No problem, glad you could see the scenes. I really do LOVE that last scene with Tommy. The writers were so smart to let it unfold over 6+ minutes so the conversation could get as deep as it did.

Tommy Saves Maura Tierney From a Terrible Date on ‘Rescue Me’by Jason Hughes July 28, 2011 Tommy Gavin finally sat down for his interview about the 10th anniversary of 9/11 on ‘Rescue Me’ (Wed., 10PM ET on FX). His first statement, “There are no happy endings.” This was a rather melancholy episode, filled with reflections of those big moments in life, and death. Tommy was called in to save Kelly (Maura Tierney) from a disastrous date with her doctor, only to find out she’s awaiting the results of her last round of chemo. Either she’s good to go, or it all starts over. Let’s just take a moment to applaud the brilliance of Maura Tierney. We’ve known for years how great she is, but to come out of a real cancer situation and pour that emotion into this character, who’s going through the same thing, was brave. She is absolutely amazing in carrying off these subtle moments that speak even more than the dialogue can. Can someone finally give this woman an Emmy? We’re willing to wait until next year, but that’s it! On the other end of the spectrum, Black Shawn is at what’s supposed to be a more exiting pivotal life moment, with Colleen going crazy with pre-wedding plans. A craziness that Teddy thinks is a substitute for drinking. In other words, if he can’t get her through this, she may fall off the wagon. And then there’s Lou. After the guys busted their butts to fake his way through the mandatory physicals, he finally got called out on his eating. When Tommy looks into Lou’s eyes, so desperate for a cupcake, he has to see his own alcoholic needs staring back at him. Alcoholism was going to kill Tommy just as much as food addiction will kill Lou if he doesn’t get it straight. So Tommy tried a new tactic, asking Lou to be the godfather to his unborn child. Maybe something to live for outside of himself is the kick Lou needs to move in the right direction. So many players were standing on the precipice in their lives, facing choices either in their control or out of their control. The scales could tip one of two ways. When looking at all these people and their lives, we certainly hope Tommy’s closing words aren’t prophetic. Otherwise, it’s going to be a dark road through the rest of this season. And we really like these characters. We don’t like to see them suffer. Okay, we probably do but we still want everything to come out all right in the end. We can’t help it. We’re suckers for the happy ending. www.aoltv.com/2011/07/28/tommy-saves-maura-tierney-from-date-rescue-me-video/

Wow, it's just sooooo great to watch her acting again! Finally she has some decent writing to show her true acting talent! She does seem so natural again, totally different than the uncomfortable, forced feeling that came across in The Whole Truth. She seems so relaxed with the quick wit in the Rescue Me dialogue. It just fits her really well.
Anyone else think she wrote or improvised a lot of those lines? I know Tolan said they talked and they changed the writing based on Maura's feelings, and you could just tell. Remember the interview with Ellen and her talking about meeting a woman at the plastic surgeon's office? Almost the same story she told here.
Agree with Tara that her acting style makes her co-actors so comfortable that it brings out the best in them. Yes, she is so subtle that I don't think she'll ever get the credit she deserves for her beautiful acting style. It's such a pleasure to watch her again. I love it that she's focusing on theatre for herself, but I have to say I sure do miss her on screen.
While it's great to see a nice kiss in next week's previews, I don't think it's going to be romantic. I think Tommy is going to give her something she needs, reinforcement that she's still a sexy, attractive, highly desirable woman, despite cancer.

The press needs to keep this performance on the radar because the Emmy voters have very short memories. Maura is the leadoff hitter in the lineup of guest actresses in a drama and there will be many more nomination worthy perfromances fans and the press cannot let people forget about the leadoff hitter. If they don't then there will be tons of artices next July about how Maura was snubbed.

Yeah, I was thinking the exact same thing during that scene. I was thinking the EXACT same thing when she had told that story. I bet she did improv some of the lines/ideas. She is brilliant and experienced, and a survivor as well - of course Tolan would want her input on certain things. Very eager to see what is next.
