Here it goes, a new update. I'll try to update a little more tomorrow....and don't worry you'll have the answers to everything, soon Have a happy day ...or night! ____________________________________________ CHAPTER 4: SHE'S NOT OUR CHILD
“FIVE STITCHES!” Clarisse’s mother yelled. “THE BOY NEEDED FIVE STITCHES ON THE FOREHEAD!” Mrs. Sandford paced all over the study of Clarisse’s father completely overwhelmed by the incident during their breakfast with the Mayers. Mr. Sandford, was sitting behind his desk looking from his whinning wife to Clarisse and from Clarisse to his whinning wife.
Poor Clarisse, was looking down at her shoes, avoiding to look at anyone. She was so ashamed about what happened. She didn’t want to hurt Trevor…okay, maybe she wanted to hurt him a little, but not that much…
“WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?” Her mother stopped to look at her. “WE GIVE YOU EVERYTHING YOU WANT, EVERYTHING YOU NEED AND THAT’S HOW YOU PAY US BACK? IMAGINE WHAT EVERYONE IS GOING TO SAY ABOUT ME! ABOUT US! WE’RE COMPLETELY RUINED AND ALL THANKS TO YOU! She looked at the little girl with fiery eyes.
“Amanda” Mr. Sandford sighed “You’re overdramatizing…” “OVERDRAMATIZING?!” Mrs Sandford yelled “Last year we had a similar incident too, remember the Braukoff’s dinner? Remember what SHE did to their fine china?…And what about the year before when she pushed the Richmond’s daughter into the lake? And when she was kicked out from the Ballet presentation because of her behaviour towards the other children, threatening to hit them with her shoes?...This girl has a serious problem, she isn’t even smart enough to bring any achievement award from school, not a single one! She is a shame to our family, a complete shame to our name. She must be slow and..”
“Amanda, that’s enough!” Mr Sandford interrupted his wife. “We were talking about today’s incident” Clarisse just stayed staring down at her shoes. He cheeks were flushed. No, she wasn’t that smart, nor as perfect as her mother wanted her to be. She had problems with some kids but that was because they were mean to her. “I didn’t mean to hurt Trevor. I’m sorry” She mumbled, feeling tears building in her eyes, she wanted to cry, but she tried not to do. “BUT YOU DID! AND BY NOW WE MUST BE IN EVERYONE’S MOUTH! MY SOCIAL LIFE IS RUINED, NOBODY IS GOING TO INVITE US ANYWHERE BECAUSE OF YOU! YOUR BEHAVIOUR IS UNACCEPTABLE!” “That's enough!” Clarisse’s father stood up “She said she was sorry and that’s enough. Clarisse, you may go to your room” “ENOUGH??” Clarisse’s mother looked at her husband speechless. “SHE ATTACKED AN INNOCENT LITTLE KID!!!” Clarisse bit her lower lip. “I’m sure Clarisse had a good reason to react that way” His father looked at her, waiting for an answer. Clarisse looked at her father. She wasn’t sure if she should tell him … “SEE? SHE JUST TOSSED THE CHAIR AGAINST POOR LITTLE TREVOR BECAUSE SHE WANTED TO!” Her mother screamed. “I THREW IT BECAUSE HE CALLED ME BASTARD!” Clarisse finally blurted out, tears appearing in the corner of her eyes.
Her parents turned pale. She noticed it and knew why, it was because about their secret, that secret they were trying to hide from everyone and that felt she knew a little…or at least suspected what was it. “Clarisse, go to your room” Her father said, in a solemn tone. “WAIT” Clarisse’s mother stopped her. “Is that all?” She asked to her husband “Aren’t you going to ground her?” Clarisse had never seen her mother so angry, it was scary. She was obviously sick about her and all the trouble she had caused all over the years. “Amanda, she’s our child and we must unders…” “SHE’S NOT OUR CHILD!!!” Clarisse’s mother screamed exasperated. “AND SHE’S BEEN NOTHING MORE THAN A BURDEN SINCE SHE ARRIVED!”
Clarisse just looked at her mother feeling as if someone had poured a bucket of icy water over her head. It struck her. Somehow, she knew it. She had felt it for a long time but she had never expected to hear it that way. “Clarisse, go to your room” Her father repeated looking angered at his wife. Clarisse’s feet stayed glued to the floor. She was too shocked to leave the place. “Have you got any difficulty in obeying your father’s orders?” Her father asked her softly.
Clarisse shook her head and calmly walked out of the study. Her little head was a mess. One thing is to think you don’t belong somewhere, and other to be yelled you don’t... Than you’re nothing more than a pathethic burden.
She was walking down the big hallway that led to her bedroom; when tears finally rolled down her flushed cheeks. She was scared, terrified...She wasn't their daughter... All sort of feelings began to invade her. Fear, loneliness… She stormed into her room and locked the door behind her. What if they kicked her out? No, they wouldn’t, they couldn’t, after all she was their only heiress. She had hear them talking about how important she was to the family; about the millions she was going to inherit. She sniffled, trying to hold the tears but it was impossible. She needed to cry.
She sat on her bed hugging hard one of her dollies. She needed to cry so much. "I’m alone…” Her voice broke as disconsolate, she sobbed . “Nobody wants me” She looked down at her doll. ”But who would want a stupid girl like me?” She threw it away from her. “Maybe that’s why my real parents left me…" She cried silently. "I want someone to love me…” Clarisse buried her face on the soft white pillows, tears relieving the pain inside her.
Minutes later, with wet blushed cheeks, she went to sit on her desk and opened her laptop. The time had come, she didn’t have to wait any more years for her godfather to tell her everything. Now, that she knew it, she had to ask him everything. At least he was the only one who seemed to care about her.

Today, you won't have feedbacks from me! My daughter read the whole pic about one hour ago, ( she understands english!) and she just asked me to tell you ( quoting ): " it's one of the best books she has ever read". "Much better than any stupid french book for children!" She absolutely wants to know what happens to Clarisse! (one of her friends is called Clarisse btw, it's not uncommon in France!)!!! I JUST TOTALLY AGREE WITH HER!! You certainly don't imagine what a GREAT victory it is to have a child HOOKED by a fic! ( my kid isn't a fervent reader! ) So, thank you TWICE as much, baby!
