Discussion thread for tonight's new episode in which we having Tommy "finding solace" in our beloved Kelly. Who knows how much Maura we'll get, but at least we know she'll be awesome, as always.

so....WHAT HAPPENED??? Anxiously awaiting a full report and clip..... I second that! Where's everybody? My DL is on 50%ETA 1:That was... well, weird. I was expenting something different, I don't know. I didn't watched the whole episode, just a few part and Maura's scenes. I have no idea of what are they planning to do with this character and I don't have anything interesting to say... ETA 2:Here's a full review of the episode is anyone is interested. www.avclub.com/articles/zippo,31873/

I enjoyed her scenes again this week, although she was more subdued then previous weeks. I think we're possibly going to be seeing another side to her character? But anybody else notice the look on Kelly's face when she said, 'you never really get over it, do you?', i kinda got the impression that maybe she had lost someone in the past? And, i also beginning to think that there are more personal possessions in that case, then weed!

Maura's scenes tickled me tonight. LOVED her impatience with Tommy's attempted explainations of his life ("chase....chase...."). Loved his confusion that she held him at bay regarding 'hanky panky.' Totally HATED seeing her use the bong at the very end. Totally. I hope they are leading up to something specific by having her character so addicted to cannibis. Speaking of which I am beginning to lose patience with the television fixation with this still illegal drug. It's even a part of 'Parenthood's' premiere episode. Sad.

hi
plotwise Season 2 was more interesting. I'm interested in seeing Maura's work now.
She's got to play a character that was new for her career and I think with a new attitude for her fans to experience, good or bad reactions, it is personal... I got the impression that the character's bio was very similar to hers... in another interview MT says "I feel like everything I do is me to a certain extent," [By Judy Abel, Globe Correspondent | February 21, 2004], so I was a bit shocked to see her doing drugs and I think that's what they wanted to accomplish at the end, with all her scenes. Hope there's more to come. Plus, drugs, lots of people do it, and in a story, I couldn't care less, I care to see the actress who is typecasted always as the "good girl" do it, at the end, I am glad she did it.

Thanks to Martine, as always, for doing the clips for us! The first thing I do on Wednesday mornings is get the link to her clip from the night before and post it on my Facebook and Twitter pages - hopefully forcing all my friends to watch it and admire the brilliance that is Maura LOL Just watching it live last night, I thought I didn't like the Kelly stuff in this episode as much as last week's. Then I watched it a couple more times and actually liked it more. As Christabelle mentioned, we got a more subdued Kelly this week. Still witty, still funny, still feisty, but dialed down a few notches from the last time we saw her. And she became even more subdued after Tommy mentioned his dead son. She was already setting out the terms of their 'relationship' and then he told her about Connor and she seemed to switch gears and was ready for him to leave. It was great to watch, because Maura's so good at deep, subtle stuff like that. A friend of mine on another board speculated last week that Kelly might have lost a child - and that her 'yes' as to whether or not she had a kid inside the burning building might have actually been an honest answer. Maybe she has the child's ashes or a lock of hair or other mementos in the box. I guess we'll find out next week. But the sadness on her face at the end? There has to be much more than a bong and some Bowie albums in there. And in terms of Tommy, I love that she was critical of the two things he believes most strongly about himself: that he's irresistable to women and a great firefighter. She criticized his kissing *and* criticized him for not saving her stuff in the fire LOL Even though he was trying to get into her pants and was lying about being out with Janet, I still think what he said about enjoying his conversations with her was true. He's different with her than he is with Sheila and Janet. Likeable even. I like Leary, but he can be really over the top sometimes. With Maura, he has a whole different vibe that I really enjoy. As for the bong - I totally could have done without that just because it was so weird to see Maura doing it. But it fits what we know about Kelly so far and I think (hope) next week will go a long way towards explaining why it's such a big part of her and exactly what she's trying to escape from by using it. Oh, and the mammogram thing? I admit, that took me out of the episode for just a second. I was glad they cut away to Franco for a minute so I could forget about that and get back to focusing on the show. And finally on a shallow note, Maura looked absolutely gorgeous in that t-shirt and jeans. And she looks beautiful in the previews for next week, too!

I agree with everything you said Taras. This was my favorite of Maura's Rescue Me episodes. Her acting style is just so natural, she is aggressive in a very charming way, funny, and able to show deep emotion with subtle movements and facial expressions. She is so good that while she is doing great work, she doesn't overshadow the other actors and actually makes them look better.
The mammogram mention was uncomfortable to hear. It reminds me of when she was scripted for a broken left wrist on ER, then broke it in real life a few months later. Her Rescue Me script had her mentioning a mammogram, and months later she is diagnosed with breast cancer. That's kind of creepy.
I love this character and how it is so different than her recent characters. I too think she has a little bit of Kelly in her. We know she uses strong language, drinks, smokes, and likes rock n roll music. The bong hit didn't bother me, it IS something she's never played before, and whether it was just good acting or not, she handled it like she knew what she was doing.
Her clothes were awesome in both this episode and next week's preview, and she looked really, really hot.
Now, what's in the box?

RE: What's in the box??
I was reading a reviewer's blog somewhere which pointed out the lighter that Sheila was using (a zippo) being connected to Jimmy's affair and being the same type that Kelly used to light her bong in the end. Anyone willing to speculate that Kelly may have been his lover and has Jimmy related mementos in the box???

Anyone else notice she has 2 of these boxes? In the scene with Tommy, you can see there is a little version of the box on the shelve against the wall. This is by the way the box that Tara noticed in the pic that was posted by Abby_road luby.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=homa&action=display&thread=2402&page=64 . But later, she gets the other bigger box out of her kitchen stove !

Anyone willing to speculate that Kelly may have been his lover and has Jimmy related mementos in the box??? I read that review too and I thought their Jimmy/Kelly speculation totally came out of left field (I think someone in the comments section pointed out that the lighter Kelly used was different than the one Sheila had, but I didn't notice) but then I thought maybe it could actually be possible. Could be why Kelly's drawn to firemen. Could be why she seemed familiar enough with the firehouse to just walk into the kitchen (though hard to believe none of the guys had ever seen her if she'd been there before w/Jimmy). And Jimmy could be who she lost, because I think she started to say, "It's something you never get over..." and then switched to, "I guess you never really get over something like that, do you?" Plus, haven't Callie Thorne and Andrea Roth both alluded to some crazy scene they got to do with Maura? That could be strictly Tommy related, but if Sheila found out that Kelly slept with Jimmy, obviously she'd go nuts and probably try to strangle Kelly LOL But then I think about Maura saying Kelly had a dark, sad past, which makes me lean more towards a dead kid than a dead lover. Of course, my speculation is almost always universally wrong, LOL. And Martine, as soon as she pulled the real box out of the oven, I thought to myself that I should have known the box against the wall was too small to be the right one LOL
