I don't really want a S15 without Luby, even if Maura was in it. I love Abby but it's Luby that keeps me watching ER and I'm desperate for a happy(ish at least) ending. I suppose they could do a Doug/Carol and have Abby looking after Joe alone for S15 then Luka returning in one of the last episodes and them going off into the sunset together... but that'd seem a bit repetative and unrealistic (also, I'd hate to see what would happen to Abby if she had to be without Luka for even longer, and if they broke up I don't think its realistic that Luka would leave Joe - Doug was that kind of character, Luka isn't).

I found this. Don't know how much truth there is to it.
'ER' May Stay Open a While Exec producer Wells game for one more season November 6, 2007
Mekhi Phifer and Scott Grimes of 'ER'The 14th season of "ER" may not be its last.
NBC's long-running medical drama, which will air its 300th episode in a few weeks, was believed to be on its last legs. Executive producer John Wells, however, says the show may still have life in it.
Wells, who's been with the show from its beginnings in 1994 and is directing the 300th episode, tells Variety that he'll start talking with the network soon about a possible 15th year for the show. "ER" is currently the second longest-running drama on television, trailing only its NBC brethren "Law & Order."
Though the series is nowhere near the ratings juggernaut it once was, it still draws OK numbers for NBC. So far this season, it's averaging 9.9 million viewers per week and a respectable 4.1 rating in the advertisers' preferred demographic of adults 18-49. The latter mark is good enough to win its timeslot over CBS' "Without a Trace," which has a sizable advantage in total viewers.
As for the immediate future, "ER" is in the same boat as most other scripted series: The writers' strike will cause production to go idle in the near future. Wells was one of dozens of writer-producers who signed an ad in Tuesday's trade papers pledging not to work on their shows until writers reach an agreement with the media companies that employ them

My question is (and this may have already been discussed somewhere), with the writers strike they are obviously not going to get to finish the season the way they wanted, I have a feeling the Luby storyline will go unfinished because of it.
Therefore, I do think there should be Season 15, and maybe Maura and Goran can come back for a few episodes (not the whole season) just to finally get their happy ending.

nothing has been said that season 14 is the last. ER's contract says they get to have 22 episodes at least in a season. so, there we should expect at least 10 more episodes. But, I believe there will be a season 15

but there wont be a season 15.14 is the last. And who/what is your source if i may ask?! Cause last time i checked it was still unclear but it looked like we may be getting a season 15!! I mean you are coming here and very sure about what you are saying, but its unclear for all, i bet its also unclear for zabel and wells at the moment because of the strike and all the actors who are quitting the show, but wells or zabel said as long as the ratings are good they are gonna continue and that they want another season !!

i still don't know whether or not there will be a 15th season. The writers strike has come on, so i think that they may just wrap things up in like continuing the 14th season when the strikes over, but thats just my point of view..but what do i know...

It was the last episode they had written and ready to shoot.
My sense is that it's all about timing; if the strike goes on too long then the pattern of shooting 22 episode series ending in May will be disrupted, out of synch with sweeps and they may think it better to abandon S14 altogether, picking up the storylines in a possibly shorter S15.
I think we'll know relatively soon whether the writers have struck a deal they're happy with, and whether the wheels can be set back in motion to round off S14. It's not just the writers; actors, anticipating a May end to shooting, may have made plans too.
