Obitelj Kovac u Hrvatskoj (Kovac family in Croatia)
Chapter 1
BANG, BANG
"Abby, Abby open the door!" shouted a familiar voice.
Abby half opened her eyes and looked over at Luka who was fast asleep.
Unlike Luka, Abby was a light sleeper. She carefully removed Luka's arm form
around her waist and quietly slipped out of bed.
BANG, BANG, BANG
"Abby, I know your in there!"
"I'm coming, sssh, you'll wake up the whole neighbourhood," said Abby,
stumbling down the stairs.
She opened the door to find her mother standing on the doorstep.
Why has she suddenly showed up in town the middle of the night? Is she taking her meds? Is Eric ok?
"Do you know what time it is?" asked Abby, leaning on the door frame.
Maggie glanced at her watch, it was 3am.
"Are you gonna leave your mother out in the hall?" asked Maggie.
"Of course not. It is just late ... or actually early."
Maggie sat on the couch next to Abby.
"Why aren't you sleeping like everyone else, including me?" Abby said rubbing
her sleepy dust from her eyes.
"Can I stay with you for a few days please?" asked Maggie.
"What is wrong with your place?" said Abby.
"I just don't wanna be alone," said Maggie.
Abby went into bathroom and grabbed Maggie a pillow and a blanket.
"Here, you can crash on the couch," said Abby throwing the pillow and blanket on the couch.
On her way back to bed she looked in on Joe who was sleeping peacefully in his crib sucking his left thumb. His stuffed frog that Abby and Luka brought him when he left the hospital was clenched in his right hand. He had pushed his blanket to the bottom of the crib and it was now just covering his feet. She fixed the blanket, kissed him on the head and left the room.
