I wouldn't rely totally on interviews either, however, with these interviews, I do believe we gain some insight into what to expect by the actors and/or writers of these shows.
I do agree that 7 years has been invested in character/relationship growth to make this relationship work and adding the baby more or less sealed the deal, IMO. After all this time making them a family, I too doubt they'd tear this relationship apart. It really would be pointless and serve absolutely no purpose whatsoever for the series.

I completely agree wrt the interviews, if Zabel or Maura and Goran seemed less than enthusiastic it would be cause for concern, and their enthusiasm does give one comfort right now. My main point was that one doesn't have to hang one's hat completely on the interviews there's a lot of storytelling as well as common sense that points to a happy end even after this rather large hell. So we are agreed!

I have to agree with everything. Luka and Abby are the only couple worth seeing, there's been too much character development put into these two to let it all waste.
Sorry..I forgot about MT being contracted...it kinda slipped my mind.
So, I just have to say that this show isn't what it was, and I'm saying that with all the disappointment. Luka and Abby are the only ones I;m invested in.
I didn't use to be a shipper of any couple, but they were my favorite characters even if they weren't together. that being said, back in the days when I had no idea about carby or luby shippers, I used to love just watching the show.
Honestly, I can say that, in terms of drama, season 9 was the best (I started watching the show since S6), because then I think everyone was going through their little hell.
My heart broke watching Luka pay to have someone he could tell about his day, Abby hurting in various ways, the storyline Susan had with the cancer teenager, hell...I can't even listen to Coldplay-Clocks now, after all that time, because it makes me feel for Romano (the song was played in one of his scenes on the roof in S9) and I didn't even care about him!!!
That was intense and good writing for everyone.Now...I just can't seem to care about any other than these two. So, I guess the writers invested in them waaaay too much to let it go down the drain.
So, I do hope, for the sake of the icon the show was, this is E.R.'s last season.

Didn't previous spoilers indicate that Abby gave Joe a cup of milk in the morning?

I just skipped from page 2 up to here as I figure well everyone has a thought ..may as well just add mine. I think Goran left ER for several reasons, time with family, opportunity to do other work and to have a well earned break. Our beloved Goran can't afford to rest on his laurels though and it was smart of him to sign on for more episodes on a show that has given him great exposure. HOWEVER.........he is a working actor and he can't just come back for a few sweet and soppy episodes to appease the viewers...I'm guessing his conditions invloved having storylines that allowed him to do some dramatic acting as well. So far the spoilers haven't given much away and it seems Abby is the focus of most of it.....but I'm betting Goran 's character of Luka plays an intergral part of Abby's alcoholism finally being addressed properly and understood by him...even if we as fans have to suffer a little bit of anguish first I am hoping and praying Luby gets a happy ending..eventually...at least by this episode I would like a sign of some sort. P.s I know Carby lovers are hoping for some action but I had no idea the Samka's had become so ravenous

Sam doesn't seem to have any interest in Luka at all. She's dating that cop now. Last season she had that nurse guy. I don't see how that would even make sense.
Then again I don't understand the Carby thing either. Carter is married to Kem and Abby is married to Luka.

I hope not! but there was a program on TV awhile back about older children who are still being breastfeed! i think one girl was about 8! It's perfectly normal for an 18-month-old to be breastfed. The global average for weaning is age three - which is actually when most children will self-wean naturally. Breastmilk is one of the most nutritious and natural food sources available. The taboo against toddlers nursing is very much a recent thing. While it's not okay for eight-year-olds to be nursing, it's actually encouraged by many experts to continue breastfeeding until at least age two. Especially in the case of a preemie, as Joe was, it would be beneficial for him to continue nursing at that age.

The last mention of Abby breastfeeding was, I think, in Ames v Curtis when she had to dash to the break room to express milk, so I think we are not meant to assume that this is yet another way in which she is endangering her child. The much bigger danger is that she appears to be on the verge of alcohol poisoning.

The much bigger danger is that she appears to be on the verge of alcohol poisoning. Alcohol poisoning tends to be a result of binge-drinking, not chronic alcoholism. While we've certainly had indications that she's been drunk, there have been no references to her actually ingesting the sort of quantities that would be common in a/p cases. Given her size and the fact that she hasn't had a sip in four plus years, it wouldn't take much to knock her on her ass the first couple times. Despite being an alcoholic, she's also a doctor and knows how to avoid alcohol poisoning. Not to say she's not walking a dangerous line, but I don't think that's the biggest concern. If anything, it's her job that's most in danger.

If anything, it's her job that's most in danger. I don't know about that. The last scene we have for her is "alone in her own world" with a bottle of vodka, having poured herself a coffee mug-full which she drinks from, with the bottle still open beside her. I would say that, at this point, alcohol poisoning is a very real possibility. She may be a doctor (and a wife and a mother), but she's an alcoholic and that is what is prevailing right now. Do we fade to black on her unconscious or the big save?
