All I can say is OH MY GOD! This episode was depressing but amazing. It was intense and I cried practically all the way through out. This was by far the best ER season premiere ever.

This epsiode was amazing. I was biting my nails the whole time. Goran's acting when Luka broke down in the bathroom was amazing. THat had to be one of my favorite scenes. There are so many though like when Abby told Luka she didn't want the baby to be alone Also, I nearly fell off my seat when Sam shot Steve way to go Sam! I am so excited for next week. I can't wait to see the return of Sally Field.

What to say about last nights episode?? It was absolutely amazing and utterly astonishing. Those four months were worth the wait. So, I'll recap what I've thought about and my reaction after seeing the whole thing twice and the Luby scenes about 5 or 6 times each. It was definitley one of the best Luby episodes, imo.
The first thing that struck me was the "previously on..." because they used "Open Your Eyes" as music instead of the normal ER drumming. I liked it since it reminds the viewer of the intensity that 21 Guns when it finished and brought me back right to the moment. I loved the opening. It was a great mix of the hospital and Sam and it was so sad when they were like "Abby went to get the thoroceel" because we all know she's collapsed. It was a shocker to see no credits in the opening and I thought they did it just for this ep, but apparently it's for the whole season. Although its different, I don't hate the show because of it. It's following a new trend in TV and is keeping up with that. I noticed that about the whole ep; how the style was different. And if they're adding more footage because of the removal of credits, that's great. Because ER is now starting at 10:01 every Thursday instead of 9:59. My guess is because Grey's Anatomy runs until 10:01 and I'm one person who watches both shows. However, I missed the last seconds of Grey's since ER started, but I doubt much was missed.
Seeing Luka get up right away and go to Abby was one of the things I've been dreaming of seeing since the finale. Sooooo cute!!! And the moment they had when they saw the ultrasound and found out the baby was a boy was amazing. It was definitely an Abby thing to have Luka stay and be with Jerry since she believed she was alright. I felt she was in denial about the possible premature birth because she was so scared. Maura played it exceptionally. And since Abby had OB experience, her knowledge was more than any other doctor who's given birth. I loved the scene when she took the IV away from the nurse cuz it really shows her denial and scared feelings.
The next Luby scene where they're discussing names was probably the cutest since it showed that they can still have a good laugh, and the banter and playfulness between them rocked. This scene exlemplified the Mauran chemistry. When Luka first mentioned his father's name was "Mongo" I knew it had to be a joke and wanted to laugh before he broke into a smile. It was the best laugh, of the few there were, for the episode. The surgery scene was heartbreaking with the song and the cuts between the surgery and the looks shared between Abby and Luka along with their individual close-ups. I loved how Luka held Abby's hand for every second even when he moved around the bed. When Joe was born and there wasn't a first cry made the scene feel very sad since you can understand that the situation is serious, and it felt almost like the birth didn't happen since there were no baby cries that you're supposed to be expecting. But, when/if they get to extubate Joe, his cries will be all the more special. And when the NICU doctor says "come on, give me a cry" I thought it was Luka the first time I heard it since the shot is on his face but the accent was so different it felt like a bad edit. I then realized it was the doctor.
Finally (sorry this is so long), The finale Luby scene in Abby's recovery room was one of their greatest. They seem to understand what one another has to say, and Luka videotaping Joe was too cute. I first thought it was a different baby since Joe in the NICU was covered in tubes, but since he goes to see Abby right after, he must have filmed it right after they cleaned him off. The video was priceless. And Abby talking about naming him after the "pure" fighter was sooo good. Maura outdid herself. She was outstanding. Even though she asked Luka if it would be ok if they named the baby Joe, I thought she would have known that his father's name is Joe, in English. Or at least that's what I think Luka had said. That line was my favorite; when she lets her tears out and asks him if it would be ok. Luka's breakdown at the end was so sad and it broke my heart.
Regarding Jerry, I totally thought he was going to die because I knew a non series regular was going to, but I'm glad he made it through. I was so shocked when Steve shot Mary and Rafe because Rafe seemed to be in so much control. But then Steve became a psycho freak. When he first started kissing Sam I predicted what would happen, but it didn't make the scene any less disturbing. It wasn't a violent rape, but it was so disturbing to watch. I'm glad she killed Steve although she could get into major trouble. I can't wait to see what happens next. The preview for next week looks amazing. I feel like they're keeping with the current style of the show that is focusing on the characters and not patients. Bloodline had no patients since they were the patients and the doctors. I hope they keep up with all the great character development. It seems to be a vital part of the success of TV shows lately. And I'm eagerly awaiting the scenes between Abby and Maggie because I love them together.
Also, ER won it's time slot for the ratings. And it was up against all new programming. This is from TVGuide: "Leapfrogging to 10 pm, we had a bit of a horse race as ER, still showing a pulse in its kazillionth season premiere, admitted an audience of 15.5 million, edging out newbies Shark (CBS, debuting with 14.9 mil) and Six Degrees (ABC, with 13.3 mil)"

Lubbyfan, I can't tell you how much I appreciate the screencaps. You are a star. I nearly crashed my computer which refused to download TORRENT. All my French buddies were as hysterical as me. But finally, I made it.(Nobody 'll ever understand why suddenly...) I hate technology. But, thanks to you, I watched greedily the screencaps and had tears in my eyes. Now, with the eppy, I suppose I'll cry my eyes out very soon. But MERCI BEAUCOUP. All my friends came on TDWD to watch your screencaps and want to give you a big, big hug!!!
