Erin´s arc is a mistery to me. I would say that Luka going to Croatia to take care of his father was not out of character. In fact, even Luka moving out and divorcing Abby wouldn´t be out of character to me (all they had to do was show his concern with Joe, and Luka not able to forgive her). He was very close to leave her and this end would break my heart, but was possible.
But Erin´s arc was - to me - completely out of character. He was in depressing mood, but still, I can´t believe all he did. Specially the fact he didn´t even try to talk to her during all the time she was in treatment at hospital. The very single positive point is the fact that she didn´t die (I still can´t believe this was the original plan).
So, folks any theory about what the writers wanted with Erin/Luka´s arc?
I don´t think it was to show us his depression, all the women he slept with, the drinking, and that boy´s condition -in Hindsight - would be enough.

I have a question: How old is Luka? We all know Abby is 37 in season 12 but it never comes out how old he is. I was wondering because he lost his virginity when he was 18 the Croatian war was from 92 to 95, and Jasna was 7? when they died

I assumed Luka was 2 - 3 years older than Abby, so he would be 39 or 40 at the time she was pregnant with Joe. Just my assumption.
Another thing that got me was... it always bugged me the obvious age difference between Luka and Sam was never referred to. He was like, what? at least 10 - 11 years older than her, and yet that was never mentioned. I think it would have been a significant thing to bring up, when it was clear he was thinking about starting a family again, and she was clearly not interested in that, wanting to 'get her life back' as soon as Alex was old enough.
Call me weird, but that just always bothered me.

-San,
You're right, there had to have been a significant age difference between Sam and Luka, given the fact she was 15 when she had Alex, making her around 25, 26 when they started dating (there was reference to Alex being 11, I remember). And Luka had to have been well into his 30s by then.
Given the fact that he was in Vukovar doing an internship when the city was bombed in 1991, and he had to have had a few years of medical school behind him by the time he did an internship... geez. Let's see.
Sam first appeared in Season 10 (2003). I'm not entirely familiar with Croatian med school, but even if Luka was a mere 22 when the city was bombed in '91, that would make him 34. And it would be more realistic that he'd be a few years older than that, at least.

Sorry if I'm revisiting the floor location of Abby's apartment, but yeah, this has always bugged me, too.
In the end of Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magic, she and Carter trudge up to the second floor to her apartment door.
But in the beginning of If Not Now, her apartment is very clearly on the first floor.
I shouldn't let stuff like this bug me, but it does. You'd think between the writers, actors, directors, somebody would remember this stuff and keep it straight.

Here's what I'm thinkin': the actress who played Erin Harkins, Leslie Bibb, payed the writers to create a kiss scene between her and Goran! LOL! I know that's what I'd have done!

No wonder his son was so troubled, he had no one to count on. His father was a criminal, his mother didn´t want parenting responsibility, she wanted to be his friend, pal. Gee Here's what I'm thinkin': the actress who played Erin Harkins, Leslie Bibb, payed the writers to create a kiss scene between her and Goran! LOL! I know that's what I'd have done! But she didn´t kiss him. In fact he didn´t kiss a lot of women: -abby -carol -was that a kiss kiss? -sam -gillian -the mother´s girl patient -someone else? I don´t remember him kissing Chunny, the prostitute nor Nicole (well, maybe I had my own blackout).

Sissa--
Yes, Erin and Luka kissed in Hindsight. She took him home because he was drunk and just after entering the apartment, she asked where the bedroom was. He laughed and said she moved too fast. She countered that he was drunk and needed some sleep. Then he looked at her, ran his hands down her scarf and said, "Erin, you're a very pretty girl," and then kissed her.
Granted, it wasn't earth shattering, but it was a kiss, nonetheless.
Luka kissed Carol the night she bought a car and it broke down, while they were waiting for the tow truck. Then he kissed her again in her last episode, Such Sweet Sorrow.
Again, nothing crazy or mind-blowing.
He and Gillian kissed a couple times -- once when she left to go back to her boyfriend and then again when she returned to visit, which infuriated Sam.
Sam and Luka -- the first time she kissed him was on the El. The train kinda jerked and she bumped into him, looked up at him, and grabbed him down for a kiss.
They kissed again the first night they had sex. She stopped by his place to ask him out to dinner because Alex was at a friend's house. He went to grab his coat but they ended up kissing instead. He pulled her shirt off, then they ended up in bed, him on top of her.
I remember another Samka kiss in which she ran out in the ambulance bay, jumped up into his arms and kissed him.
I know there were other Samka kisses, but I don't have time to research it.

If I were Laura Cerón I would be furious with the writers for not let her shoot her "thing" with Luka. All she got was fighting scenes.

Yeah, and weren't Chuny and Mark Greene supposed to have had some sort of fling that was never shown but mentioned after the fact?
I love the supporting actors/actresses, but sometimes it would be nice to see a tad bit more of them. Ah, well.

As long as we are back on this topic again, i been watching season 8, for the millionth time!! and for this series the door to her apartment building was green with no railings but in 'A simple whist of fate', i noticed that Abby on the steps outside with Joyce, the black railings are back?? Lol

I'm happy to read here that I'm not the only one with the apartment question. I've never understood the apartment thing either. I think Abby just has a magical apartment.

Yeah the apartment thing had always bugged me as well. I was just watching "if Not Now" and it is clear that they are on the first floor there, when we clearly know that Abby's apartment was never on the first floor. And let's not forget that Neela takes over Abby's apartment when Abby moves in the Luka (Season 12/13/14), and in those episodes, it is also upstairs!

Meaning: You first have to go 2 stairs down when you enter the apartment, and then you go upstairs again. That's why we see Abby coming down the stairs in season 8.
