Looks like we might not have seen the last of our Kelly!!! From TV Guide: The men of Rescue Me's 62 Truck will answer their last alarm ever in 2011, the year that marks the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks that inspired the show, the show's co-creator and executive producer exclusively tells TVGuide.com.
"Within the next couple of weeks, we're going to begin shooting the last 19 episodes, which will be the final two seasons of the show," Peter Tolan said.
Rescue Me's focus has always been on New York City firefighters and the post-9/11 trauma they face. That focus was renewed this season, as one fireman spoke out about the terrorist attacks being a government conspiracy, while another battled cancer believed to have been caused by exposure at the World Trade Center site.
While the final episodes will most likely be produced together, the airing of the episodes will be split to make the end of the show coincide with the year of the 9/11 anniversary. "I think they're stretching the airing of it out until the 10th anniversary," Tolan said. "So if you put 10 episodes on next year and nine the following year, you'll land there."
If you're bummed by the end date announcement, maybe this will cheer you up: Tolan also hinted that recent guest star Maura Tierney could turn up again in the show's final episodes.
"We loved working with her — that was kind of a big deal to get her," Tolan said. "She's got Parenthood, but I think we have a deal where we can use her for four episodes. And since we have that deal, we will take advantage of it."www.tvguide.com/News/Rescue-Me-End-1009292.aspx

That's GREAT news!
The article says "...Maura Tierney could show up in the shows final episodes" so if the final season isn't until 2011 it could be at least a year and a half until we see Kelly again. I think it's silly to have 9 and 10 episode seasons, it's hard to keep a fan base for a show that has such a short season and is spread out over that long. I wish they would just have a 19 episode season next year. But I'm still thrilled Kelly won't die on tuesday and may play a big role in the finale of the series. I really, really hope what Tolan says actually comes true!
I think Leary said in one article that this season's final few episodes set up the basis for how the series will end. As one poster on another board suggested, maybe Tommy has found the love of his life (Kelly)?

I'd be more than happy if Tommy ended up with Kelly at the end of the series. The way things have developed between them, they just fit well together. His relationships with Janet and Sheila are toxic in every way, for all of them, and there's never going to be a successful resolution to that triangle. So, I could see him, in the end, finally realizing that and finding his way back to Kelly - if she isn't with David Bowie by then.

Thanks for the great news about Maura's return, Tara. They also mentioned it on Imdb now: www.imdb.com/name/nm0005491/news

I knew I remembered Callie Thorne saying there would be a scene with Sheila, Janet and Kelly! This will be crazy LOL Rescue Me, season finale airs at 10 p.m. Tuesday on FX: It still feels like the world has slept on this ambitious blend of guy-focused comedy and in-your-face drama, which caps its most ambitious and longest 22-episode season with a crackling, landmark episode. Like most of the show's best moments, this episode's sizzling conclusion sneaks up on you, as the unthinking nihilism of Denis Leary's damaged firefighter, Tommy Gavin, catches up to him in a bruising, shocking way. Already, we've seen his inability to stop drinking plunge all his recovering alcoholic friends back into the sauce — a move that eventually led to the death of his Uncle Teddy's wife, killed while driving drunk after hanging at Gavin's bar. ER alum Maura Tierney continues an inspired run of guest stars (including Michael J. Fox), playing a cougar who initially fixated on Gavin's godson but winds up in his pocket. This week, Callie Thorne's deliciously unbalanced Sheila Keefe, as Gavin's girlfriend, confronts Tierney with Gavin's wife Janet (Andrea Roth) in classic Rescue Me style: absurd, degrading and sidesplitting at once. Can't reveal the episode's end here. But if you've ever found Gavin's bold, self-destructive impulses compelling, you can't miss seeing it all come together here.www.tampabay.com/features/media/true-blood-nurse-jackie-give-cable-channels-a-boost-this-summer/1031996

:(Seems the final episode will be fun. Good to hear Callie (who already said she has a girl-crush on Maura) will work with her again - ER connection I was just thinking, in the last season, there´s only 9 episodes, which means Maura´s 4 will be almost half the season. Including the finale....GOOD Just read this: Tolan went on to say that they have Maura Tierney contracted for four more episodes, so she'll likely be back during the final 19 as long as her health concerns or prior commitments to Parenthood don't get in the way. That's good news for Kelly fans.
Speaking of Kelly, the season five finale (which airs this Tuesday at 10PM ET on FX), features her heavily (I've already seen the ep - it's fantastic) and ends with what's arguably Rescue Me's best cliffhanger to date. luby.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=aiarchive&action=display&thread=4110&page=6#160079Can´t wait

GREAT news...yeah......but it's a year and a half away. Rats. Was hoping to see something tangible before then. It will be a while until her episodes air, but filming will be in the first half of 2010 which means that she expects to be well by then which is excellent news; there may be snippets from the shoot; and if she is back to work, other projects may be in the offing and we will get to see her on TV or on-stage before her RM episodes air. .
