From Cinefaythe at The ER Exchange
Banfield and her husband, Russell, discuss the impending visit by his parents. Banfield is resistant and he is at wits end trying to find a way to be supportive. In a further episode, we learn the Banfields lost a young son.
Sam's apartment is under repairs because the pipes burst but is hesitant when Gates makes an offer to stay at his place. Gates and Sam are tense all day, but later, Alex makes it all good again.
Chaz, Pratt's half-brother, is a med student and the others think Morris is giving Chaz special attention. Chaz notes that he had dinner with Betina and together they created an after-school program in Pratt's name. Chaz makes a number of mistakes and Morris gives him encouragement.
Derrick is a boxer who went down in the 5th round. Louie, his father, asks Morris to convince Derrick to give up fighting since he's only doing it to earn enough for his father's surgery. At first Morris declines, but Derrick's medical problems go from minor to worse and the final diagnosis means no more fighting.
Max, a homeless man who collapsed in the bay, is a paratrooper, just like Gates who is treating him. Max doesn't remember his last name and wants to leave, but Gates wants him to stay for tests. Max' story continues to another episode where Gates discovers why Max was given a dishonorable discharge from the army.
Neela is having a disagreement with Banfield and Dubenko has advised her to solve the problem herself. Meanwhile, Brenner has two Australian friends in for a rugby game. They and Neela all end up at Ikes. Brenner apologizes for barging in last week on her and Ray, but Neela insists Ray is just an old friend. The group gets drunk and Neela wins at darts.
