"Head" Review RESCUE ME “Head” Season 7 Episode 5 – After faltering and flailing under inexplicable plot lines last week, Rescue Me somewhat regained its footing. Indeed, I would say that this episode was going on to become a completely solid entity, the most solid instalment of the final season thus far as Pam the reporter sets about to destroy Tommy Gavin and his coworkers and his team decide to fight fire with fire. It was sort of like a small heist movie, where the motley gang gets together to take Pam down, and I love a good heist movie. Hell, I love a coherent heist movie. I’m a sucker for heist movies, so this episode was sort of right down my alley. Unfortunately it could not quite keep up with my hopes because of the notorious ‘woman’ problem the show has, so when Tommy started spewing a monologue to his wife and Sheila and his two daughters, and as the monologue went on and on of Denis Leary espousing garbage to the vultures who make up his family, it’s hard not to get bored. So the episode, unfortunately dipped (there was also another dip involving a gorgeous blonde and a petite penis, but I’m just ignoring that subplot both because it was so minor and because it is so bizarre). One of the main problems I have is with the daughter characters – I loved the baptism scene with Tommy and Colleen at the end of last season, but that’s about it. They don’t give the daughters personalities. Their only roles as characters have been to tread on Tommy’s feet and that doesn’t make them characters, it makes them obstacles and catalysts. Same, to a lesser extent, with his wife and Sheila. The best television shows are never about one guy – they may begin that way, but eventually they branch out and explore other characters. Rescue Me has sort of done that with the men (although most of their plot lines still seem to revolve heavily around Tommy) but it has absolutely fallen flat on its face where the women are involved. The plot of course was completely implausible and convenient – oh, Mike happened to have a fling with a hotshot in HQ? Of course he did. And seeing Franco quickly and deliberately wash his hands of the firehouse’s schemes. But it was all enjoyable, if only to see Sheila gloriously be put to good use and take down Pam and get Tommy back in the firehouse. Outside of Maura Tierney’s Kelly, it was two of the best scenes of the season.www.daemonstv.com/2011/08/11/rescue-me-head-review/

The only thing interesting I got from last week's episode was that Tommy seemed to take Kelly's advice by planting a huge, passionate kiss on Janet.
I did a lot of fast-forwarding through the rest of the show.

This weeks episode was just ehh ok, not so great. I am getting anxious to see what "the end" will be like, considering it will be all about the 9/11 10th Anniversary. It has got to be a sad one for sure.

I still haven't watched the episodes 'Head' from right after Maura's arc and 'Ashes' from last week. If someone could please help me find those on line somewhere, that would be great! B.t.w. we've been discussing the latest episodes in the Rescue Me news thread but I'm afraid we should have done that here right?

You really didn't miss much, when I started watching in season 5, before Maura's arch so I knew what the heck was going on I thought the show was great, but the last 2 seasons have been not good at all. I'm wondering why I'm still watching but with one left why give up now. Maura's scenes were by far the best of the season.
About the biggest thing that happened was Lou gave Shelia and Janet the letters Tommy wrote to them but the real letter to Janet got burned so Lou wrote a fake one to Janet that said Tommy would retire from the fire dept. Which of course led to confusion.

There is an interview with Dennis Leary in the new TV Guide and he said that there will never/could never be a 'Rescue Me' movie and people will see why with the final episode. Anyone want to bet that Tommy doesn't leave his fire house brothers in the bricked in entry???

A promo for the finale came on during Sons of Anarchy last night and when it showed Needles and the Chief in the church saluting, I caught a brief glimpse of someone in the crowd who could've either been Maura or just some guy with a buzzcut. Guess I have to watch tonight to find out which it was, LOL.

I'm kind of nervous for later. I have become invested in this show, and even started watching DVDs of the earlier seasons. I know either way I will be in tears later tonight. I didn't see Maura in the promo, and I watched in several times, but that doesn't mean she might not appear in the episode. She may not even speak, she could maybe just be in the church for the funeral. Who knows. Either way, I am sure it will be one intense episode.

No Maura. Nice wrap of of the characters and story lines. Nothing truely amazing or earth shattering. The end didn't get to me like I think they were hoping it would. I think I love Lou.

In the beginning, I swear I was hysterically crying. I didn't know what to do. I really thought that was it because it seemed so real and probable. But then when he woke up, I was so shocked! I immediately stopped crying and went right into anger mode. I thought he was going to wake up years earlier and that everything had really been a dream. But then seeing him re-live the traumatic fire and seeing Lou dead was really upsetting. UGH. What an episode. I am glad they gave everyone a peaceful ending and some closure. It was comforting. I'll miss the show a lot.

Oh yeah, they sure got me fooled too ... again. I really thought Tommy was gonna die. I loved the final scene, when Lou was with him in the car, so sweet. I'll miss this show ...

I am still mourning ER. Sigh. Nothing really earth shattering or worth rescheduling for seems on our new season horizon. Oh wait! Goran on Pan Am......
