Thanks! Chapter 22. In a week Joe was ready to go home. He agreed he would get rid of most of those trashy clothes that he had and cut his hair. He also wanted to be a better older brother. He felt like for the past couple months, he hasn't been treating the girls right. He wanted to make it up to them. Joe was still on crutches, so he couldn't really do much. But it didn't matter anyway, because Luka grounded him for the next month that he had to use the crutches for. Since Abby had been taking off of work for the past week, she didn't want to waste too much vacation time, so she went back to work that Tuesday. It was Luka's turn to take off. Abby just wanted one of them to stay home until they knew Joe was okay to get around on his own. Even though the girls were there and they could help him, she just felt better if her or Luka was there with him. Abby left for work that morning, nervous as ever. She hadn't been in the ER since she ran out to go to Mercy. What was everyone going to say to her? She didn't want to make a big deal out of it. That's the one thing she hated about where she worked. Everyone had to know what was going on. As soon as Abby walked into the ER, Haleh came up to her. "Hey, Abby, how's Joe doing?" Abby smiled at her. "He's doing good." Haleh patted Abby's shoulder. "That's good to hear. That other boy that was brought in, Justin, he died. He went into V-tach and there was nothing we could do." Abby nodded and walked away into the lounge. While Abby was at her locker putting on her lab coat, she thought about a few things. She just realized right then how close Joe was to death. Justin seemed like he was fine, but he apparently wasn't. While she was standing there, Dr. Weaver walked in. "Hey, Abby, how are you holding up?" Dr. Weaver said to her. "Fine, Joe's much better. Luka won't be in this week. He, well, we thought it would be a nice idea if he stayed home with him just for another week. I would have taken off but then that would leave me with not many vacation days left and..." Kerry interrupted Abby. "Abby! It's fine. He can take as much time as he needs." Kerry walked out of the lounge, and Abby just stood there. I haven't even been here 5 minutes and I'm getting annoyed already.

Thanks guys!! Chapter 23 Three weeks later Joe is doing much better. Both Luka and Abby are back at work, and Joe is slowly weaning himself off of the crutches. It was now the beginning of July, and they were all getting ready to go on vacation in Virginia. They were going to an island there called Chincoteague. Abby was there once with Richard, he wanted to make something up to her, so he took her there. She absolutely loved it though. Dani, Bella, and Joe have never been to the east coast, so they were looking forward to it. Plus, Luka wanted to make it a road trip, so they are driving the whole way. Abby has been trying to get Luka to at least take a plane to Philadelphia, but he wouldn't listen. It was both Luka and Abby's last day working before they went on vacation. They both started their shifts at 7, so they would be home by 2 and have enough time to get ready. At the ER, it was dead. They only had a few patients in exam rooms. One that dropped a can on her foot, another that hammered his finger instead of the nail, and one that got a piece of glass in her foot. Luka was over taking the glass out of the lady's foot while Abby was at the admit desk eating a pop tart. It was 9:00 now, and it was still slow. Abby saw 2 patients within the past 2 hours. Luka was now with someone who was mowing the lawn and somehow chopped the top part of their finger off. Abby was just starring out into the ambulance bay hoping one would show up. She wasn't in the mood to deal with a bloody trauma, but she was so bored, and she still had another 4 hours of work. By noon, Abby had seen about 6 patients ever since her shift started at 7. She was just coming back downstairs from taking a patient upstairs who came in with appendicitis. That was her biggest excitement of the day. As she was in the elevator, she thought about vacation. Spending time with her family seemed so nice. She always felt bad leaving her kids at home alone. Even though they weren't little anymore, she still felt like they shouldn't be home all the time like that. Just when she was thinking about this, the elevator stopped dead.

