Hi, I'm soo glad u like my story I'm updating a lot today, and probably tomorrow since I'm working this weekend. Enjoy! ***
Abby broke the quiet silence and looked up at the handsome boy.
"Tell me about your family."
“Well, it’s just me, my two younger brothers Ivica and Borna, my dad Joseph and my mother Vera. We are a pretty ordinary Croatian family”, Luka said.
“Oh, well that’s good! Your brothers has some odd names”, Abby said while smiling shyly.
“They are not odd in Croatia though, maybe Borna that’s not a very common name. Borna means something like
being a fighter, in Croatian”, Luka said squeezing the girl’s hand a bit.
“Ooh has it some significance?”
“Well... when my mother gave birth to Borna they discovered he had MS, he's like a normal kid, but sometimes he’s in a lot of pain. Both mom and dad sees him as a real fighter.”
“That’s sad, can’t the doctors fix him?” Abby asked a little unsure what MS was.
“No, there is nothing they can do, but there are medicine that can slow down the process…” Luka tensed up and dropped Abby’s hand.
“What process”?
“Of dying” Luka said very quiet and Abby had to concentrate to be able to hear what he said. Abby felt chills down her spine; here they went from one touchy subject to another.
“I’m sorry, that’s so sad” Abby whispered. First she hesitated but her body had a mind of it’s own and soon her thin arms were wrapped around his much bigger body and she gave the boy a warm hug. She felt like an electric shock went trough her body and warmth embraced her, something she’d never felt before. It both scared her, and thrilled her at the same time.
“It’s okay. It’s something my family and I have come to terms with. I’ve made a promise to myself, to succeed, with what today’s doctors haven’t been able to. I want to find a cure.” Luka answered as he hugged the petite girl even tighter. God she smelled like strawberry, he buried his nose in her hair and took a deep breathe. What an angel he thought.
Abby released the boy and meet his eyes.
“We aren’t like ordinary strangers are we.”
As the young girl ended the warm hug and Luka felt his body go colder. “How do you mean?” he asked.
"Like two were strangers just meeting." Abby continued.
"Right," Luka agreed. "Two strangers who are just making small talk."
Abby smiled. "Did you notice we haven't done that?"
"Yeah," Luka realized, returning her sunny gaze. "I guess we kind of skipped over the small talk, didn't we?"
Abby blushed hotly, but was pleased at his acknowledgment. So she wasn't the only one who noticed. Luka sighed, as he picked up some sand in his fingers. He watched it trickle down back onto the rocks.
“Not that I don’t mind this conversation, it’s been great, but maybe we should make this like it should be, don’t you think?”
Abby just smiled.
“Like starting with our names,” Luka continued, smiling back.
Abby chuckled slightly “Okay, I go first.” Abby stopped smiling and looked at the boy seriously.
“Hi”
“Hi” Luka answered.
“My name’s Abby”
“I’m Luka”
They both smiled.
