Chapter 5“Didn’t you just finish?” Morris said as the three of them came into the ER.
“Where’s Dr Weaver?” Luka asked Jerry ignoring Morris’s comment, which was easy to do, most people done it on a daily basis.
“Exam 2” Jerry stood watching as Luka came round the other side of the desk and check the board.
“How about exam 3?” He looked at Abby.
“I’ll get Kerry” Abby walked towards exam 2 and found her. She explained what had happened while Luka tried to settle Ana in exam 3. By the time Abby and Kerry reached the exam room Luka was walking up and down with an again, hysterical Ana.
“Someone doesn’t sound happy” Kerry said as she walked towards Luka.
“Tell us about it” Luka bounced up and down a little hoping to help.
“Ok lets lie her down and get her examined. See what’s happening with you little one” Luka placed her down on the bed while Inez came in to give Kerry some help examine her.
“Why don’t you two go get some coffee?” Kerry said a little while later.
“Why what’s happening?” Abby moved off the bed she was sitting on with Luka.
“Abby, you’ve had a long day. And you look like you could do with it” Kerry tried to be positive as Inez rubbed Ana’s chest, which calmed her down a bit.
“You’ve got the magic touch Inez” Abby said a little distant. She was more upset that someone else could calm her daughter down more than her.
“Come on Abby, let’s go get some coffee” Luka moved off the bed and held his hand out for Abby. He knew she didn’t want to leave, but if Kerry started ordering more tests it would upset her more. “I’ve got something to talk to you about anyway” Luka tried to get her going.
“Abby I promise I will come and find you if we find anything or anything changes” Kerry looked seriously at Abby.
“Ok. I could use a coffee” Abby grabbed Luka’s hand and he led them out into the hall.
“What have you got to tell me?” Abby asked now intrigued in what Luka had to say.
They went up to the canteen and Luka got them two coffees.
“Well…” Abby sat waiting for Luka to speak.
“What are you doing on January 14th?” Abby looked confused at Luka.
“I don’t know Luka. It’s November” Abby looked at him waiting for more of an explanation on the date.
“Well I went to the church after my shift and they have penciled us in for the christening” Luka smiled at Abby waiting for any kind of response.
“It’s a bit soon Luka. I’ve not even spoke to Eric yet” Abby thought of any excuse, she couldn’t be thinking dates just now.
“Well he and Maggie are coming for Christmas. You could ask him then” Luka tried to coax her into talking.
“I guess” Abby looked up at Luka who was now looking into his coffee, she could tell he was a little upset, he had tried to cheer her up and all she had done was dismiss him. She reached over and took his hand that was sitting on the table, making him look up. “Thanks”
“For what?” Luka moved his other hand over Abby’s.
“Getting it all sorted”
“It’s not all sorted… only the church part. We can work on the rest later” Luka and Abby smiled at each other.
“This coffee is terrible” Abby pushed the coffee away with her free hand.
“Let’s go” Luka got up off his seat still holding Abby’s hand.
“What” Abby said acting surprised.
“I know you don’t want to be here any more than I do. So come on lets get back down to her” Abby and Luka got in the elevator still holding hands. They weren’t alone on the ride down but Abby moved closer to Luka using her other hand to hold onto Luka’s arm. When the elevator opened at the ER they moved their way through the people still on the lift out into the corridor. Abby gave Luka another smile then looked into Exam 3.
“Who’s that?” Abby asked looking at the doctor in with Weaver.
“No idea” Luka shrugged his shoulders looking in. Abby let go of Luka’s hand and arm and walked quickly into Exam 3 closely followed by Luka.
