If maura hasnt renewed her contract either then why is there so much gossip about goran leaving and nothing about her?

Because she didn't give an earlier interview saying that she was considering leaving. If she said she was thinking about it, it'd be too obvious!

I just want to say that whatever Goran decides to do he will have his own reasons, and if one of those reasons is being able to spend more time at home in Croatia, work there and do theatre there it really isn't for anyone here (or anywhere else) to deride that decision as "stupid". Why is committing to TV in his homeland so ridiculous? He doesn't owe us anything, he's put n 8 years on a show which hasn't always used him to good advantage. If he's had enough of doing the show and isn't able to pursue other work because of it he'd be "stupid" to hang around.
Secondly I wouldn't say that all of his film work has been poor; "The Deep End" and "Dr Sleep" were both good (IMO), and "Spartacus passed muster; and, to counter the argument that anything on Croatian TV must necessarily be a poor relation to ER or the Great God Network TV I give you "The Long Dark Night", presented on Croatian television in 15 parts before being released in cinemas and attracting a slew of awards.
There's more to life, and to acting than America; perhaps Goran feels the same way.

i]Goran himself has already said they're filming in Croatia in May - Therefore, how can he be leaving at the end of season 13??[/i] This is EXACTLY what I have been trying to get across on some of the other boards! After reading this thread, I'm glad to see that there are people who think as I do.

Aww that's a bit of a bummer if it's true. I think it would be ok for him to go if Maura left with him. I'd hate to see Abby and Luka broken up.

Actually, for a workaholic like Maura, ER is the epitome of a great life. The money she makes creates a financial situation that makes it easy for her to pursue indie film roles and theater....which she apparently enjoys. Those films are so low budget and 'quick shoots' that it probably fits into her ER shooting schedule. Goran is in a different kind of place in his career. He doesn't have the same kind of reputation that she does in the American film realm and roles are probably much more competitive for him. His reputation in Croatia is probably very much like Maura's is here. He is married and wants a family...surrounded by extended family...and that is available for him only in Croatia. I could see why he would want to leave the show. Money really isn't everything. (Uh huh....and I am off to buy my $355 mil lottery tickets! Heh...told my hubby that if we win I was going to buy the production rights to ER and write the dang show the way I want it to be!)

Did she say that ? i don't think so .. John Wells said in TVGuide that the many of the actors' contracts expire in this season .. and he said that there will be a meeting this spring to discuss this . so .. we have to wait !

I heard her say her contract expired this year! And also, her contract doesn't need to expire for her to leave the show, if the writers want Abby to go (God knows where) with Luka, they can!! And I honestly believe even if Maura stays and Goran leaves - Lubby is not coming to an end. But if they want to write off Abby they can!! (Don't think it'll happen though). Since the rumors started that Goran wanted to leave I have been for some reason hitting on the same key - I think they will write him working at Carter's center. makes sense, a man who has been wanting a child for a long time, and now has it, wants to spend time with his son and if he quits ER and work in the clinic he'll have more free time!

But if she is contracted for another year and they decide to write her off, they still have to pay her for the length of her contract. Why pay her for another year and NOT use her? Doesn't make sense.

larue, to quote Judge Judy, "when it doesn't make sense, it's not true."
I posted this on another board but it bears repeating.
The reason that I'm not taking stock in any of this is because of Noah Wyle. Yes, I said Noah Wyle. The media had that guy leaving ER a couple of years before he actually left. If I remember correctly, it was almost carved in stone that he was leaving and then at the last minute...POOF...he signed his contract for another year. It was almost laughable.
The reports that we are seeing now about GV's departure all seem to stem from Ausiello's revelation last week and I don't believe he knows anymore then we do. We have to remember that this is contract time and people are going to circulate misinformation just to get a proper answer.
I do believe that if Goran where leaving it would have been reported on more believeable news sites such as Entertainment Tonight and E!. Plus he would not have said "I"ll be around" when questioned on the Today Show about leaving.
Everyone might be in a tizzy for nothing.

Even with all this debating about whether it's true or not, part of me is really believing it. To be honest, I am not overly bothered if he leaves as long as Maura doesn't leave unless she has to. Yes, I know I said it'd be better if they both left to keep Abby and Luka together but, and I said but, if Goran wants to leave then I am sure they could find a way for their relationship to stay working, for a small length of time.

Naw...our debate about Goran leaving the show has been in place long before Ausiello's 'announcement'. Goran has often said that eight years was a long time to be in one acting job....that he wants a family but does not want to raise it here in America....wants to be closer to extended family etc. etc. I don't think he thought he would be 'the heart and soul of the show' with Maura at this point however. It's going to be interesting to see how all of this plays out.
