Thanks guys! Chapter 4 Old memoriesAbby awoke to hear the sound of Luka swearing trying to put his pants on. "Need help?" Abby asked Luka as she sat up in bed. "Nope, I'm fine." Luka fell over as he tripped over his pants while putting them on. Abby couldn't help but laugh. "That was not funny." Luka said as he was trying to get up from the floor. Abby began to laugh even harder. Luka just shook his head as he got up from the floor. By the time Abby finally calmed down, Luka was well on his way towards the living room, almost ready to leave. Abby quickly jumped out of bed so she could say goodbye to Luka. "I'll call you later on in the day, okay?" Luka said to Abby. "Okay, that's fine." Abby watched as Luka walked out of the apartment and closed the door behind him. She decided that since Emily was still asleep, that she would get her shower. She got some sweat pants and a t-shirt out of her closet and walked into the bathroom, shutting the door behind her. Abby got the quickest shower she could possibly get. Since Luka wasn't there to watch Emily, she didn't want her waking up and going into the kitchen and hurting herself. Abby wrapped the towel around her body as she got out of the shower and walked over to brush her teeth. She then threw on the sweatpants and t-shirt that she had gotten out of the closet earlier. To her surprise, Emily was still sound asleep in her bed. She walked into the bedroom and opened up her closet door. She began unstacking boxes and moving them over towards the bed. Once she got to the last box, she looked at it and smiled. The box was filled with all her photos from when she was younger. She blew the dust off of the box and saw "IMPORTANT PHOTOS" written on the lid with sharpie. Abby slid the box out of the closet and carried it over towards the bed. She sat down on the bed with the box and took the lid off. Right on the top, was a picture of Kara and Abby on the last day of their senior year. The next one was the picture of the cheerleading squad from the same year. One little tear trickled down her face. Everything was so quiet for 5 minutes, until the phone rang. She knew exactly who it was. Abby reached over towards the nightstand and picked up the phone. "Hey Kara."

Thanks! Chapter 5 Breaking it to LukaAbby had just gotten off the phone with Kara. She decided to do it. Friday she would get on a flight to Newark, and stay out there for a weekend. The only thing was, breaking the news to Luka. This would be the perfect way too. There was something going on that he wasn't telling her. Something that he might not have wanted to take part in, but Abby still felt the need that he should have told her what it was. Abby saw Emily's shadow coming around the corner from her bedroom into hers. "Mommy, can you make me some cereal?" "Sure sweetie." Abby got up from the bed and took Emily into the kitchen. Emily hopped up onto one of the chairs while Abby got a box of cereal and a bowl out of the cabinet. She poured the cereal into the bowl and walked over to the fridge to get the milk out. She realized that telling Luka the news was one thing, but another thing was telling Emily. After the dream Emily had last night, Abby told her that she wouldn't leave. Taking her along was an option, but it was also an option for her to stay here with her father. Emily and Luka barely spent time together. Emily loved to be around her mom. This might also give them a chance to bond. Later on that night, Luka walked in, looking tired as could be. She thought maybe that she could talk to him in the morning about it, but it was Monday night, and she was leaving on Friday. She had to talk to him as soon as possible. Emily was already sound asleep, so when Luka sat down at the kitchen table, Abby sat down right across with him with her hands folded in front of her. "Luka.." Abby started out. "Um, my friend from high school, Kara, called me today. I know, this is going to be hard to explain, but I lived in a stupid little town that always played this game on Thanksgiving against another town, it's just a big confusing mess. Anyway, you know I was a cheerleader. There is an organization sponsoring to replay the game and make it into this movie. I told Kara that I'll go back and do it." Luka's face was frozen. "What? Wa, wait, your serious?" Abby nodded her head. "Why couldn't we have discussed this first?" "Well, Kara just called me today. I wanted to let her know right then, not sometime tomorrow night." "When's your flight and how long are you staying for?" Luka said in a calm voice. "Friday morning and I'll be home late Sunday night. I think I will probably have to go back out there a few times though, for practice and then eventually for the game." Luka sighed and shook his head. He pushed his chair out from under the table and stood up. Abby still sat at the table, looking up at Luka. "What? Are you mad at me now for this? It's just something I want to do, Luka. It's flying out there a couple times for 2 months, that's it. What's wrong with it?" Luka looked back down at Abby, who was looking at him like she was about ready to cry. "It's not that I don't want you to go, I was just hoping that we could have avoided this. I guess it's not possible." "What do you mean?" Luka walked over and knelt down next to Abby's chair. He put his hand up to her cheek. "I mean that I was the quarterback that got hit in the head with the ball." Abby chuckled, and then they both bursted out into laughter. Luka started to rub Abby's knees. "Yeah, that letter I got yesterday, wasn't really from those stupid people offering me $5,000 a week, it was from my friend Mike. I just thought it was a bunch of bull crap. Maybe I'll rethink it now that your doing it too." "That would be nice." Abby sad with a smile. Luka pulled Abby up from the chair and walked with her into the bedroom.

