I also heard that Julianne Moore passed on it. I know we're biased, but Maura really would be perfect for it. She's the right age (I read that Helen Mirren was 46 when she originated the role), she has the perfect world-weary detective look (obviously I mean that in a good way LOL), her acting is flawless and limitless, she's a known commodity for NBC and a familiar face to its audience - the pros are endless.
The only con I can think of is that she might not feel up to full-time work so soon, especially a show that she'd headline and have to get out and do all the press for.

If Julianne Moore has passed, then the best available option is Maura. I honestly can't say I have seen the work of the other women mention (except for Julianne), but I know Miranda Otto is in those fantasy type movies like Narnia. I was reading about the British verson of Prime Suspect today, and the way the seasons were put together is that there would be one mystery to solve throughout the entire season. I don't know if that is how NBC would run the show, or if it would be self contained episodes.

The link below is from an article last fall about casting for Prime Suspect. While I would be totally thrilled if Maura got this part, I would also be worried about the difficulty of following in Helen Mirren's footsteps. Based on the comments it seems most don't think this should be remade, primarily because it would be impossible to follow Helen's brilliance in the role. Most of the comments indicate that only an actress of the stature of Meryl Streep or Glenn Close could pull it off. But we (and a few astute posters in the comments) know better. Maura could rock this role. If Maura gets/takes the role, we need to be prepared for a lot of criticism and skepticism directed toward her. ausiellofiles.ew.com/2009/11/29/us-prime-suspect-connie-britton-casting

From Spoiler TV The Big Tease - 9th Feb Posted by b3rt4 at Tuesday, February 09, 2010 ... Have you heard the rumor about Maura Tierney and the ‘Prime Suspect’ pilot? That would rock. – tarasproles via Twitter I agree, Tierney would serve nicely as the star of the NBC’s adaptation of the Helen Mirren-fronted BBC crime drama. And as of Monday night, she was still in the running. Could it be that Julianne Moore’s dreadful ‘30 Rock’ Boston accent scared off the jury? ... www.spoilertv.com/2010/02/big-tease-9th-feb.html#disqus_thread

I kinda, sorta know that guy (we have a mutual friend) and that's the second time I've asked him a question on Twitter, thinking it was just between he and I, and it has wound up in his online column LOL. But I'm glad he answered it!
And if she's "in the running" that makes it sound to me like *she* has interest. Anybody else read it that way?

I seriously hope that she gets this role, it sounds great for her. I hope someone asks her about it after the play one night (if not, I will!)

I've seen a lot of the British version of Prime Suspect, and while it will obviously be changed for American audiences, I think it could be an interesting role for Maura if all these rumours come to fruition. Aside from how serious it is in content, she has spent many years in ensemble shows (e.g. NewsRadio and ER) and it would be cool to see how she handles being the lead.
Agreed. There is that instant bias with all re-makes, and no matter how good Maura is, the writing has to be great in order for the show to work.
Just realised it's been a week and a half since this thread was last posted in. I take it there has been no more news/rumours then?

No nothing new. Which is good because I think it gives her time to finish "north atlantic"....

Personally, I don't think she would take on a project where she is the established 'lead.' That's not what she has been all about - ever - in her career choices.

I wonder if we haven't heard anything because contract details are being hammered out, or if Connie Britton is being considered for the role, that maybe the producers are waiting to see if FNL will be cancelled. I should email NBC asking them to keep FNL.

I should email NBC asking them to keep FNL. I had no idea who Connie Britton is. Thanks to imdb I have a face to her name. According to news FNL is over and after june they are all free to get other things.... See, that´s how Maura goes, silently. We usually only hear things after it is a sure thing. No matter what she gets, we will only know her next thing when she gets the part.

Ausiello is a MAJOR Connie Britton fan so I'd think we would have heard by now if she was in preliminary talks or any kind of talks to take on the role.

FNL actually needs to be cancelled first, I have not heard if it is offical yet. The press is saying that it looks to be cancelled, but they said "NewRadio" would be cancelled every year and got renewed.
I think Connie would be a great supporting player in Prime Suspect, I don't know if she could be the lead, but Maura can handle it. It would be fun to see Connie and Maura work together.
