(from an nbc interview clip)
sally field: "i mean, maura's just the best. she's just simply, totally the best. i'd be here in an instant just to have another, you know, day with maura on the set."
coming from an academy-award winner, i think this is a testament to maura's brilliance. sally field has to be one of the greatest actresses of our time ("you like me, you really like me!") and to say something so obviously raving about maura makes me wonder how no one has snatched her for movie lead yet. i saw maura in "some girls", and i have never seen acting to that level. it brought tears to my eyes. it seriously confuses me how she is so underrated. hollywood is so very, very backwards.

I agree with you Maggie! It's a bit rare Maura hasn't played a big role in a movie. A few weeks ago I watched Instinct and right there and then I noticed (again) Maura is a brilliant actress!! Her role wasn't that big but the things she played she did it with her emotion. She made me cry when the girl met her father after all these years, it was so touching and good. I even think when she has they tinyest role in a movie she will manage to make that character the best.
And....for all the work she has already done she deserves an award!! (if she doesn't get one I'll make her one!!!!)

That is so nice from her! They're both just two awesome actresses, we couldn't wish for more. Both natural and talented! Me too!

I think Maura guides her movie career in the way she wants it to go. She generally chooses roles based on who she is going to be working with....Richard Shepherd... Al Pacino...Gene Hackman.... etc. I think she would have to actively go after a bigger part in a different kind of movie but maybe prefers not to. She has out acted everyone that I have seen her perform with...witht he exception of Sally Field. The two of them go at each other like gangbusters...and each one holds her own. Maura e is very understated....and VERY under rated in my opinion. But she is definitely her own person.....and I like that alot.

She is one of the pure actresses we have left. I think it's her ability to act makes her who she is. Most actresses we see today try to hard. Maura on the other hand puts herself into her characters, and becomes them. Like Abby one ER, she puts herself deep into her character, and it comes out like she's not even acting. In all her movies she's just amazing in anything. She's the type of actress that can be handed any role in any kind of movie, and she would blow everyone away. She's done all kinds of movies to prove this. Like Liar Liar, Forces of Nature, and Scotland, PA are some of her best. (IMHO) Although all her movies are the best I have ever seen. Even if they are not that good in story, or whatever, Maura makes it all worth while to watch.

here, here. i know i say it all too often, and forgive me, but seeing her in "some girls" blew me away. i've been going to plays since i was learning to walk. my mom was a HUGE broadway fanatic, and i've been to so many plays, musicals, and even Phantom, that's it's crazy. on top of it, i went to a high school with a fabulous drama department, and i've been on stage since i was five. i know acting. i've seen the best of the best, and let me just say that no one has ever compared to maura's performance in "some girls". i think she's so understated, which makes her even more spectacular. hell, i've got to write this down somewhere and mail her a fan letter. she just f*ing rocks.

I just found this on the Live Blog of NBC. It's written by David Zabel. 'Ensemble Drama Over the course of the 13 years, it's always been an ensemble drama but there's always been someone at the center of the drama. At the beginning it was Tony Edwards and then Noah Wyle. Now it's more Maura Tierney. SHe's a fantastic actress who is willing to explore any facet of human behavior, which makes it really exciting for the audience to watch her.
As for the baby, the baby is still in jeopardy at the end of the episode and epsiode 2 is really an incredible episode that explores how a lot of the relationships in the ER are worked through as everyone is waiting to see the baby through to health.'

I have to say that I just love watching Maura. Her movement fascinates me. I was watching one of the scenes with her and Goran in Strange Bedfellows (she thinks Luka still wants to go to Africa) and I was just fascinated by the combination of her body movement and the way she says her lines. She really is just amazing in her presentation.