Thanks! I'm sorry I haven't updated this in awhile. Right now I'm actually going to the game that this whole story is based around, so I will have a better idea of what's going to happen and how I'm going to write this. Chapter 6 JasmineAbby dropped Emily off at daycare at 10 am. After she dropped her off, she walked down to the ER, wondering if Luka had made up his mind yet. She spotted him at admin signing off on some charts, and walked right up to him. Not too quiet, but quiet enough where everyone wouldn't hear her, she asked him. "So, have you decided yet?" "Yeah, I called him earlier this morning. I have a flight out next Friday. I guess they switch practices every other weekend." "Well, that's good. At least this way we don't have to worry about taking Emily with us or leaving her with someone until game day." "Abs, trauma one, lets go!" Morris yelled to Abby. She shrugged and slowly walked away. Luka laughed at it. He knew how much she hated being called Abs, especially by Morris. 35 minutes later....."Abby, just, stop. There's nothing more you can do." Abby slowly stopped doing CPR and stepped back from the little girl on the table. "Time of death, 10:43 am." She tore off her gloves and removed her glasses. Everyone else except Sam and Abby exited the room. Abby looked out to the parents, who were both almost in tears. "Go ahead, I'll clean up." Sam said to her. Abby walked out of the trauma room slowly and approached the parents. "Mr. and Mrs. McCarty, I'm very sorry. We did everything we could for Jasmine but her injuries were too severe." Abby held one of the trauma room doors open for them as they both walked in to say goodbye to their daughter. Abby walked towards the stairs, but instead of going up, she had to sit down for a minute. Jasmine was the same age as Emily, 3 years old. She didn't deserve to die. Susan saw Abby sitting on the stairs with her hands over her face. She stopped and looked at her for a minute, then walked over towards her to see what was the matter. "Hey, Abby, what's wrong?" Susan asked very calmly. "It's nothing." Abby said while wiping a tear away from her left eye. "I just had a patient, she was a little girl, about Emily's age. She was shot 3 times by gang members and died." Susan grabbed Abby and gave her a hug. "Oh Abby, don't worry about these things, nothing is going to happen to Emily." "Yeah, and I bet that's what the girls parents thought too." "Abby, it's all part of being a mother. You worry too much about these things. Just relax and tell yourself that nothing like this will ever happen to Emily, okay?" Abby shook her head and wiped more tears away that were now streaming down her face. "Okay, well, I got to go request some time off from Weaver upstairs." "Oh yeah, your not going to be here Friday right?" Abby shook her head no. Susan and Abby both stood up from the stairs. Susan started to walk away. "Good luck, I'm sure she will be understanding about it." Abby looked back at Susan, and started walking up the stairs.

