Star cast for new submarine drama
Filming is set to start on a new five part submarine thriller for BBC One starring James Nesbitt, Minnie Driver and Goran Visnjic.
The Deep is a Tiger Aspect production and is being produced at BBC Scotland's Dumbarton studios.
The programme will follow the submarine's crew in their quest for unknown life forms before they are stranded with no power on the seabed.
It is hoped the series will reach the small screen later in 2010.
James Nesbitt was the star of Murphy's Law, while Minnie Driver's fame has been more centred on the silver screen with roles in Good Will Hunting and Grosse Pointe Blank. Goran Visnjic reached a wide audience through his appearances on hospital drama, ER.
'Proud and privileged'
Greg Brenman, Head of Drama at Tiger Aspect Productions said: "The Deep will offer a breathtaking, high-octane viewing experience, mixing non-stop jeopardy with a thrilling narrative drama from the headlines.
"It is testament to Simon Donald's gripping and expertly crafted script that we have attracted such distinguished and prominent names to this series.
"We are immensely proud and privileged to be working with Minnie, Goran and James."
Ben Stephenson the controller of BBC Drama Commissioning said: "Simon Donald's brilliantly imagined serial The Deep demonstrates my commitment to bringing the best work by the best writers to BBC One and the international talent signed up are further testament to the quality of the scripts."
