Ok, I have another update. I may be able to update again later on, but from now on this may be more infrequent from now on because I go back to school tomorrow, Charlotte
Later that day, Luka was stood outside in the ambulance bay waiting for a trauma. There was snow falling. He was deep in thought, so much so that he didn’t notice Abby come up behind him. It was only when she moved to his side, and brushed her hand against his, that he realised that she was there.
Abby had noticed that Luka was stood outside alone, and had taken a chance by choosing to take the opportunity to talk to him. She made her way to his side, but he didn’t seem to have noticed that she was there, so she had gently reached out to him to make her presence known.
“Hi,” She said quietly when he looked at her,
“Hi, “ He replied, adopting the same tone,
“What’s going on?”
“Oh, nothing, just thinking,”
“About what?”
“Carter actually…he didn’t show up for work today…got Kerry acting like it’s my fault…Susan’s getting the same…”
“What’s he playing at?”
“I don’t know, but it’s me and Susan who are paying for it,”
“Yeah, I know what you mean. Oh, and while we are talking about Susan, I’ve told her that I’ll eat out with her later,”
“Good, you two need to catch up,”
“Yeah, since she has been asking me questions, she told me that you told her about me and Carter breaking up,”
“Yeah, sorry about that! She just kept pushing and pushing and I told her that she needed to talk to you, but then she kind of freaked out asking what had happened to you, so I had to tell her so that she didn’t carry on thinking that you’d been involved in an accident or something.”
“It’s ok, I understand; you don’t need to apologise.”
“Thank you, now you have a good time later,” He whispered to her, giving her hand a squeeze,
“I will, see you later,” She replied, turning round and heading inside whilst Luka turned his attention to the ambulance which had just pulled into the bay.
Susan was waiting for Abby in the lounge at the end of their shifts. She looked up from the book she was reading when she heard the door open, and smiled at Abby, who was looked a little dishevelled.
“You done?” She asked,
“Yeah, finally!” Abby laughed,
“You’re looking a little…flustered…what have you been up to?”
“What are you insinuating?” Abby replied a little too quickly; she’d just had a make-out session with Luka, but she wasn’t about to tell Susan that!
“Nothing, there’s no need to get defensive Abby, I’m not suggesting anything,”
“Ok then, let’s get out of here!”
“Good thinking!”
The first thing that Abby needed to do was call in at home to change and pick up her car, but after that she was happy to eat wherever Susan wanted to. They ended up finding a quiet little place in downtown Chicago that they thought was perfect, so they sat down and ordered before Susan picked up on the conversation they had started that morning:
“So are you going to tell me why you and Carter broke up?”
“He told me that he was going to Africa,” Abby replied quietly, looking up to make eye contact with Susan,
“What?”
“He came to my apartment the other night and announced that he was going to Africa. I asked him if it mattered what I thought, he said no, so I threw him out,”
“You go girl!”
“Funnily enough though, he didn’t get the message from that!”
“What do you mean?”
“Well, he followed me into the lounge the next morning and started off the whole argument again. In the end I shouted at him to piss off, and I really don’t know what would have happened if Luka hadn’t opened the door at that moment,”
“Did he leave you alone after that?”
“Well he left the room and I completely broke down, I ended up crying myself to sleep whilst Luka held me. He had to go to Kerry to persuade her that I was unfit to work, and she ended up telling him to take me home and sort me out”
“And Carter?”
“Well he did make another appearance that day!”
“What did he do?”
“I went out for a walk with Luka, and when we got back to my apartment, Carter was waiting outside, and he kicked off again because I was holding Luka’s hand.”
“Fantastic!”
“Tell me about it, it was a perfect ending to a perfect day, which ended with me breaking down once again,”
“Sounds like you’ve been having fun!”
“You could say that!”
Their food came then and as they ate, they chatted about subjects other than Carter, Susan described her holiday, Abby explained why she had been pissed off at Morris, and they just had a good laugh! Abby decided not to tell Susan about her and Luka at that time though, she wanted to keep that a secret for a while longer, and the more people who knew about it, the more chance there was that it would come out.
Once they were through with their food, Abby offered to take Susan home. The drive turned out to be as fun as their discussion in the restaurant, especially when the topic of Morris’ actions came up again and they ended up joking about what tricks they would like to play on him as a form of revenge.
When Abby got home, her apartment seemed so…empty. She was alone, and she hadn’t been so for the previous couple of nights. It was then that she realised that she didn’t want to be alone, so she gathered a few things together, including a change of clothes for the next day, turned round and walked back out of the door.
Luka was sat watching television, he didn’t want to admit it to himself, but he felt lonely without having Abby around. He sighed and laid back on the couch, only to hear the doorbell ring. He pulled himself to his feet and padded to the door. He opened and found Abby standing there.