Hmmm.....she might be. You'll find out soon!Chapter 24 She thought at first that the doors were going to open, but after a few seconds, they didn't. It was an hour away from when her shift ended, and the elevator had to get stuck. Abby started to panic. First off, she was claustrophobic, that's all she wanted to do was be stuck in an elevator, alone. Second, she just didn't like elevators. Abby started banging on the door, hoping someone would hear her. "Help!" Abby screamed. The only thing in the elevator that worked were the lights, or else she would have pressed the emergency switch. All she could do now was wait. A trauma came in and Luka was looking for Abby. The only doctors on were Luka, Morris, and Abby. As Luka walked into the trauma room with Morris, he couldn't help but wonder were she was. "Morris, have you seen Abby?" They lifted the patient over to the gurney, and the paramedics left. "Um, yeah. She took a patient upstairs to the OR." Luka looked at Morris and didn't say anything else. He still had this feeling that something was wrong though. Abby checked her watch. She was in there for 20 minutes now and she still didn't hear anyone. Luka's probably worried. Luka's always worried whenever he can't find Abby. She rarely ever goes upstairs, only if she has to. She felt the elevator move, just a nudge, then heard the ding, and the doors opened. They opened to the 3rd floor, and Abby made a run for it to the nearest fire escape door. Once she got there, she opened it, and just stood out there. The fresh air felt good after being in an elevator by herself for nearly 20 minutes. Luka walked out of the trauma room and pulled his gloves off. The patient just died, and he was pissed because he thought they could have saved her. He was relieved when he saw Abby walking down the stairs. He walked over to her, and stopped her. "Hey, where have you been? You were up there for nearly 45 minutes." Luka said. "Oh the elevator just got stuck again, no big deal." Abby wanted to make it sound like it was no big deal. She hated it when Luka got worried. "Are you okay?" Abby looked at him as if that was the most stupid question to ever ask. "Of course I'm fine, just a little shaken up, but I'm fine." They walked together into the lounge and hung up their lab coats. They wouldn't have to see this place for the next 2 weeks. Maybe it was a good thing they were driving to Virginia. It's not like they would want to spend all 2 weeks in Virginia, this way, they can stop at all the places along the way they see that looks cool. Whenever she went on vacations, she always wanted to have a really nice time, maybe this time, she will.

Thanks!! Chapter 25 Abby woke up to the sound of the alarm clock. It was 3:00 am, and they were hoping to be on the road by 4. Abby turned over to see if Luka was awake, and he was. He was staring right into her eyes. "Ah! Jesus Luka. Don't scare me like that." Luka let out a chuckle. "Come on, lets get up." Luka got up, walked into the bathroom, and turned the shower on. Abby got up too, but she went to wake Joe, Dani, and Bella up. Abby walked into Dani and Bella's room first. She opened the door, but didn't see them in their beds. She walked more into their room, and saw that their bathroom light was on and the door was half closed. Abby knocked on the door. "Come in!" Dani and Bella said. She opened the door, and surprisingly, saw both of them, dressed, hair all done, and ready to go. They were just finishing brushing their teeth now. Abby didn't know what to say, this was very unusual for them. "Umm....how long have you guys been up for?" "Oh, just about a half hour, Joe's up too." Bella said. Abby walked down past Joe's room and then past the bathroom. He wasn't in either. She wrapped her robe tighter around her and starting walking down the stairs. Once she got to the bottom, she saw the kitchen light was on. Joe was in the kitchen drinking a cup of coffee. "Oh, hey mom. You want some? Sorry, I couldn't wait til we got to quickchek. I was really thirsty for coffee." He obviously sounded wide awake and he was dressed and ready to go. "Um, no thanks honey, and it's fine. Wow, me and your father thought waking you guys up at 3 would be pretty tough, I guess it wasn't too bad considering I was the last one to wake up." Joe chuckled. "Yeah, Dani and Bella are really looking forward to this vacation, I am too. It's going to be nice, you know, to get to go someplace pretty far." Abby smiled at Joe. In the past month he became so mature, his voice is even changing. When she told him Justin died, he was upset, but just shrugged it off. She was so glad that he was out of that whole mess. When Abby was done with her shower, all they had to do was pack up the car and leave. Joe and Luka had their suitcases packed, they really didn't need anything else. On the other hand, Abby, Dani, and Bella kept finding stuff that they couldn't survive two weeks without. Abby walked out of the bathroom with a bunch of hair products and dumped them on the bed. Dani and Bella came in the room with Luka and Abby, both of them carrying a handful of stuff too. Abby got a small traveling bag and starting putting the hair care products in there. Luka started picking some up and reading them. Hair spray, anti-humidity hair spray, curl scrunch, smoothing cream, leave in conditioner, blow dry lotion. "Guys, are you even going to use half this stuff?" Luka said. All three of them looked at Luka like he was crazy. "Uhh...yeah." They all said. He shook his head and walked out of the room. By 3:45, everything was packed into the car. They double checked everything was off and that they had everything packed, and they were off to Virginia.

