IMDB also says that Shiri Appleby was in the pilot episode but sadly it doesn't look like she's the same character.

From Stormwatcher77 at ER Exchange:
This caught my eye:
ER executive producer David Zabel told The Hollywood Reporter that the upcoming series will follow the four new faces as well as revisit the show's 14-year history. (snip)
"So while we will be reconnecting with the history of ER, as well as telling the ongoing stories of our current regulars, we also will track the development of these new young doctors."
Then there is the discouraging news that the SAG has sent a proposed contract out for ratification, it seems is calling for a strike. The results are to be announced July 7th. The article talks about how the various studios have planned for this, trying to get more episodes done before the potential strike:
Other shows that never really shut down or didn't power down cameras for long include "House," "ER," "Brothers & Sisters," And John Wells has a new pilot order from NBC for a cop show, to be directed by Christopher Chulak and written by Ann Biderman.

From Cinefaythe at ER Exchange:
A little update for those of us wondering if there will be any actors around at all to finish this series (just kidding--sort of):
Members of AFTRA, the smaller television and radio performers union, have voted to accept the deal offered by the AMPTP. But the much larger union, SAG, covering television and film actors, still has no contract. SAG is not talking about striking yet, but reports make it sound as if the union clearly thinks it has the clout to get a better deal than AFTRA got. However, with AFTRA now joining the Writers Guild and Directors Guild in signing new contracts, it sort of takes the teeth out of SAG's hard-line approach, according to reports. SAG will give its verdict on AMPTP's latest offer in a meeting tomorrow.

From Cinefaythe at TEex (and comfirmed at C&P)
According to a post by whispers at Coffee & Pie, NBC has begun to air a promo for the upcoming season. It sounds as if the promo shows Carter himself in a shot that may be from the season 11 finale.

Well, Carter interests me a wee tiny little bit as Wells is hoping to bring the entire series full circle by the end of season 15. It began with Carter's story and will likely end with Carter's story. I am starting to think I may hang around after Maura T leaves....but then on most days, I think not.

I've been watching season 9 lately, so hearing of Carter's return actually does interest me. Hopefully he makes it in before Abby checks out...I'd love to see the look on his face when he sees Abby with little Joe hahaha

I'd love that too. That he gets the chance to meet Abby again, especially Luka, since they were so close at some point...but knowing TPTB they will probably show him alone...maybe sorrounded by the new "Hannah Montana staff era"

I'd like to see this promo...and I don't mind a Carter return. He will just add to the plot. And I hope, if he is coming back, that he is back for Pratt's funeral.

Thank yo for the link.. the promo is only showing old clips telling us that ER is at it's final season... Thats really sad when you come to it... no more ER... I know it would lose its spirit if it kept going on and on... but imagine that.. no more... Ive watched it since 1995 ER will Rest In Peace in Television Heaven in May 2009

I saw the promo last night during The Baby Borrowers, and it seriously made me tear up...I never thought about the time when it would end. Obviously, I knew it would come to an end eventually, I just couldn't imagine it...but now here we are. It's really sad...ER has been a part of my Thursday nights for 9 years. Thank God for DVD's ETA: I especially LOVE the part of the promo that says "Every story has a grand finale" and it's showing luby!!! I really hope they don't disappoint us!

If its one thing that i've learnt in all my 14 years of watching ER, never trust the promo!! Am concerned that the clip they showed between Luka and Abby of the hug in 'Coming Home' is the front of Abby and the back of Luka. I hope that doesn't mean Luka want appear again.

I thought the promo was nice...it was a nice memorial to the show, even if it was 30 seconds. Loved the addition of the text to the screen and then the voices of the characters...really quite good. I am looking forward to the new promos.
Also, as we are all being nostalgic I may as well join in. Whilst watching the promo, I thought about the promo we got for Season 13 and it showed the clips of Abby being wheeled out of the room and clutching her stomach in pain. I don't know, I just thought of that....and how long ago it feels. Anyways.......:=]
