I think he was actually referring to him not knowing that Abby and Luka had seperated, rather than not knowing they were married. There is no doubt he knew -- it would be too big a thing for the writer's to mistake when they had made multiple references to Moretti's knowledge of their relationship status -- like when he first arrives in the ER and tells her she'll have to get used to working with a Chief she isn't sleeping with, or that night in the bar when everything goes to shit.
But, of course, that didn't stop the writers from switching around the names of Luka's wife and children. But that's how I read that scene in the finale, anyway.
Moretti was a complete and utter... -- I can't even think of a word that would adequately describe what an a**hole he was for sleeping with Abby that night, especially knowing she was married. And unless he was completely blind (no pun intended), knowing she was completely wasted, too. I know that he'd also been drinking and was also drowning his sorrows, but I don't know how he could justify his actions, or think that persuing her like that could be okay.
And not that it fixed anything or made it okay, but I did appreciate that he apologised to Abby for what happened. And I know that Abby played just as big a part in that night as he did, so I don't presume to put all the blame on Moretti; I know it wasn't all his fault. But it is easy to look at him and point the finger in his direction the most. Easy to think he should have known better.
Anyway, like you Sallins, I'm glad Luka got to knock him to the ground. I can't imagine what that must have been like for Luka, seeing the man that had touched his wife. My stomach drops at the thought.
