I just watched Sally Field's initial performance as Abby's mother again and it suddenly occurred to me that she is the ONLY performer that I have not seen Maura be able to upstage. They are SO very GOOD together!! Interesting and inspired casting! Does anyone remember which episode it is that Abby tell sher mother she was chased around with a knife after visiting her father when she was 10?

Sally Field is a TV and Film legend. She is an amazing actress, and she and Maura had such good chemistry. They bounced off one another so well, it came across as so realistic.

Maura and Sally were amazing together! And I know that Maura loved working with her, you can tell by the way she mentions the experience in some interviews! For me, the best moment between Abby and Maggie was in Season 7 when Maggie checks herself out of rehab and Abby goes and says this whole speech that she is powerless to stop what Maggie does to herself but that she will show up and show up because Maggie has this power over her! Then she just kinda shrugs and says, "I love you, Mom." OMG, I was crying so bad!

I watched Rescue Me and The Dance We Do this morning on the TNT reruns, and they work magnifecently together. They bounce off each other so well and are amazing actresses. I also do think they look like a family. My favorite scene was at the end of Rescue Me when Abby's leaving and she brings Maggie with her and they share an umbrella. Such a nice mother/daughter moment.
And I loved the scene where Maggie is talking with Chen's mother about becoming a grandmother cuz it's not a foreshadow at all, but I was like "eeek, luby baby."

i think they play off one another so well because they are so INTENSE on-screen. they both play such tortured characters, and the whole interaction is really perfect - body language, facial expressions, etc. i would really love to see them in something else together. i do adore their dramatic abilities, but it would be interesting (to say the least) to see them in a comedy together. hmm...

Oh...I do SO agree with you, Maggie. I wonder though.....does SF enjoy working with Maura? Has she said so anywhere?

I guess she does. I love Sally Field, she is far gone one of the talented actresses in the world! She is doing great job as performing Maggie, who is a very strong character, and I can believe is hard to act her. But she just does it magnificientically! (lol is that even a word?) Maura and Sally are the best women to play Abby and Maggie. I could never see anyone else performing them. Sally's great in 'Mrs. Doubhtfire' btw, I love that movie!

It was so great that Sally Field came to ER to play Maggie. Maura and Sally's chemistry works so good together. You would really think they were mother and daughter.
