Hey guys, well, I'm kind of stuck on updates for my other fic (although I'm still thinking) but I have had an idea for a new fic. Hope you like it and Enjoy! Here it goes. Takes place during season 7, when Abby just started her ER rotation. Starts off Abby, then goes to Luby. Back-story: Abby never had her abortion but she and Richard did get a divorce shortly after the baby was born. They have a daughter and her name is Emily. She's 3 and looks just like her mother. Abby has custody of Emily, but Richard does take Emily every other weekend.
Desperado,why don't you come to your senses;
You been out ridin' fences for so long now.
Oh, you're a hard one
I know that you got your reasons
These things that are pleasin' you
Can hurt you somehow.
Abby pushed the slightly ajar door open and stepped inside. The room was dark, the only light shown from a pink castle nightlight with Belle, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty on it that was plugged into the wall between the dresser and the bed. Abby quietly made her way over to the dresser and pulled open one of the drawers. She reached inside and pulled out a pair of socks, then reaching over to pick up a Tinkerbell back pack, she stuffed them inside. Abby also pulled out a pair of jean shorts, and a pink flowered t-shirt. Once she was done, she walked over to the closet and pulled out a pair of Princess shoes. They flashed red lights as Abby tucked them inside the back pack. Abby zipped up the bag and placed it over her shoulder as she made her way over to the bed on the far side of the room. Abby smiled down at her sleeping daughter. Emily had kicked off her covers during the night and they now lay in a ball on the floor at the end of her bed. Abby pulled the covers back onto the foot of the bed before leaning over and scooping Emily up in her arms. Emily let out a whimper as she picked her up, Abby rubbed her back and Emily settled back down in her arms. Abby reached over and picked up Emily's security blanket from the floor before leaving the room.
"Richard. You said you would take her today." Abby was standing in the foyer of Richard's apartment holding a still sleeping Emily.
"I know I did, but something came up."
"Something came up?" Abby said a little annoyed.
"I got called into a business meeting. I have to go to Boston and I wont be back until next Thursday." Richard was running around getting his things together as he talked with Abby.
"Next Thursday. What about you're weekend with Emily?"
"I'm sorry." Richard threw a Manila folder into his briefcase.
"What am I supposed to do now? I'm scheduled to work all weekend."
"There's a daycare at the hospital isn't there?"
"Well, yea."
"C'mon Ab. I promise I'll make it up to you."
"Make it up to me? What about Emily?"
"I'll make it up to Emily. I'll take her to the zoo or something. But now I really have to go. My plane leaves in an hour." Richard pushed Abby out of the door.
"Maybe, I can get Mrs. Anderson to watch Emily this weekend." Richard followed Abby down the front stairs.
"Yup, sounds good." Richard said not really listening. Richard looked at his watch then waved for a cab. When the cab pulled up Richard climbed in. "I'll call Emily later tonight."
Richard called as the cab pulled away.
Abby stood on the sidewalk outside Richard's apartment. "Looks like your coming to work with me today kiddo." Abby said adjusting Emily in her arms.
"Hey Abby." A middle aged women greeted her as she walked into daycare.
"Hi Karen."
"Hi Emily." Karen leaned over and placed her hand on Emily's back. "We weren't expecting you today." She smiled.
Emily turned her head and buried it into Abby's neck.
"Yea, I know. My ex bailed on me." Abby rubbed Emily's back as she talked with Karen.
"I start my ER rotation today and it was too late to call the babysitter."
"Oh." Karen nodded her head.
"I really got to get going. I don't want to be late on the first day."
Abby handed Emily's bag over to Karen. "Her clothes are in here."
"Okay."
"Thanks." Abby smiled at Karen. "Okay baby. Mommy's got to go now." Abby said kissing Emily.
Abby handed Emily over to Karen. "No Mommy." Emily cried as Karen took her.
"Sorry baby, I have to go. I'll come back and see you on my break though." Abby kissed Emily one more time and made her way out of the daycare and down to the ER.
