Luka and Abby are in this one.
We meet the “new guy” one evening lying in a hotel bed with two 20-something women. The aftermath of their "visit" (*wink, wink*) is all over the place--clothes, whipped cream, strawberries. He tears himself away but promises to get back to them for breakfast.
Later, at the hospital, a nurse, Aurora, shows Brenner around. He flirts with her by admiring her ruby necklace. She likes the attention but they are interrupted by Sam, Gates and Pratt with a trauma--Mia had a heart transplant a year prior and arrives in heart failure and needing an airway. Jordan is by her side. Brenner saves the day by popping some medicine under Mia’s tongue. The others are in awe. Brenner shrugs it off with a flirtacious comment--that Mia was too pretty to intubate.
Later, Mia tells Gates that she and Jordan are really close friends. He helped her while she was sick, but that’s it between them. Elsewhere, Jordan tells Sam that he can’t imagine life without Mia, and he thanks God for bringing them together.
Brenner and Pratt treat Kelly and Michelle, respectively. They are co-workers who argue during the episode. Brenner at first is assisted by Grady, but soon has no use for him and prefers Laverne, a pretty new med student. But he gets rid of her also (apparently with snide suggestions to use a different shade of eye shadow and do something with her hair).
Pratt has no luck talking to Brenner about being a good teacher and about making inappropriate comments. He gets more disgusted throughout the episode, and once more confronts Brenner, who points out that Pratt is not Chief, so he’ll continue to do what he wants. He leaves to get back to his date . . . uhhh, I mean dates.
Apart from the scenes at the hospital is a small piece at Luka and Abby’s place. We have the end of a scene where Abby says to Luka that he shouldn’t give up on her. He says he’ll never give up. The directions say he smiles but is “enigmatic.” He leaves.
When the scene resumes, Abby is still at the apartment and rolling some sort of medallion in her fingers as she talks with Coburn. Abby says she has trouble in the “amends” department. They discuss the day Abby addressed the staff about her alcoholism. Abby reminded her that not everyone approved, and Coburn recalled that Abby said Sam was a little “tense.” So Coburn declares there’s some work to do there, and she adds that there is work to do with Luka, too. Abby says “right” but it says that Coburn can see her ambivalence.
In other news . . . we learn in conversation between Pratt and Sam that Julia has quit and is being replaced by someone named Father Brian. Neela is with ortho for another week.
