Okay....I am not exactly sure who is responsible for proposing actors/shows for Emmy nomination consideration. Is it the network? The production company?? The agents??? The actors themselves??? It is evident from Maggie's observations at the Paley presentation that Maura does not like to watch herself on screen. Who better to create an 'Emmy reel' for her than someone who does?? I am proposing a challenge. Using the work we have seen thus far this season, which scenes would you use to create a 4 minute sampling of Maura's best work....for Emmy consideration???

Interesting challenge...I'd like to see what comes up.
However, for Emmy consideration it's not a sampling of clips from different episodes. Actors submit one episode (not sure who really chooses it) for the category of either Best Actor/Actress or Supporting Actor/Actress. For consideration of the whole show (Best Drama or Best Comedy) the producers select 4 episodes that showcase what they think is the best work of the season.

It's an interesting thought, nonetheless. If I had to pick four scenes just from this season, I'd go with the following:
"Blackout" in the bar opposite Moretti/Tucci. "Blackout" at the airport. "Coming Home" in the lounge. "300 Patients" in the apartment opposite Luka/GV.
If I were her and interested in an Emmy, I'd submit "Blackout" or "300 Patients." Thing is, I'm not sure she'll submit anything. I sense that the first nomination was more of something she was coerced into - she doesn't seem to like the limelight, though she plays it off gracefully.

One episode?? Okay. I probably knew that. This could also explain why Mariska Hargitay is nominated year after year and Maura is not. With a show like L&O, the character and her actions can be clearly defined within one episode. With ER, it's really impossible to understand the character driven drama which cover a multitude of episodes. If one were not a regular ER viewer, would the Luby action/acting in '300 Patients' be as devastating had they not seen 'Blackout'?? I think not. The reason I susoect this is because I finaly talked my sister into watching the last episode....and she hasn't been a regular viewer for the past three years. She doesn't enjoy the show any more because she doesn't know the characters. The medicine stuff doesn' intrique her any more because she says it's the 'same old same old'. She thought '300P' was 'okay' but she just didn't 'get' it.

I don't know about you guys but what I don't understand is how can they nominate Patricia Arquette for Medium when the season for medium hasn't even started yet.

According to the WGA, it has nothing to do with actual talent - the Golden Globes are all about who lobbied the Foregn Press the most. So by that standard, Maura wouldn't be nominated - she's no publicity whore.

Ach...nooooo....I am a Mariska fan as well. I was just commenting on the difference in the shows styles and how much easier it is to pick ONE episode that showcases a talent.

It's true - MH could easily submit one episode to showcase her prowess. MT's career is far more indicative of her talent - esp. the transformation to the quirky, neurotic Lisa Miller to the insecure med student/nurse Abby Lockhart to the tortured woman that is Dr. Lockart. Hell, submit everything from Dead Women to current - that could blow any career away!

My husband and I were discussing how so many successful actors today are basically one trick ponies. Even Jack Nicholson tends to be 'Jack Nicholson' in every role of late. Maura is more of a chameleon. She manages to slip into the skin of any character she plays and make them different. I am especially anxious to see what sort of part she plays in 'Baby Mama'.
