I think we should open this so that people can post their pictures/experiences here from after the show!

I saw North Atlantic, but didn't meet Maura. Just a word to the wise, don't go on opening night...too many people there. Anyway, I arrived at the show 30 minutes early, picked up my tickets, and waited in line for the doors to open. This being opening night, I figured I would look nice and wore a dress and heels. Apparently I was overdressed. Most of the crowd there were college students attending for a class in jeans and tennis shoes. There were a few bigwigs in suits, but really I could count them on two hands. Once they let us in, I grabbed a really good seat in the fourth row. The theater is small so you had a good view from anywhere. They had reserved seats directly behind me and Kate Walsh (Private Practice/Grey's Anatomy) comes in and sits right behind me. Sorry but I totally eavesdropped on her conversation with the guy sitting next to her. I think he's a producer, agent...somebody in the biz. She says something about being surprised Maura is in the play and the guy she's with asks her if she knows Maura. She says no, but she loves Maura...Thinks she's great. He tells her, "Maura's hysterical. She's really sweet and funny." He tells her Maura was asked to do the play and she wasn't sure she'd be feeling up to it and was feeling better so she did it. Then he explains about Maura's cancer and how she dropped out of Parenthood and she's taking things on a day by day basis. And how she lost all her hair, but she still wants to keep working and we'll see how things go for her. At that point, the crowd got louder and I couldn't hear much more of their conversation. Then the play begins... I don't want to give the play away. Quite frankly it was hard to understand, so I don't think I could tell you what happened anyway. But Maura comes on with all the girls after the guys do their thing. There are five of them..girls that is... Two are wearing long skirts, two in long pants, and Maura in short shorts, which is where that comment the reviewer made about her great legs came from. She had a military hat/cap on, no hair, and looked fabulous. With or without hair, she's very pretty. There was some group singing, dance steps.. no full on dance numbers, just movement with their feet and hands as they leaned on that table you've seen in the pics. The stage was a weird slope angle. The girls came sliding down it to start their performance and there was some going up and down it, which wore me out just watching, so performing going up and down that thing must have been tiresome. Once Maura was onstage she and the other girls remained there the entire time. She changed into a long red wig at one point and then a short blonde one at another. And she was great. I love her voice. Its got a sexy tone to it. She spoke in French, I think, during one part, you'll see and hear for yourselves when you go. I want to warn people before you go and see this, it is not for conservative, prudish people. I'm from Los Angeles, nothing bothers me, I'm very open-minded, seen it, heard it all. BUT if you can't deal with foul language, which there is plenty of, from every character, don't go. There is a whole lot of sexual inuendo, curse words, all that. I don't want anyone going and getting offended so be forewarned. Plus at one point, there is a scene and costume change and the women run up the slope and change on stage. I noticed Maura unbuttoning her shirt and was wondering why and then I knew. The spotlight isn't on the women at that point, but you could still see them undressing up there. Shirts off, bras off, breasts shown and new costumes (strapless dresses) on. Maura turned around before taking her bra off, but some of those women didn't. (I felt really awkward typing that, like I'm invading their privacy, but you had to know.) Don't bring the kids. When the play was over, I overheard Kate Walsh say, "That was really different." The guy she was with said, "Yeah. Don't ask me to explain that to you because I couldn't if I tried." And that's how I felt. I have no words to explain it. Its entertaining.. song and dance..loud music and lights.. but kinda weird. I would love to hear all your opinions once you've seen it. Then we can talk in more detail. Afterwards, everyone piled into the lobby and small lounge for drinks and food. The cast came out rather quickly, but I din't see Maura. Too many people there in a small room. I sat down and waited. I eventually saw her at the bar where she had a drink and talked to friends/colleagues. I didnt want to interrupt her, so I waited for her to be alone, which she never was. No one there was taking any pictures or seemed starstruck like me. No one bothered Kate or Leonard Nimoy, who was there as well. They were all there for the love of theatre. I didn't bust out the camera for fear that people would think I was nuts. I felt so out of place. I finally found these four guys, who are autograph seekers waiting for anybody's autographs. I sat with them as we waited for Maura to leave the bar. They were nice, but weirdos. They had hundreds of pages of autographs from every celebrity you could think of. They could recognize the chicken scratch signatures of anybody and everybody. And they go anywhere and everywhere just to see what celebrity will sign their papers. At one point, I got up to see if Maura was still with friends, but she had left the bar and was outside smoking and talking with a group of friends. It was 12:30AM and I was too tired to wait any longer and I didn't want her to think I was with the weird guys so I left. They waited hoping to catch her alone. It was pretty empty by that time. Anybody there at that time would have looked like crazy stalkers. I guess if I had more guts I would have interrupted and introduced myself, but I'm not rude...and no one else was bothering any actor so I would have been the lone nutty fan, other than the four I mentioned. I may go back...I may not... But I won't go to another opening night where the actors talk and talk to each other for hours. I'm upset I didn't get to meet Maura, but I guess there's always next time.

THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! SOO MUCHH!! Sorry that you didn't get to meet her, but I guess you are right about opening nights!
(I have to say I am a little disappointed to hear that Maura is still smoking - it breaks my heart because I know she has struggled to quit).
I can't wait to go now!!
Did Maura look good? Was she wearing a wig afterwards? Or going all natural?
SOO EXCITED!

Hello! Chrisla, if I were you, and lived in LA, I would return at the end of the play everyday, to see her, until I was able to talk to her. I did that while in NYC during 3 Changes and everytime, I chatted with her. They are there to be approached and they are willing to talk, even if it is for 2 minutes. Thanx for the report. I also read the play and confess that sometimes the foul language is funny and catches the reader off guard. In the context of the play, it is OK, I think.

Oh, thank you so much for review. Now, I really want to see this play, right now. Just a question .. Maura appears naked? I didn't understand this part.

I also feel a bit sorry to hear Maura's still smoking. God it's such a bad habbit. Me too. I´m glad I never smoked because I don´t think I would have the discipline to give up, just like her. Thanks for the report Chrisla.

(not that i care... ) Maura is wise enough to turn around, she knows there's a bunch of crazy fans watching her Chrisla thank you so much for the review!!!! And I hope you'll get a new chance!

So I guess I wasn't too far off when I told my husband that we'll be coming out of the theater saying "what in the world was THAT"?
I'm really looking forward to seeing it in NY.

Great experience Chris. I'm glad you enjoyed the play eventhough it is out there. Sitting with the autograph seekers must have been interesting. But that is the life of an autograph seeker, a lot of hurry up and wait. We are a nice group of people, but we are a little wierd too. I would totally go back some nights just before the performance ends to see if you can meet Maura. And good for you for getting dressed up, it's fun to dress up to go to the theatre.
Kind of sad hearing Maura is still smoking, but it is a hard habit to break.

chrisia-- thanks for typing all that out, it's great to get some insight on what to expect (and to hear parts of a Kate Walsh conversation about Maura..) . I'm curious- at the after party was Maura bald or wearing a wig? Just wondering what she does when not onstage.

Chris - thank you so much for the fantastic, detailed recap! It's nice to know a little about what we can expect when we see it so we aren't completely shocked. Sounds as crazy as we thought it might be - but I wasn't expecting to hear about costume changes onstage LOL.
Even though you didn't get to meet Maura, so glad you went and had a fun time!
