I think what bummed me out the most, though, is that the stuff they keep saying the show *won't* be about - specifically the development of the characters and their personal lives - was the stuff that really worked. The relationships between Kathryn/Edge, Jimmy/Alejo, etc. was the best part of the show for me. The acting and the writing were so much richer in those scenes than in the courtroom scenes. I hope they can see that and make some big changes in the coming episodes. Am only half way through the episode but so far so good. This show has potential, but i agree with Tara, the character relationships really work well and are quite funny too in parts. Personally, am never really interested in the legal stuff, and i too, think the shows could benefit from showing more of this side. If they manage to find the perfect balance between the legal side and character relationships, it could be a winner!! Did anyone one notice, the look in Katies eyes, in the opening scene, when she gave that guy a kiss. It reminded me so much of the why she would look into Luka's eyes in ER! edit: Just read this review of the show, on TV.com, about Maura's hair and was ready to give the person a piece of my mind, but someone beat me too it! www.tv.com/the-whole-truth/show/78825/disapointed/topic/97494-2314482/msgs.html?tag=fresh_forums;num_posts;0

1 more thing I was thinking about: I know they want to let the audience know TWT at the end of each episode but I thought it was a bit stupid. I mean, why would the father hide that cross, that even still had blood on it, somewhere in his house. If I were him I would have thrown it in a river or something.

Okay so I watched it and had to catch up on all your opinions I loooooooooved the scene with sweeping chad out of the office, it was hilarious, the movement of her hands! But I agree... If Maura wasn't in the show I wouldn't watch it I think. I was not sucked into the story. Because it went so fast, it was too superficial. The relationships, the scenes not in courtroom, were the best for me. And ... I almost don't dare to say from what I've just read here, but I think that Rob has put down his character very well! That's the character Jimmy Brogan; over-screaming, act tough, let others think he's the best. I think he has put down nicely! And I loved that scene at the end when Kathy comes into the bar, where he sees she'd been crying, right? I loved that scene too! About the ratings and maybe an early end to the show and Maura getting into a new project etc etc... I don't know if she would do that, she said in an interview she wasn't planning to do another tv show. I don't believe she would sit still, but I also think that -if this comes to an early end- we don't see her back every week on our tv screens! I'll give the show a shot, ofcourse I will be watchin because of Maura, but I liked The Event more, it was more exciting. And is there someone who can pleaaaaase make a gif of the 'sweeping-Maura' cache2.hyves-static.net/images/smilies/default/smiley_worship.gif for me???!!! teeheeee I love it so much ;D And for last: OMFLord she was so hot at the shooting range in her tanktop and that gun!!! I would love to see her chasing someone (And hope not she's getting on with Chad, he's ugly, he's a babyface and he's dumb, nothing for Kathryn OR Maura)

But that's the point, if she wasn't planning to do another tv shoe after ER, she wouldn't have signed for Parenthood either. I believe (me, my opinion), if it ends early, we'll see Maura again on tv. This is what she loves to do. She doesn't stop working, she never stoped to work!!
Maybe her line "I wasn't planning to do another tv show", was referring in don't do another tv show so fast after her illness.
But i'm feeling that eveything gonna be ok, and maybe ABC changes it, like did with Private Practice that debut in the same day and hour and ABC changed to thurdays. We have to wait and see what gonna happen. But until then, i'll be enjoy our girl rocking!!!

I'm writing this without reading the previous pages, so I'm sorry if I'll mention some things which are already said. I'll get to read them later... well, where to start... at first, I'm gonna have to "update" my English and get used to this legal language, I had some problems with getting into the story in the beginning (No more IV's, MVA's, GSW's... ;D) There were many things I liked, but also many things I didn't. I'm sorry to say it, but if there wasn't Maura in it, I probably wouldn't watch other episodes.. - I totally didn't like Rob Morrow's exegarated acting.. I wouldn't mind it if he didn't do it during the whole episode... - I was kind of confused by telling the story in their two points of view in the first half (e.g. when Morrow called Maura about the video they found - we saw it twice, once from his POV and once from hers..) - I find the end with the crucifix ridiculous, too - I liked the judge this role fits him, hope we'll see John Aylward again - nice teasing between Maura and Rob Whatever, I'm going to rewatch it again and focus on details now

The ratings were a little bit of a surprise, but it is in a tough time slot. But networks are slower to cancel shows now with all the other ways people watch TV now, look at me, I recorded to watch later, I did not watch it "live". I hope it is at least given enough episodes for a DVD release. I doubt it will be the first show cancelled, we'll see the ratings next week.