Hmmm....I think your going to like what happens in the next few chapters! Chapter 26 "Oh my god it's only 7! It feels like we've been driving for ever!" Dani blurted out. Abby and Dani were the only ones that couldn't sleep in the car. Whenever they did, they would wake up with a miserable headache. "Actually, it's 8 because of the time change. I should probably change the clock. If I don't, it's going to get pretty confusing." Luka said. "Are you guys getting hungry at all?" Abby said. There was an exit coming up for Shipshewana, Indiana, it seemed like it would be a nice little town to grab a bite to eat. All 3 of them, Joe, Dani, and Bella shrugged. Luka pulled off the Indiana Toll Road and followed the signs to Shipshewana. While they were driving into the town, they noticed something very different about it. Very....Amish. "Ohhh...cool, I gotta get my camera out and take some pics!" Joe said. He saw a horse and buggy go by. Abby and Luka started to chuckle. All the restaurants seemed like they were all run by Amish people, so they just picked one. It was very nice in there. They had a wonderful breakfast, and by the time they got back to the toll road, everyone was wide awake. It was going to be a long drive though. About an hour later, they made it to the Ohio state line. Everyone cheered. It was the kids first time in Ohio, so they were excited. Once they got on the Ohio turnpike, Luka turned up the radio when he heard a song he liked. "Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl....." Dani, Bella, and Joe all looked at Luka. Abby looked back at them with a strange look on her face, and then she looked at him. "At the Copa, Copacabana" "The hottest spot north of Havana" "Dad!" Joe, Bella, and Dani screamed at the same time. Luka turned the radio down. "What?" Everyone was laughing except him. He was just sitting there with a straight face on. They kept on driving, trying to get what Luka just did out of their minds.

Thanks!
Here's the last chapter for today! Chapter 27 Finally, the next day, they were in Philadelphia. They were now on Route 95. Dani looked over to the left and behind the fog, she saw a bridge. That was something that was very different about them. Bella could fall asleep so easily in a car, she wasn't afraid of heights or anything. Dani on the other hand, had to know everything that was going on, and she had a bad phobia of bridges. "Umm...dad, we don't have to go over any big, scary bridges, do we?" Dani asked nervously. Abby looked at Luka too. She was like Dani, she also hated bridges. "Well, theres the causeway leading over to Chincoteague, but I don't think theres any other bridges." Luka added. It had been so long since Abby had been there, that she didn't remember. All the way down to Delaware, they kept seeing bridges leading over to New Jersey. It was unbelievable how close they were. Maybe on the way back they would stop. They entered a town named St. Georges, Delaware. Dani saw a bridge coming up, and sunk down in the seat. Joe started teasing her as they were going over it, but Abby didn't want to say anything, because she was nervous too and Luka, Luka just wanted to keep his eyes on the road. 3 hours later, they came into Virginia. About a mile later, they turned left down a road that would take them to the island. "Okay, right now we're going over a causeway." Luka said. Dani and Abby slumped down in their seats. It took them about 5 minutes to get over it, the longest 5 minutes of their lives. Once they were on the island, they were so happy. It took them nearly 20 hours to get there, but they made it. They got out of their car at the hotel, and went in to check in. Once everything was unloaded, Dani, Bella, and Joe wanted to walk around the island. It was 6 pm, and it wasn't dark yet, so Abby and Luka figured that Joe could take them around while Abby and Luka relax in the hotel room. "Dad can we go please??" Bella pleaded. "Yeah dad please? Joe doesn't mind taking us around." Dani added. Joe just smiled at Luka. "It's no big deal, I really don't want to sit in the hotel room." Luka looked at Abby, and Abby looked at Luka. "Okay, but be back here by 8:30." All 3 of them ran off, and Abby and Luka walked into the room. "Well, we have the whole room to ourselves for 2 hours, what do you want to do?" Abby said looking up at Luka. He walked over to her and grabbed her shoulders. "You know what I want to do." They began to giggle, and it started. Within 5 minutes they were down on the bed doing what they wanted to do for a long time. It was 8:15, and Joe was walking up to the room with Dani and Bella. Luka forgot to give him a key to the room, so hopefully they were still awake. In the room, Abby and Luka were both curled up in each others arms. They heard the knock at the door and realized what time it was. "Oh my god Luka! Get up! And put some clothes on!" Abby threw on some sweat pants and a T-shirt while Luka went to get a shower. Abby opened up the door for them and they walked in with smiles on their faces. Joe seemed tired, but Dani and Bella had bags up stuff, souvenirs, shirts, anything they could find, and it was only their first day there.