“Abby...what are you doing he…” He began, but was cut off as she pushed him back into the apartment, slamming the door shut behind her, turning to lock it and finally pressed her lips against his hard. He kissed her back and somehow they managed to make it to the couch without breaking contact. She pulled away from him and whispered,
“I was lonely at home without you,”
“Me too,” He whispered back,
She kissed him again, running her hands around his back and up underneath his shirt,
“Abby?” He whispered,
“I’m ready. I want this, I want you,” She whispered back, looking deep into his eyes,
“Are you sure?”
“Yes I’m sure. Please make love to me Luka,”
With that he lifted her up into his arms and carried her to his bedroom, shutting the door behind them.

Hi guys, sorry it's a bit short, Charlotte
The next morning, Luka looked down at Abby, who was sleeping in his arms, and smiled. He carefully disengaged himself from their embrace and climbed out of bed. He wandered through into the bathroom and ran some water into the hand basin. He washed his face and shaved before turning on the shower. Once the water had warmed, he stepped inside.
Abby woke up to the sound of running water. She felt around a bit, before sitting up and looking around the room. She was alone. She noticed steam escaping from around the bathroom door and got up to investigate. She opened the door, instantly realising that the shower was running. She opened the door and stepped in.
Luka felt a pair of arms encircle his waist and turned around to face her. She reached out her hands to his face, gently closing the gap between them. Their mouths met in a gentle kiss. They then went about washing themselves and each other, before turning off the flow of water and stepping out of the shower cubicle.
Once the two of them were back in the bedroom, they got dressed and headed to the kitchen to grab some breakfast before they set off for work. Then they ran about cleaning teeth, and Abby tied her hair up. As soon as they had finished getting themselves ready, they both got into Luka’s car and he drove towards the hospital.
Abby asked, once again, to be dropped off a little while away from the hospital to avoid any suspicion; they still wanted to keep their relationship to themselves for the being as it was so new, and for Abby so soon after her break-up with Carter.
Abby felt guilty though, because she still hadn’t told Susan about her new relationship with Luka, and yet Neela knew that they were together and loved each other. Abby had always felt that Susan was her best friend, but for some reason she didn’t feel ready to tell her about her love for Luka. But why was it then that Abby had felt able to talk to Neela about it? She didn’t know; it was a question that she couldn’t answer. Was it that Neela had been there and Susan had been away? Or was there more to it than that?
Abby hadn’t realised how long she had been stood at Admit, deep in thought, until Luka came up behind her and rested his hand in her shoulder. She looked up and saw the concern in his eyes:
“Are you ok?” He asked her quietly,
“Yeah, just thinking,” She replied,
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah, I’m fine, but there’s something I need to talk to you about later, ok?”
“Ok, see you later,” He said, moving away from Admit towards an exam room.
Abby sighed and picked up a chart and began to walk over towards curtains. Neither of them had realised that Ray had also been stood at Admit and had heard everything that had been said. ‘What was that about?’ He pondered, ‘Is there something that I’m missing here?’

I come bearing an update, at last! I've been kinda busy with school and I've had a lot of homework to do, but I didn't have much to do tonight, so here you go. Hope you enjoy it! Charlotte
Still trying to work out what the hell was going on with Abby and Luka, Ray entered the lounge.
Neela looked up as she heard the lounge door opened, and upon seeing that it was Ray, she smiled at him before turning back to the mountain of paperwork that she was working her way through.
“What’s going on with Abby and Kovac?” Ray asked,
“What do you mean?” Neela replied, not looking up from the chart she was filling in,
“I don’t really know, they just seem to be kind of…close…”
“They always have been close; they’re friends remember,”
“I know they have, but they just seem to be acting differently…”
“Differently how?”
“Well let’s put it this way, I don’t think that I’ve ever seen them whispering in each others’ ears before,” Ray stated,
“I think that Luka has been there for Abby since Carter walked away, he’s her best friend, he never held that position when Carter was around, so I would say that they probably are closer than before because of that,” Neela countered,
“You’re probably right,” Ray replied, though he wasn’t entirely convinced; he was still suspicious despite Neela having tried to throw him off of the trail.
Once Ray had left the lounge, Neela dropped her head into her hands; she had never been a particularly good liar, so she knew that she would have to warn Abby to be more discreet whilst she didn’t want anybody to know about her and Luka.
Half an hour later, Neela had finished her paperwork and was leaving the department. She caught sight of Abby and motioned for her to follow her outside.
Abby was confused; she didn’t know what was going on. She followed Neela outside, and was just about to start talking, when Neela put a finger to her lips and pulled her away from the entrance to the ER.
