only ones who keep me hooked to it)...I almost sure that if one of them leaves, then "The ship is probably going to sink..."

Oh, spite. I was holding out for Dr. Dave #2 - Dave Foley. He and Maura could seriously play off one another to kick some life into the show. I had such high hopes of him playing a gay attending who becomes Abby's new best friend.

I have to say, if Goran leaves I will still watch because of Maura but as many have said, I only really watch the show for Maura and Goran. However, I see the problem about the storylines because it's a hospital and they see the same thing all the time. It's not like it's a show like Supernatural or something where you can make the most bizare things into a storyline. A hospital can only do so much. But, personally I'll still watch if they have a 14th Season. I know I will.
