During the past seasons, I used to post every week and we had so much fun and pleasure sharing our feelings.
Haven't posted since ABBY left, but this episode was just wonderful. But I have just watched and rewatched OLD TIMES and it's terrific.Good writing, Wells, I liked how the old and new characters were interwoven.
DOUG and CAROL.So well done. Both are all professional at the beginning. ( and on a shallow note,Julianna Margulies hasn't aged at all
).
I love she kept her name of HATHAWAY, ( hello LOCKHART !
) and as soon as I saw DOUG, ( my first ER love as zillions of watchers), it was so natural to see them together.
But loved all the details which prove that their marriage is strong ( DOUG's wedding band made me smile like a loon ), and their obvious chemistry is still here.
Nice to hear that the twins hate Thursdays because there are spelling tests at school.
And at the end in bed when they curled up, I started hearing THEIR THEME and a huge wave of nostalgia hit me...
It was so well done.
So normal that none of the docs knew that CARTER who was at NORTHWESTERN was the kidney receiver. Thousands of people are on waiting lists and there is a confidentiality ( I suppose ) between the family of donors and the sick people who get the organ.
I have always enjoyed Susan Sarandon's acting skills even though her role was quite conventional....We have seen millions of situations like that in ER, but she managed to make it quite emotional. SS can tell the phone book, she would be sensational.
CARTER and BENTON.THE VERY VERY BEST.And I am NOT a fan of John Truman Carter EXCEPT in the 3 first seasons because they used to work together a lot.
Season 4 and 5, they grew apart...........Carter being in the ER while BENTON was in the OR.
And season 6 with " ALL IN THE FAMILY" showed how BENTON was ready to do anything to help CARTER....operating on him, telling him the truth about LUCY's death, letting im cry on his shoulder and going with him to ATLANTA to the rehab center.
BENTON has always been here for CARTER ( see above) and when he walks into Carter's room, you see the transformation on CARTER's face.
WTF have TPTB tried to hook up Carter with at least one girl in EACH season when it is so obvious that BENTON and HIM had the best chemistry ever.
Just kidding. ( not really)......One of the best moments is when CARTER with a little smile asks BENTON if he wants to see a pic oh his wife.
BENTON's reaction is so so good: " you married a sister. Man, she is gorgeous".
It's so interesting to see that BENTON is a happy guy with a great professional life, still with CLEO ( bad, bad, John Wells, couldn't stand her .....) but she is a good Mom for REESE.............The little guy is now 13.. Would like to see what he looks like! ) and everything is fine in BENTON' s WORLD.
That's maybe why he is so nice with CARTER, protecting him like a big brother.
Carter's personal life is a mess, nobody knows he is in hospital for a kidney transplant.
I was totally flabbergasted when I heard that his parents were in the BAHAMAS
..............
was pretty sure that they got divorced season 9 after GAMMA's funeral...........and apparently no more jets for the BILIONNAIRE CARTERS.............The economic crisis seems to also hit hard on the families with big bucks.
What really moved me is when BENTON calls KEM for CARTER.
It seems heartbreaking for him that the little rich boy who had everything is all lonely and lost..
I have never liked KEM ( another female with no chemistry at all with CARTER ), I just felt so terribly sorry when they lost their baby boy.
But come on, even tho we guess that CARTER has still feelings for her the way he talks about her to BENTON..............it has been 5 years.
No KEM in Africa with him, still in Paris with her dying mother who has apparently the longest agony since MARK died.
I understand that BENTON can't stand seeing CARTER so lonely.............so he did what was probably the best for him.............and for the FINALE............. but KEM coming out of the blue isn't the best lines WELLS wrote.
As I am a sap, I so loved when BENTON called CARTER " JOHN" at the end, for the first time. This long way from mentor to true friend is really well done and comes full circle.
And I could ramble like this for ages................
OFF TOPIC:
Good old memories: ( season 8 )- When CARTER says goodbye to BENTON:
" I am a good doctor because of you. "
BENTON: " No, but keep trying."
These moments are unforgettable.AND PLEASE CHRISTABELLE, make a vid with the DOUG\ CAROL THEME in their last scene in bed. I didn't say anything about our " new" characters ( on the show for more than 5 years, Sam, Neela and Morris...
) but it was all very nicely done.............and I actually enjoyed Neela and Sam together.
And now I shut up for good, except if my old buddies I have shared so many episodes with ..................are coming back! But bravo John Wells. Haven't said this for a long, long time.
