Don't know if she is afraid per se. By all accounts she was the friendliest of the cast members of 'Some Girls' this past summer and regularly spent time with fans at the stage door. I have read that she wants her career to be about the 'acting' - which she shines at - but wonder if her career can be sustained by not being a part of things like awards events and publicity drives. I have read that she is intensely private and would imagine that media attention focused on her is excruciating....especially since there is high interest in the end of her marriage. Kind of sad because it was fun seeing the pics and reading about her trip to Croatia this summer. THAT's the Maura I would like to see One that enjoys her celebrity status.. Yeah, when I met her this summer, you could tell that she was kind of overwhelmed by the crowd of fans bombarding her. She actually walked to the theatre from around the corner and then left with her dad after. You could tell that she was just trying to be as "normal" as possible. She was friendly from the very brief conversation that I had with her though.

i met her as well at "some girls," and i can't get over how down-to-earth and sweet she was. she must have been there signing autographs and taking pictures for an hour. i was so overwhelmed to see her that i could barely speak, but she was kind enough to take a second pic with me after the first didn't come out on my digital camera. unfortunately, my friend's camera didn't work either, and now i am pictureless. anyway, she was so friendly and made sure everyone got a moment. my friend said "i LOVE er" and she just replied "oh, thank you!" i've never hyperventilated so much, or i would've spoken...but instead i had a panic attack and went back to our apartment and stared at the wall for two hours. i know, i have some issues...

Hee...hee.....we have something in common, Maggie. I won a radio contest to meet my teen heart throb - who shall remain nameless because it would severely 'date' me. He performed in concert and then 6 of us contest winners got to spend some time with him at a hotel reception. He went around the room signing autographs and when he got to me he said 'Hi'. I melted and mumbled 'thank you....' I was MORTIFIED.

That's okay...I was somewhat speechless when Maura was in front of me also. I asked her to sign my book and of course, my sharpie pen wouldn't work. So Maura is like "Uh, this marker isn't really working." And me being that idiot that I am..I say.. "It has another end!" Because it was a two ended sharpie pen. Maura laughed and was like "Oh really? That's neat, but I got it." And gave it back to me. I also told her that I gave the security man a letter for her...
