I like Sam's character she is fiesty and interesting and doesn't let anyone push her around like I remember one epsiode where she flips some guy over though I can't remember why. But, I didn't really like her and Luka together. THey never really seemed happy. Though I don't like the two of them together I do like Sam as a character and think ER is a better show with her.

I'm not a big Sam fan either. Her character is ok but I think that I like Morris better than her.

What i don't get is how the hell can someone say they don't want to be with Luka. He was so in love with her and wanted them all to be a family and she said "NO" OMG is she completley insane.
I mean i would not kick him out of my life like that. Would any of You

Hmm...Sam and Abby have both had bad lots in life and yet Sam seems to have emerged more emotionaly stable than Abby. Whatgives on that?

People vary of course in how they respond to circumstances but what happens when we're very young sort of determines our "wiring" and how we are likely to respond in later life. I think the big difference is that as far as we know Sam's childhood was pretty unremarkable and she has a stable emotional background (until she fell for Steve of course). Abby's whole take on life has been shaped by one mentally unstable parent and one absent one and her main barrier to being happy has been a willingness (or the confidence) to expect anything other than disappointment and failure.
Committing to having a baby is I think a really significant move for her; she has an investment in the future now.
As for Sam, I think she's struggled to move on from her 15 year old self, a task made almost impossible by Steve's periodic reappearances. I always felt that she reverted to that 15 year old self when he was around.
I watched Sam and Luka together on the (mistaken as it turns out!) assumption that the writers would show her learning to grow up via her relationship with Luka and develop her into a character who could handle the relationship. By the time they got to the therapy session I wanted to hit her. Who gets angry when their SO either can't or won't talk about something so very painful? To top it off we found out in 12.01 that she had never tried to prompt him by, for example, asking his childrens names; still knew nothing about Croatia - and this is the woman who pouted and flounced about Luka's lack of communication and went on to arrange to move out of the apartment without telling him.
Of course by then the writers were beating the relationship to death with several blunt instruments prior to burying it 20 feet down with a stake through its heart. Sadly, in the process they made Sam a very unsympathetic character. She's been better since then but sort of surplus to requirements.
