The strike isn't over. There was a deal that the producer group gave to the WGA but they weren't able to accept it. Talks are to resume on Tuesday.

Yep, the Broadway strike ended on Wed night, thank god! I'm planning on going to NYC in a couple weeks and now all the shows are open again! I hope when the TV people sit down again on Tuesday they get closer to closing a deal.

I read that the writers were offerd $250 a year for content aired over the internet. That shut down negotiations last weekend but got people busy working out a counter offer. At least they are talking.....

so, i just went to spoil myself too see if there was any episodes written with Abby in them and i finally realised, there literally are no new more episodes written! and if the strike goes on for quite a while, obviously it will take a lot longer to write episodes and actors will have commitments- I mean like maura and mekhi wanted to leave at the end of the season but that was the season ending in June. I've just re-watched the end of the last ep and that was a very final look of Abby's, in a way after these new revelations I am even more pleased they did that becuase I feel some closure if the unthinkable happens and ER doesn't return. Hope it gets sorted out soon

This is the lastest news about the Writer's Strike:
Source: WGA Site www.wga.org/subpage_member.aspx?id=2731
The Latest Word (1/17/08)
Now that the DGA has reached a tentative agreement with the AMPTP, the terms of the deal will be carefully analyzed and evaluated by the WGA, the WGA's Negotiating Committee, the WGAW Board of Directors, and the WGAE Council. We will work with the full membership of both Guilds to discuss our strategies for our own negotiations and contract goals and how they may be affected by such a deal.
For over a month, we have been urging the conglomerates to return to the table and bargain in good faith. They have chosen to negotiate with the DGA instead. Now that those negotiations are completed, the AMPTP must return to the process of bargaining with the WGA. We hope that the DGA's tentative agreement will be a step forward in our effort to negotiate an agreement that is in the best interests of all writers.
I truly hope for the hard situation to be resolved and get back to normal or at least to know what's gonna happen to ER the next days.

I've been meaning to ask this for quite a while but didn't know where exactly to do it and I hope this is the right thread. So...we're in ...February (IF this thing will be over in two weeks) and I guess that writing an episode takes a while too. If I remember correctly, filming lasts about 8 days. So, there's no way they could actually finish the season, right? And tell all the stories they want...I mean, there's no time for another 10 episodes...I think...just a few more, not a series' end. What I'm trying to say is that no matter what, E.R. would probably have to be back this fall, even with a short 15th season, right?

Sure it's possible, but not likely. NBC doesn't have many scripted dramas and ER's been a good source of income for years. It's old now and the ratings aren't good as they used to be, but I don't think they'll just let it go out with a whimper after 14 years.

It can't end without Carter taking over the world...ummm...the E.R. And without the other ...umm...wonderful characters like Carol and Doug this show had. I would just breake down and cry. Or laugh. Probably the second.

Heard on the radio this morning (Classic Rock - Q104) that the writers' strike may be over by this coming Thursday, February 7, 2008. If this turns out to be true, TPTB may just be able to salvage the rest of the season of ER. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
