Discussion thread for tonight's season finale! I can't believe how quickly this season - and these past six weeks in particular - has flown by! Hopefully everything works out between Rescue Me and Parenthood and tonight isn't the last we see of Kelly!

Nice little mention in USA Today about Maura's great work tonight. Don't let the approach of fall distract you from Rescue's summer exit. A terrific season closes with some suitably terrific work, particularly from Denis Leary, who is unflinching in the face of Tommy's demons, and Maura Tierney, who gets to explain to a sometimes skeptical audience why Sheila and Janet compete for Tommy. And then, as so often happens with Rescue Me, there's an outsized twist that is sure to be much discussed.www.usatoday.com/life/television/reviews/2009-08-31-summer-cable_N.htmETA: My guess about the big twist is that Uncle Teddy shoots Tommy.

Wow...that's all I can say right now. Pretty much amazing...and...strange. I just saw the episode and now I understand what you mean by 'Wow' And Tara, you'd make a great TV-show writer ! I thought Maura was great again, especially in the scene with Sheila and Janet. At first she was very tough but then when Sheila mentioned the baby, she was all vulnerable again. Man, she's so good! Here's Maura's clip: www.youtube.com/watch?v=z82AqyRblh0I also made a clip of Tommy and Lou talking about Kelly, and Sheila and Janet meeting to discus their plan: www.youtube.com/watch?v=wl3PrSD4F14

I just watched it. I think the scene with her, Sheila and Janet was funny... until the baby part. Sheila is/was crazy and Janet so drunk. I laughed at the 'Joe Pesci with t**ts'

For someone who is who not a follower of Rescue Me, and who has only been watching for Maura's character, i had to admit this season finale was brilliant. I might even consider watching the next season with or without Maura, just to see what happens!! This show is growing on me....
I thought the kidnapped scene was mildly amazing!! but who's the baby in this? and the fight in the street, very funny.
I thought Sheila mentioning the baby to Kelly, was evil, although i kinda expected that from her. Maura again, amazing. I like seeing this more vulnerable side to Kelly!!
But is Kelly's Character returning? I felt like this wasn't the end for her?

It was amazing. For the first time I saw the whole episode and loved it. I´ll watch some episodes from this season (at least the last ones) and next season, for sure.
That pair is something. No wonder Kelly doesn´t want to end like those women. Besides Tommy is not someone to fight for (according to Kelly and me). Watching that street fight I said to myself: Kelly is way better than that (and I think Kelly did the same).
Maura is all about nuances. Her reaction when Sheila talked about the baby was perfect - no more than necessary to show us it got her. That was mean. Gee.
And last but not least, Maura looked great.

Well, wasn't that depressing? LOL
I know we probably shouldn't expect more from Sheila, but I did. She's completely nuts, but I thought it was out of character, even for her, to be that cruel, especially about a dead child. The one thing I've always believed about her is that she's a good mother and that she loves Damien more than anything, even Tommy. So for her to use another mother's grief against them just to help her "win" Tommy was pretty disgusting. Callie Thorne was great in that scene, but any amused affection and sympathy I had for crazy Sheila is gone. I *loved* what Tommy did to her, I thought she had it coming. And Janet, who I usually hate, at least had the decency to call Sheila out on mentioning Kelly's daughter.
But before all that happened, I thought that scene with Maura, Callie and Andrea Roth was hysterical! Kelly's analogy about Tommy being like a "lousy thrillride at a ****ty carnival" cracked me up, especially the way Maura delivered it. And I think she really did start laughing when Callie said "bull****" to Tommy having comforted Kelly LOL. Then, when the scene became more serious, she did such a wonderful job with it. It was glaringly obvious that Sheila and Janet were just like caricatures at that point and Kelly was the only real woman in the room. No wonder they're so threatened by her where Tommy is concerned, clearly they should be.
I definitely think they're setting it up for Tommy to be with Kelly in the end. Janet and Sheila have meddled in his other relationships before, but I've never seen him react the way he did last night. He's certainly never referred to any other relationship as having "hope and breath and promise" the way he referred to Kelly. And I can't remember him ever talking about spending the rest of his life with someone, but when he said "You think that's the chick I want to spend the rest of my life with?" in reference to Sheila, I thought that was kind of an anvil about him wanting that with Kelly. So, even though she technically dumped him last night (but I do think she believed him about not telling Janet or Sheila about her baby), I definitely don't think that's the end for them. At least I hope not. Peter Tolan talked a lot about growth and change for Tommy in these last two seasons and there's no way, IMO, he grows or changes by winding up with Janet or Sheila.
Oh, and Christabelle - the baby they keep talking about is Wyatt (I think that's his name). Janet had a baby either last season or in season three, but no one was sure if it was Tommy's or his brother Johnny's, who Janet had a relationship with. But Johnny died last season, so Tommy considers the baby his.

I think at this point, she may believe him, but at the same time - and more importantly - she doesn´t want to be part of his "circus" life.

Oh, I definitely agree with you on that Sissa - that she isn't interested in being part of that insanity. But I thought it was important that they show her believing that he didn't betray her confidence to Janet or Sheila. So I'm happy they did that, because I didn't want it to be one of those soap opera kind of misunderstandings where it takes Kelly months or years to realize that Sheila was lying about Tommy being the one who told her. If anything ever does happen with them in the future, I didn't want that hanging over them.
And I also agree with you about Maura looking great! Loved those boots she had on!

Hi there! Yep, that's it..... and I still have the feeling it wasn't enough screen time to see Maura in action. Tommy is an a***le and Kelly thought she could trust him. I think men gossip more than women do and with Tommy's history that is a fact. Sometimes I would like to empathize with Lou with all that happened to him but he is another a***le. Loved the scene with the 3 of them, Maura, Callie and Andrea. They were all great. Another scene with Andrea is in ep. 7 season 5 when Janet and Tommy visit Kate at the private school and they have dinner with the other parents. She cracks us up when she starts drinking and decides to defend herself against all the criticisms from the rich sitting on the table. Andrea did the same with the scene yesterday. She was funny. Callie was also great. She's one of the reasons I decided to watch the show since Season 1. [ I'm missing season 4]. She was low. Very very low. I think it makes us all empathize even more with Kallie and make us dislike the other 2 characters. I also wouldn't be surprised if Tommy ends up with Kellie and not with Sheila or Janet. Another female character that was very interesting was Laura, played by Diane Farr. Season 1 and Season 2. Another reason to watch the show.
