I've been watching season 8 again and am coming up to the episodes 'the letter' and 'the beach', just watched the part where carter reads the letter why is it that i've seen these episodes so many times and i still end up crying..? i can't help it..! as soon as the faxs comes in, out come the tears! i even cry in the episode, 'Orions in the sky', his final day in the ER.... What is it about Dr greene that has this effect on me...?

I think Mark has that affect on everyone. He was a good dad, tried to be a good husband, was caring and in control in the ER. He was also the central character for so very long....the glue that held them all together. The cast did a stunning job exposing that little reality in 'The Letter'. Just their faces as Carter read Elizabeth's post script. That whole episode really gets to me....probably even more than 'On The Beach'.....

I thought the letter was a real mixture . It started off really sad . I really felt for Susan (being so close to Mark)and Kerry finding the fax on the noticeboard. But I remember laughing out loud later at a drunk Abby biting Carter who was lifting her up and trying to take her to a meeting.

I got season 8 from my cousin for christmas (god I love her!!!) and have watched it all in the last week. I think it was an amazing season, but found myself crying a LOT through it, especially in those 2 episodes 'the letter' and 'on the beach'. I just finished watching the series and now my face is a nice blotchy red colour. I know i cry a lot in ER but I think those are possibly the episodes that got to me the most, especailly when Carter reads out the letter. Anyway, i will stop rambling...and find the cheapest place to order series 9... xxx

Amazon (or ebay) are currently cheapest for S9!
I think Dr Greene has one of the best death's on television. Not just the last two episodes but all of S7 and S8 as he struggles with the brain tumor - its just so brave to put that on tv when most characters are killed off in a single or double episode by contrast in ER you have someone (the main character!) dying slowly and realistically. Painfully sad but also the only way that Dr Greene would ever have left the ER.

I honestly think I was the only person in the world who didn't care when Mark died! Don't get me wrong i'm not cold hearted or anything, I loved Dr Greene but they just dragged out his illness for so damn long that by the end of it I was like "DIE ALREADY" I just couldn't take anymore of it, it was too depressing and felt too dragged out.

Hee....Wendy...in retrospect, I felt the same. I think they could have easily left the story with 'The Letter' and how his death affected the ER staff. That was a BEAUTIFULLY done episode. I was so scik of Rachel and her antics that I didn't really enjoy watching her frolic in the surf with the new kid. And I just waned him to be over and done with. I hated watching his physical deteriation. Too sad. But then I have felt the same with Abby's recent arc. Not that I felt either story didn't warrant the time and attention. I just flet like TPTB like pouring salt intot he wounds they ripped open week after week.....
