In this fanfic Luka and Abby are not together yet. Abby is a 2nd year resident and Luka is Chief of the ER. Both work at County. Abby has a 7 year old twins Madeline and William. She divorced Richard shortly after they were born. Abby won full custody of them and Susan is still at county.
Chapter 1: Snooze Buttons
Abby's alarm went off, filling the room with a loud buzzing. She quickly hit the snooze button and drifted off to sleep again. When it went off the second time, she shut it off and rolled out of bed. She quickly grabbed her work clothes and headed for the shower.
After Abby got out, she put on the jeans and T-shirt she picked out. Then she brushed her hair and put on a pot of coffee.
Slowly, she made her way over to William's room. She walked in, examining the race car theme he decided on last weekend when they finished the remodeling. Abby made her way over to his bed and rubbed his back gently, making him stir. Sleepily, he lifted his head and rubbed his eyes.
"Hi mommy."
"Hi baby. You have to get up ok?"
"Why? It's Saturday?" He whined, pouting a little bit."
"Because mommy has to go to work sweetie." She said kissing his head.
"I don't wanna goooooo!" He protested, snuggling his teddy bear.
"I'll tell you what, if you go today and you're a good boy, tonight we can get....ice cream!"
William lifted his head. "Chocolate ice cream?" He said, getting all excited.
"Yum! Of course chocolate ice cream. Maybe even with chocolate...JIMMIES!" Abby replied, tickling his stomach.
He squealed in excitement and ran over to his closet. Abby walked over to him and took out a pair of khakis and a Mickey Mouse T-shirt.
"Get dressed while I go wake your sister." Abby said, walking out of the room and down the hall. She examined the sign outside of Madeline's room that read: Maddie's Room. Abby thought back to when she and her were painting it with Will. They got paint everywhere, but afterwards, they ended up ordering a pizza and watching TV in their PJ's.
Abby walked into a palace fit for a princess. From the pink walls to the bed canopy, Maddie's room was decorated like royalty. After a moment Abby walked over to Maddie's bed and sat down. She kissed the top of her head and ran her hand through her brown, curly hair that looked so much like her mother's.
"Mo..mommy?" Maddie asked, yawning a bit.
"Yea sweetie, it's mommy. I need you to wake up so I can go to work." Abby replied, hoping she wouldn't have to bribe her like she did Will.
"Okay." Maddie said, hoping out of bed and getting dressed.
"Girls are easier." Abby thought as she made her way to the kitchen to grab a cup of coffee.
A half hour later Abby, Will, and Maddie were fed, groomed, and out the door on their way to the hospital. "Buckle up!" Abby told both of the kids as she pulled out of the driveway.
When they got to the hospital Abby walked her kids to the lounge and went to her locker. She swapped coats and set up all the kids things. Then she put a movie in the portable DVD player and told them both to be good, before starting yet another day in the Chicago ER.
Just as Abby walked out the door, Luka Kovac walked by. He stopped and waited for her to catch up with him, before continuing on his way to the drug lockup.
"Hey." Abby said, taking one of his many charts.
"Hey. Do you know anything about an MVA vic that came in yesterday with minor injuries?" Luka asked, looking through all his charts.
"Um, I don't think so, why?"
"Uh, Kerry just wanted me to check on him."
"Oh..."
"Yeah, so um, what's up? How are Will and Maddie?"
"They're good. Both of them are watching a video in the lounge."
"Oh, I might go say hi if that's ok?"
"Yea sure. I think they'd like that."
"Ok, well see you later Abby."
"Cya."
In Over My Head
By: The Fray
I never knew
I never knew that everything was falling through
That everyone I knew was waiting on a queue
To turn and run when all I needed was the truth
But that's how it's got to be
It's coming down to nothing more than apathy
I'd rather run the other way than stay and see
The smoke and who's still standing when it clears
Everyone knows I'm in
Over my head
Over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime
She's on your mind
She's on your mind
Let's rearrange
I wish you were a stranger I could disengage
Just say that we agree and then never change
Soften a bit until we all just get along
But that's disregard
Find another friend and you discard
As you lose the argument in a cable car
Hanging above as the canyon comes between
Everyone knows I'm in
Over my head
Over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime
She's on your mind
She's on your mind
Everyone knows I'm in
Over my head
Over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime
She's on your mind
She's on your mind
And suddenly I become a part of your past
I'm becoming the part that don't last
I'm losing you and its effortless
Without a sound we lose sight of the ground
In the throw around
Never thought that you wanted to bring it down
I won't let it go down till we torch it ourselves
And everyone knows I'm in
Over my head
Over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime
She's on your mind
She's on your mind
Everyone knows
She's on your mind
Everyone knows I'm in over my head
I'm in over my head
I'm in over...
Everyone knows I'm in
Over my head
Over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime
She's on your mind
She's on your mind
Well what do you think?