You know, I'm not sure where to vent about this but I think my friends here will understand. I've had a lovely glass of red wine from France and I'm not going to hold back about the people criticizing Maura's hair. It annoys me to no end that it's so easy for people who don't know a thing about her (or chemo) to publicly criticize her in forums (twitter, internet comments) that are read by millions of people.
Here's the deal: Maura is at a VERY awkward time with regard to her hair, and I can say that based on watching my sister's struggles with going from bald to a full head of curlier, darker hair after her chemo. There is a time (and Maura's in it) where your hair is short and growing longer, but it's growing at different lengths, in different layers. So you have to make the decision to keep it short, and keep cutting it, or let it grow, and when it's growing it looks lousy because the in between long and short stage provides few attractive styles. Not to mention it grows back thicker, darker, and curlier than it was before the chemo. There are even areas of the head where sometimes hair doesn't grow back at all, my sister has a spot near her neck where her hair never grew back, but you can't tell now because the hair around it covers it. It is very awkward, and I wish people could understand that instead of making such insensitive comments.
I can deal with criticism of her new show because for the most part I agree with that, but when they start going after her hairstyle I've reached my limit of tolerance for ignorance. Thanks for letting me vent!

Those same people who hae made comments about her hair are the same people who would give her crap if she wore a wig until her hair grew out to where she wanted. They are people you can't win with and they are obviously people who have never had someone close to them go through chemo. Others may be ignorant to what Maura has gone through, some people don't follow celebrity news a close as others, I just hope when they find out the reason of the short hair they feel really small.

So..I've read all your comments and its making me think I should go back and watch my tape again! I really did enjoy it...mostly because of Maura. My fav line of the whole show was her saying "Don't call me ma'am!" basically because I'm called ma'am all day at work and I'm soooo tired of it! I don't really understand legal stuff so that part was a bit confusing but....heck that happens when I watch SVU
PS: My mom was watching SVU and kept coming in during commericals but TWT was also on commercials at the same time....she said she'll watch th tape with me sometime but the parts she saw, she enjoyed.

Killers have been known to keep 'souvenirs' of their deeds. I imagine that was the point. And as much as I have been waiting to see this show, I started watching SUV before and it was VERY. HARD. for me to not be able to see the end of their 2 hour premiere. I thought it was crappy of them to do it....especially since what I was able to surmise from switching back and forth, it didn't carry through with the story from the first hour so much. I have a feeling that the ratings will be very different next week. People are going to tune in just to see WHY the ratings were so bad this week. LOL And I really think if the show IS cancelled this quickly, it would be a while before Maura does another series. They have hung so much of this one on her........

They usually do feel very small. Although when I see these comments on Twitter or FB I usually reply to them very politely and tell them what happened to Maura. Us Maura-fans, we know a lot about Maura, maybe even more than herself but we have to remember not everyone is a Maura-fan. But I can imagine that these comments are very painful, especially when you or your family or friends have been confronted with cancer.

In Brazil, this series didn't started yet, but I loved the first episode...
I loved the way it showed the both sides of the case, the prosecution and the defence... I don't much of American laws, but if it is like here, the the judge gave the order to the prosecution to deliver it to the defence and they did, so I don't agree with elocidander... I'm no lawyer but I love to see movies and series about courts and all...
Besides that.. it was good to see Maura back on tv and it was good to see her playing such a strong character... loved how Peale and Brogan "poke" each other..

I wrote a review for TV.com as 'soccermom'......in case anyone wants to read it and 'thumbs up' or 'thumbs down' it. Might help the show if there is more traffic on sites like that.

Just noticed watching the re-run tonight that Kathryn's boyfriend is named Kevin, I had a Moretti flashback. Yuck! I did! I saw that look and I thought I've seen THAT look before. One thing with Maura on the show, she seems to have given Kathryn a heart, if Richardson was still in the role she would be a total ice queen.