Neela knew that she had to be completely honest, so she looked Abby in the eye and started talking:
“Ray suspects,” She whispered,
“Ray suspects what?” Abby looked back at her, still feeling confused,
“What do you think?”
“What! Are you kidding? How?”
“I wish I was, but he reckons that the two of you look closer than you used to, I tried to throw him off the trail, but I really don’t think that it worked,”
“This is exactly what I didn’t need. Why does everyone seem to find my private life so interesting?”
“Come on Abby! This is the ER! Everyone knows that this place is the designated rumour mill for the hospital!”
“Yeah I know, but why is it always me?”
“You must be interesting!”
“Thanks for that! And thanks for warning me about Ray, I’ll have to prepare myself for an interrogation.”
“That’s ok sweetie, I’ll see you tomorrow. Don’t get caught!”
“I won’t! Thanks Neela!”
And with that, Neela left for the El and Abby headed back into the ER. She quickly located Luka and told him that they needed to talk once their shift had ended. Luka agreed, telling her that he had something that he needed to tell her too.

Didn't take me so long this time! Enjoy, Charlotte
The shift had finally ended. Abby had managed to avoid being around Luka whilst Ray was present, but it had been hard, and she didn’t know how long she would be able to keep it up. She was tired, and just wanted to curl up in Luka’s arms and sleep.
Luka was just finishing up and handing cases off to other people before he could leave the department. He knew that Abby had already left, and was walking to the place where he usually dropped her off and picked her up. He went into the lounge, changed his white coat to his winter coat and left the hospital before he could be dragged into another trauma.
Abby sat down on a bench a few streets away from the hospital to wait for Luka. She didn’t know why, but she was feeling anxious. Perhaps it could have been the fact that Ray was suspicious of her, or maybe it was because Luka had told her that he needed to talk to her too. She was scared that he was going to tell her that his feelings had changed and he didn’t want anything to do with her anymore. As she began to analyse the possibility of the second event occurring, she felt her eyes overflow and tears began to run down her face.
Luka was wondering what it was that Abby wanted to talk to him about whilst he was driving to pick her up. He didn’t want to lose her, no matter what, and he hoped that she felt the same. He pulled over and jumped out of the car. He looked around, and noticed that she was sitting on the bench overlooking the lake. He sat down next to her and reached for her hand. She looked up and he saw her tears. They had been there before. He reached out his other hand to her face, and turned it towards him.
“Abby? What’s wrong?”
“Please don’t leave me…” She replied,
“I thought that we went through this already, how could I leave you? I love you,” Luka was confused, it almost seemed like they had taken about three steps backwards,
“You said that you needed to tell me something, I thought that you were going to break up with me.” Abby stated,
“Oh God no Abby! I just thought that you would want to know that Carter got in touch with Kerry, he went to Africa early.”
“Oh,”
“Yeah, and let me tell you that she was not at all impressed, and pretty much told him never to come back to County,”
“Really?”
“Yeah, he left, didn’t tell anyone that he was going, didn’t allow Kerry to organise cover, you get the idea?”
“Yeah,”
“We won’t be seeing him again,”
“Well that’s a relief!”
“Yeah it is. Now, what was it that you wanted to tell me?”
“Can we wait until we get home? I’m kind of cold!”
“Of course we can. Come on then let’s go home,”
Luka stood and held his hand out to Abby. She took it and allowed him to help her up. They then walked back to the car hand in hand.
Abby climbed into the passenger seat and once Luka had turned the key in the ignition, she turned the heaters up and rubbed her hands together, trying desperately to get warm. She turned to Luka and said,
“Actually, if you don’t mind, could we finish our talk tomorrow?”
“I guess so, you’re off tomorrow aren’t you?”
“Yeah, are you?”
“Yeah, so we’ve got all day to talk,”
“Good, cause I just want to curl up and go to sleep,”
“Sounds like a plan,”
“Thank you!”
“For what?”
“For being there, for helping me through this, and most of all for loving me,”
“You don’t need to thank me for that Abby, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else,”
“Neither would I,”
Abby leant her head back against the headrest, and closed her eyes. She relaxed, knowing that she wasn’t going to be alone, and all of the tension she had been feeling before ebbed away.
When Luka had pulled into his driveway and turned off the car engine, he looked over at Abby. She was fast asleep, and he thought that she looked so beautiful when she slept. He moved around to the other side of the car and opened her door. Trying not to wake her, he carefully lifted her into his arms and made his way inside. He laid her in bed and covered her with the blankets. He headed off to get himself ready for bed, which didn’t take long. He climbed into bed beside her and gently wrapped his arms around her.
“Good night Abby,” He whispered and turned off the light.