Thanks! Any feedback is appreciated! Chapter 7 Time offAbby sat in a chair in the waiting room of Kerry's office. Carter was having a meeting with her, which should have been over by now. It seemed as if she was waiting forever, when it was really only 5 minutes. As soon as she saw John walk out, she stood up, waiting for Kerry to walk out. "Abby, I was expecting you. Come on in." Abby followed Kerry into her nicely lit office. She had pictures of Henry on her desk, even one of Henry and Emily together. "I need some time off." "For what?" Abby hesitated for a moment. It wasn't really the easiest thing to explain. "Uhh...well, it's complicated. I'll need every other Friday off for 2 months. Then 4 days off at the end of April." Kerry sat back in her chair and folded her hands. "Usually, I would have to really think about something like this, but since you haven't taken any time off in awhile, I'll take it into consideration." A smile slowly spread across Abby's face. "Thank you, thanks. This is something I really want to do so I appreciate it." Abby stood up and began to walk out of Kerry's office, when she stopped her. "Abby, when do you have to know by?" "Uh, Friday." She started to hope that the late notice wouldn't change Kerry's mind. "You'll have a letter in your mailbox by the end of the day." "Thanks." Abby said while walking out of her office. She closed the door to Kerry's office, then walked out and closed the other door behind her and leaned against it. She hoped that this could be possible. Later on, as soon as Abby's shift was over, she rushed right over to her mailbox in the lounge before going up to daycare to pick up Emily. Sure enough, there was Kerry's letter, sealed tight in an envelope. She rushed to open it. Once she finally had it out of the envelope, she quickly unfolded it and began to read. Abby, Seeing how much you are excited to participate in this event, I am giving you the time off. Luka has already spoken to me about it too, and I am all for giving him the time off also. Please make sure to call in the days that you will not be here so all the staff members know.
Thank you and I hope you have a great trip.
Kerry WeaverAbby read the letter over again once more and began jumping up and down. Kerry never gave days off this easily. You would normally have to have a very good reason, apparently this was a good enough reason for her. Abby ran out of the lounge, anxious to find Luka. She found him walking down the hall past the trauma rooms. "Hey! Luka! Weaver gave us the time off!" "Wow, that's great! Listen, why don't you go on upstairs and get Emily, I just have a few more sheets of paperwork to finish and then we can head out." Abby ran up the stairs, taking 2 at a time, until she got up to daycare. Emily came running over to her with a picture that she colored in. "Mommy, look!" Abby looked at the picture, it was a puppy, colored purple. Abby chuckled at it, it was very cute. Emily's favorite color was purple. "It's beautiful sweetie. We will put it right on the fridge when we get home. Thanks Donna!" Abby waved to Donna, and walked back down to the ER with Emily. The drive home was quiet, except for Emily talking about her picture. Abby had told Luka not to talk about it. Emily didn't want them leaving, so Abby would need to find a way to break it to her. At least they weren't going to be gone at the same time. Well, that is, until the actually game, then they might just take her with.

Thanks guys!! Sorry it's been so long! Chapter 8 Saying goodbye/AirportEmily slept between Abby and Luka the whole night. They had told her about it earlier in the week, but up until now she has been a nervous wreck. It was only 2 days that Abby would be gone. She might even be able to pull off leaving Friday night, but she didn't want to be late for the first trip, so she thought leaving early would be best. 4:00 a.m. the alarm went off. Abby hit the snooze button and mumbled. She felt the comforter being pulled off of her and her whole body got a chill. Abby sat up to see Luka with a grin on his face holding the blanket in his hands. He was already dressed and ready to go. Did she over sleep? "Luka, is it late?" "No, Emily wouldn't sleep, so I just decided to get up. You still have time, don't worry." Abby managed to drag herself out of bed and into the bathroom. She looked in the mirror. Her hair was all over the place. The next few hours seemed to fly by. Before she knew it, Abby was at the airport saying goodbye to the two most important people in her life. "Mommy! Please don't go! I want you to stay!" "Honey! I'll be home in a few days! I promise! You will have fun with daddy. Be good!" Abby couldn't stand seeing her daughter cry like that. As she walked away from Luka and Emily, she looked back to see Luka holding Emily with her crying on his shoulder. As she got on the plane, she couldn't help but think to herself, Am I doing the right thing?
