:(Quick question, why do you in america get repeats during a new season run of ER? Always bugged me. Here, in England they show a full season.

The television season in the USA is from late September to Mid-May, about 35 weeks. However, TV episodes take weeks to make from the first writing of the script to the final editing. Therefore, they can't produce that many episodes for all 35 weeks leading to about 22-24 new ones and 11-13 repeats.
However, there are shows like "24" which don't start until January and run new episodes every week. With a show like that, it would be really hard to rerun since the style of the show doesn't fit the typical TV schedule. This season, "Lost" is doing only new episodes but is splitting it up into a string of 6 and a string of 17 eps. Kind of what ER was going to do this year. Hope this answered your question.

I got this from TVGuide Online.
In related news, NBC has ordered an extra, 25th episode of ER for this season.
WOOOOOT!!! Instead of the regular 22, we get three extra episodes. I'm so excited. Lost always has like 24 episodes and it makes the seasons better. 3 less reruns!!
When it was released that there wouldn't be a hiatus, they said it was possible for 24, or 25 episodes. But it looks like they had already ordered for episodes 23 and 24 sometime between then and now.
