According to TV Guide ABC is planning is to shoot four or five episodes of Grey's Anatomy to air in April/May. So maybe ER will do something similar. Fingers crossed.
eta: That is if the strike is over this week. This is only ABC's plan. Haven't seen what NBC is planning.

This was posted today on TV Guide.com:
WGA to Weigh New Deal on Saturday; Writers Could Return to Work Soon After The latest buzz from the inner circles at the informal strike talks indicates that "there is strong support for the deal" that came together over the weekend, a source tells TVGuide.com. The latest terms are due to be presented to the WGA membership on Saturday, Feb. 9, and if the guild likes what they hear, the strike order could be lifted soon thereafter — even before it is formally ratified (a process that could take several weeks).
George Clooney, who was recently (and erroneously) rumored to want to personally intervene in the talks, said at a Monday taping of AMC's Shootout Oscar Special, "We're very close to having a deal. We have a tentative agreement with the writers' guild, but it needs to be ratified by the board. I think it will be."

There is some hope that it will be back as the ones not coming back were identified that way. I think what we're waiting for w/ ER is whether or not NBC decides to renew for another season or let them finish out their storylines this year.

I really don;t think that they could finish all the storylines this year. I mean...I don;t think there's enough time for another 9 episodes, right?

Since they are all seasoned vets, I would think they could get a number of shows done through the end of May. Various articles in the past stated that it takes them about 7-8 days to do an epi. I would assume that Zabel and Wells have definitive storylines written out, although not done in a formal setting. It appears from their interviews the the storylines' integrity is important to them, so perhaps they could do it. There would be only 9 epis left with a hiatus, so perhaps they could get 6 in???

Is it actually over? Everything I'm reading says not yet...?

Everything that I've picked up is reporting that the only thing left for Sat. is the formality of ending it. Everything is reporting deal was struck and hands were shook. Michael Eisner reported live last night it was over.

This is what I've heard too and the fact that the storylines are important to Zabel & Co. On that site, it says that most of the shows are to have another 5-6 episodes. So, I took that doing more than that would mean working faster and sometimes faster isn;t better. I'd prefer them to take their time. I'm curious about the timeline...Abby wasn't supposed to stay in Croatia for more than two weeks...

IMO, I think we know that Luka/Abby/Joe come out OK. It was pretty much set before the strike, IMO. I'm sure (well I'm actually hoping) all that's left for them are the loose ends to wrap up their storyline (where the work, live, etc.). I don't think they'll be much more angst for them (again hopefully). Again hopefully, GV will make his scheduled three episodes to do just that, and I think TPTB have their story worked out as Zabel always has their storyline in mind in the beginning of the season. What I expect is that TPTB will attempt to finish up the remaining cast's storylines ... I don't know, however, if any dramatic storylines or emphasis will be placed on specific characters, unless we go into another season. If that's the case, IMO, they are going to make Gates/Sam the new couple.

Maybe we'll find out that in the past month Sam and Gates got married...and so did their kids. At least we won't actually see the whole thing this way...

The strike isn't over yet - they just have a deal. The membership is positive about it, but must ratify the contract first. There was some thought the WGA board might vote to lift the strike and send the writers back to work Monday, but after meetings on Saturday, the latest word is they'll take the vote first, and if all goes well, go back to work on Wednesday.
Time-to-broadcast is six to eight weeks, depending on how you count it. John Wells did suggest ER has a couple incomplete scripts, which presumably will keep that time closer to six weeks. However, there has been no announcement yet as to whether ER will resume production. Not all shows will.
