Storm Keeper III – The stones on the way get kicked
She was afraid to open her eye; no she was actually petrified.
She could feel the cold, the panic taking over her body. She trembled.
She couldn’t smell him anymore; his hand wasn’t holding hers and his warmth couldn’t be felt anywhere near. She knew he wasn’t in the apartment at all; Call it crazy but there were times she actually could tell when he was near or far, and right now, he was far, very far.
She could hear noises coming from the kitchen and she prayed to God it was Neela.
She slowly opened her eyes sighing as she saw she had been right, Luka wasn’t there anymore. Maybe he had never been there, maybe she had hallucinated it, dreamed it all, but as her eyes saw a tray with her favorite things she smiled to herself. It had been real! He had been here, he had cared and like always he had made fear disappear.
Luka’s cell phone kept ringing and everyone in the train was staring at him by now. He grinned but didn’t answer; instead he turned it off this time.
It was Sam; he knew from the ringing of the telephone.
He sighed rubbing the cap against his skin. He smiled thinking of the cap. Abby had given him the cap when she was living with him.
“Hey” Abby smiled at Neela once she actually had dared herself out of her room.
Neela was washing he dishes and smiled at Abby.
“Hey, Leave this hear, I’ll wash it” She pointed at the tray on Abby’s hand.
“Thanks” She put the tray on the sink and walked back to her table picking up a cigarette from the box.
“So, how did Dr Kovac end up here?” Neela asked clearing her throat. She felt weird to ask this, but maybe she should make sure of what was going on, so she could advice her friend on the right track. After all she had Sam’s scene last night while she couldn’t find Luka.
“I don’t know, he came, with a bunch of DVDs and burgers with fries. … … He wanted to make sure I was ok” She answered not being able to hide the smile forming on her lips.
“Uhm, hum, Sam looked for him the whole night.”
Abby stared at Neela with an angry look; Sam was the last person on earth she wanted to know about. For all effects Sam didn’t exist.
“So”
“So, she’s his… … … … ”
“I don’t want to know. I don’t care!… … I didn’t ask him to come. He came on his own.”
“Abby, I’m just trying to warn you, you’re walking on thin ice”
“Thanks a lot, but we have been friends way before Sam came around”
“Is that all he means to you?! If it is, than it’s fine”
“Neela, … … … yes, it’s just friendship. … … … You know what I don’t need to explain myself to you”
“Sorry, just let me remind you there is a child involved in his relationship”
Abby stared at Neela with an angry look, but still thinking of Alex.
The kid was a demon, no one could stand that kid, but still, he made Luka happy.
Alex was the kid, Luka had lost years ago and missed so badly, he was so dam happy with the kid, it wasn’t fair to yank that happiness from him.
Abby wanted to cry, she wanted to run away as far as she could go.
The hard knock on the door, took every thought from her head. How was it, that he did this to her? She could smell him even from there.
“Hang on” She walked fast to the door; she could feel her heart pounding in her chest.
“Hey”
“Hey” He smiled back. And walked inside, greeting Neela
“Cute hat”
Luka smiled “Yeah, someone once told me I looked cute in that”
“Smart girl”
“So, I was wondering, what are you doing today?”
“Well, I had a meeting with my couch, but we can talk some other time”
“Good, cause I know this Croatian place”
“No offense, but really not my type of food.” She raised her eyebrows at him.
“yes, I know, that’s why I told the owner to be prepared for any of your requests.”
“You know the owner”
“You’ll be surprised, so can we go?”
“I have to change”
“Ok, … …” Luka suddenly felt weird as his eyes met Neela on the corner of the apartment. He had to invite her, it’d be impolite not to, but he really didn’t want her to come. He cleared his throat praying to God she’d say no, “Uh, Neela, you’re welcome to come if you, hum, like”
Abby looked back, shooting Neela an angry look.
“No, I hum, I actually wan to try to sleep a little”
“Ok, hum, I’ll get changed than. What kind of place is it?”
“Oh, jeans is more than fine, trust me.”
“Since you’re wearing a cap, and jeans, I had figured as much. Didn’t you like have a shift now?”
“Uhm, Yeah, it was slow, so, Susan send me home”
“Great!” She walked outside wearing tight jeans, a long white blouse with zipper that was open leaving a cleavage that left little to Luka’s imagination, and a brown leather jacket over it.
Luka stood there staring at her cleavage and as much as he tried not to , it seemed to hypnotize his eyes.
“hey, why are you standing there?”
“Right, yeas” He said, feeling his skin warm with embarrassment.
“Bye Neela” Abby announced closing the door behind her.
