I didn't think I could watch the show without Maura. Now I know I can't. To say I'm not a Helen Hunt fan would be a gross understatement LOL

It will be said not seeing Maura in this show but Helen Hunt i think is a very good choice. I really liked her in 'mad about you'.

No doubt. Before Helen Hunt the name I read was Marisa Tomei. Nice to see they are looking for a oscar winner to replace Maura. ...will have tough shoes to fill - indeed! I like Helen Hunt, but I still think Maura was better for the show, which means it won´t be as good as it could.... Heal Maura!!!!

I guess I'm just not excited by the prospect of anyone stepping into Maura's shoes in this role. The same person who gave me the heads up that Maura could be dropping out of the show also told me they heard that NBC had almost tried to force her to stay in. I get that it's a business and all about the money, and of course it was great that they delayed things for her, but I don't have a lot of respect for a company that would consider forcing a cancer patient to work - even a cancer patient as professional and strong as Maura. Of course, it's just a rumor, but I tend to believe it and it makes me not want to support anything the network does.

To me Parenthood was 99,99% Maura. I think we can see things this way, if they really almost tried to force her to stay, it is a testimony of Maura´s great work. Also, they were probably desperate - can you imagine it? They had the pilot, they saw how it could be with her then ops she´s not there anymore. Every single person who ever worked with Maura had only good things to say about her as a person and as a co-worker. It must be painful lose her. Besides, it is sad, but I think she would be cheaper than the Oscar winners they are talking to (I´ve heard of Tomei then Hunt).

Heh...probably not THAT much cheaper. Our girl had a pretty hefty contract when she left ER. Neither Hunt or Tomei have been on anyone's rader latley, have they?? Maura has been NBC's little darling for a while. They wanted the publicity. "See Maura have cancer...see Maura work through her treatments...we ALL love Maura!" Boo hiss. I think she has a lot of dedication and respect for NBC but come on. She can afford the time off and deserves to heal herself in any way she wants to. The pressure of basically carrying the show would crack a healathy person let alone one that needs to focus on putting one foot in front of the other on this journey. Geez.

Agree with everyone. Crappy of NBC if they were pushing her to finish treatment before filming or to undergo treatment during production. They did lose a lot with this, it's going to cost them to have to re-shoot the pilot, plus all the reviews said Maura's performance was the highlight of it. Helen Hunt is o.k, I may try to watch it.
I hope Maura still has a good relationship with NBC, as I said in the "Maura's next project" thread, I want her as the lead in "Prime Suspect".
Oh, and Robert DeNiro and Spike Lee are developing a TV series for Showtime that is set in NYC. Wonder if there could be a part for Maura in that.

I read about that Deniro/Spike Lee project and immediately thought of Maura too, LOL. I'm just hoping she'll feel well enough to do Rescue Me. I read somewhere that they were supposed to begin filming those final 19 episodes this month, so it would probably be a while before they would need her.
I just feel sorry for the rest of the Parenthood cast if they do end up with Helen Hunt. She has quite the reputation for being unpleasant and difficult to work with. And you know NBC will promote her (and her Oscar) to death, which might not go over so well with a cast that's supposed to be an ensemble.

Sissa, the thread is called "Ideas for Maura's Next 'Project", found in the "Maura News" section of the forum. My post about Prime Suspect is the second to last one on page three. It would be a very interesting role for her, I wonder if they would film it in NYC. She might be too young, or maybe not a big enough "star" for NBC, but I think she would be great in it.

Well, I am glad I am not a casting director for this job. I don't see HH playing Sarah at all. Josie, thanks for the excellent article. A few days ago I realized that Erika Christensen did TRAFFIC and she was terrific. I think NBC should have someone who is a supporting actor and not go for a famous name just to promote the show.
