Hey guys! Sorry for the delay! I had some other stuff to do... But here's a new update!! Tha last one before the drama...
Luka left one week ago. They didn’t have, still, any news about Carter and the hope to find him alive were lower each day. When they were not making searches, Luka helped the doctors to take care of people in the encampment, which was almost destroyed in the Janjaweed attack. In all the occasions that they met the Janjaweed, the rescue team, highly armed, tried to take off some information about Carter and the children, but they didn’t succeed. They seemed intimidated with the presence of US militars, but they clearly knew some thing about Carter.
In the other side of the ocean, Abby tried to keep with her routine. Due to the pregancy, she was taking shorter shifts, usually 6 hours, so she had more time to be at home. She asked Kerry to came back to have normal shifts, but she said that it would be very dangerous for a multiple gestation, and if Abby didn’t accept the shorter shifts, she would antecipate her maternity leave. The house seemed giant without Luka. She walked from one side for another, cleaned, cooked (or tried to), cleaned again, tried to get things to be done. The worst time was when she went to sleep. Abby missed so much Luka’s strong arms around her. The bed was cold and too big for her. She even missed his snoring, or when he talked in Croatian with the babies when they wake her in the middle of the night moving too much. She realized, too, that the babies were more agitated after Luka travelled, seemed that they got used to his voice before going to sleep and was missing it now he left.
With Luka’s travel, she had to tell Kerry what had happened, and, of course, the entire ER knew about everything some minutes later. Gossip in the County had an incredible power, and even if after such a long time working in there, Abby was still was surprised with this. Every day, her co-workers asked her about Luka and Carter, and she was anxious for not having answers to give them. After a shift, Abby and Neela had decided to do some baby shopping. Not that it was necessary, the nursery was full of little clothes, little shoes, diapers, blankets and toys. But Neela thought that her friend nedded to get some distraction. Abby also needed to buy clothes to herself.
“How can pregnant clothes not fit me anymore?”
“Oh, I think that pregnant clothes are made for pregnants with one baby… and, for the father’s size, this babies must be quite big…”
“I hope so… I don’t want them to be short like me…”
“Hey, what is the problem of being short?”
Neela finally got a smile from Abby’s lips.
“Look at this, Abby! It’s so cute! Neela showed Abby a baby cloth. “It really is… Will be perfect in the boy...”
“Don’t you have names yet?”
“Not yet… we already argue about some names, but I think that both have a horrible taste for names… Jewel, Liberace, Charo… good for music, though...”
“Gosh, you’re right. You guys have a horrible taste for names.” Abby laughed one more time. She started to remember the moments she and Luka argued these details about the babies, always having so much fun. Her smile suddenlly disappeared of her face.
“I’m so afraid to loose him...” Neela lowered her head and answered. “I know how you feel…” Abby raised her head, realizing what she had said.
“Neela, I’m sorry, I didn’t want to...”
“No, it’s ok, Abby, really. Michael took a decision in his life and I knew that, he was where he wanted to be, and I’m proud of his decision. He told me to move on, and I’m trying to do that.”
“You are feeling better, then…”
“I have good and bad days. However I have been so confused…”
“Confused?”
“About… new… relationships, new loves.”
“About Ray.” Neela looked at Abby surprised.
“How…”
“Ow, Neela, it’s written on your foreheads, both of yours.”
“It is hard to hide, isn’t it…”
“Then have you guys done something?”
“No… Before Michael die, Ray said that he had feelings for me… since then I avoided him, I was feeling horrible… until, in the day we helped you guys to move your stuff to the new place, he left me at home…”
“And what it happened?” Neela laughed at her friend’s enthusiasm.
“He told me that his feelings for me haven’t change, that he was sorry about Michael and knew that it was hard to me now…”
“...he said that he’s going to wait for me, and he will never give up.”
“Owww, that’s so cute!” Abby hugged her friend.
“Who would say that the rock doc would be so romantic!”
“Who would say that you would like a romantism that much...”
“Oh, Neela… people change…”
“The Croatians change people, you mean.” Abby laughed.
“Only one in special.”
“He really touched your heart, didn’t he?”
“Yeah… you know, I never believed these soul mate thing, but it is like Luka said, seems that we always find each other. In our first relationship, it was all wrong, we were so immature and commited with our own problems to realize how much we loved each other. Prove of that is the way we broke up…”
“How was it?”
“Oh, it was horrible, One saying lies to the other… one trying to hurt the other the worst way possible. But… we was separated and then, the friendship grew up. Each one passed for much things, some good, other terrible… for all these years we could count with one another, and then sudenlly we found each other again as a couple.”
“I think that all this was essential in the decision to keep with this pregnancy, that happened so soon. He was not only one boyfriend, you know… he was Luka.”
“I understand…”
“And now, I can’t stop thinking about what can happen to him in there, and it’s driving me crazy…”
“Nothing bad is gonna happen, Abby… everything will be just fine… Luka went to bring Carter back, and both of them will be safe.”
“I hope so… but how about you? When are you gonna surrender to those arms with tatoos and that bad boy’s look?”
“Hey, since when you see Ray like this, huh?” Abby laughed.
“Well… I think I always did…”
“If Luka knows about this…”
“Hey, don’t change the subject”
“Well, I don’t know… I think that it’s still too soon, but at least we are talking again... I‘ll give time to time, nothing about running this time.”
“Good, but I want to be the bridesmaid of this marriage, too”
“Abby!”
They left the store laughing, full of bags.
