Day’s flew by and before I even had a change to call Sam at Maggie’s it was time to pick her up at the airport. I was early and bought a coffee and a donut for breakfast. “Boo!” I hear right behind me. “Sam!” I hug her as if she has been gone for a year or longer. “Abs. I missed you so much! You don’t wanna know!” “I missed you too Sam! Tell me everything!” “Well mom is on her meds and Eric has a girlfriend, she’s from England and has his nasty accent. But she’s nice for Eric. Mom took me to the museum and we had a shopping day. I bought something for y’ll and something for the wedding. O yeah I told mom and she’s so happy for you. Oh my god Abby how is things at home?” “Easy girl. I’m glad you had a great time. At home everything is back to normal. Dani is back to school and Micha too. Luka and I, well work of course. Let’s go the others are waiting at home.” And we leave the airport.
“Sam!” Micha and Dani yell when we open the door. “Hey!” And she hugs them both. Luka comes next to me and holds me. I look up into his eyes, smiling at each other knowing it will all be alright. All the drama that will come into our lives will be knocked away with the power of love. Cause that’s one thing, we all love each other for who we are. Not for what we do or what we say.
It doesn’t bother neither Luka nor me that Sam spends lots of time behind the laptop; it doesn’t bother Micha that Sam spends more time with his sister than with him. He knows why and has his own friends. He loves it when she does spend time with him, it’s their quality time. It doesn’t bother Dani any more that her dad kisses another woman instead of her mom. She knows I love her, her brother and her father. This is how we all get involved in the family we created among us. It’s a nice one. But for me it’s not complete. It has nothing to do with Katie. I really would love to have child with Luka. Meaby someday. First, we need to marry.
“Dani! Have you been wearing my new jeans?” And it’s like she was never gone away. “No I haven’t, I don’t even fit them!” “Well it was right here when I left and now it’s gone.” I knock on their door before I enter. “Girls please!! Sam, is it this one?” I show a jeans I took of the floor to wash it. “Yeah where did you found it?” “On the floor next to your nightstand. I picked it up to wash it for you.” And I throw the jeans to her and close the door behind me. “Sorry Dani.” I hear Sam say. “It’s ok. Did you heard anything of her.” World peace again, good job Abby! Her? Bet their talking about Susan. I don’t want to hear it and go downstairs to find Luka and Micha playing on the play station. I sigh and walk into the kitchen to fix something for dinner.
“Dad? Are you bringing me to bed and read me a story?” Micha asks when it’s already past his bedtime. “Sure, come on.” “Luka he needs a shower first!” I say when he lifts Micha up. “Will be fine Abby.” And he carries him upstairs. I let myself drop on the couch with a cup of hot chocolate milk and my favorite television program Oprah. Lovely some time alone I think. But it’s interrupted when Sam and Dani coming down asking if were going to watch a movie. “Sure.” I say and the both take a seat next to me. They picked out a tear-jerker and Luka finds us crying on the couch. “Ladies, chocolate ice-cream?” We all nod and he goes into the kitchen to give us our ice-cream. “If someone needs me I’m in our bedroom fixing the laptop. Again we nod and don’t even thank him for the ice-cream. Later I find him sleeping in bed with his clothes on. I crawl next to him and he opens his arms.

I wake up and realize today is the day. Our wedding. I slept at Susan’s with Sam and Katie. Luka stayed in my house, well ours, with Dani and Micha. Maggie and Eric arrived yesterday along with Luka’s dad, Ivan and brother, David. The girls will be bride’s maids and Micha will hand over the rings.
“Abs. It’s time to get out.” Sam whisper when she’s close to my ear. “I know.” And I give her a bright smile. “The weather is wonderful. Birds are singing their song and Maggie is already making breakfast.” “Come here for a while.” And I open the sheets and she comes lying next to me. I hold her for a while and tell her how much she means for me and how much I love her. She loves me too. I knew that.
My cell rings and I see it’s home calling. “Abby.” “Abby…where did you hide the rings? I can’t find them.” It’s Micha, can hear he’s nervous. “I’ve got them over here. Sorry kiddo. I’ll give them to you when we meet. How is your dad doing?” “Fine. Uncle Eric just made breakfast and grandpa is with him to help him dress. I’ve got to go dad is calling.” And before I can say bye he already hang up on me. “Well Sam…now it’s really time to get out.” And we both laugh.
My dress is ivory coloured with little flowers on it. Katie said it is a dress for a princess. The dresses for the girls are almost the same but with butterflies instead of flowers. My hair is beautiful done by Neela. She managed to get it all up on my head and set it straight with little snips with bright diamantes in it. When I come down from the stairs Susan, Maggie, Katie and Sam are blinking their eyes. “You look so beautiful.” Susan says. “Abs, you should wear your hair like this more often.” Sam tells me. “Mommy you’re a princess.” Katie. “I never dreamed of my daughter like this.” Mom says when tears fill her eyes. I would hug them all if I wasn’t dressed like this. “Girls time to change.” I tell Katie and Sam when the doorbell rings. “I’ll open it.” Susan says. It’s Dani. “Go upstairs Dan. Neela is helping Katie and Sam.” I say to her. “Wow Abby! You look beautiful! If dad could only imagine you would look so beautiful.” She says when she’s gazing at me. “Thanks hun. Go upstairs now will you.” I kiss her forehead and she walks away.
“Do you, Abigail Lockhart take Luka Kovac as your beloved husband in health and sickness to death do us part?” The vicar asks. “Yes I do.” And I smile. “Do you, Luka Kovac, take Abigail Lockhart as your beloved wife in health and sickness till death will part do us part?” “Yes I do.” Luka answers and smiles at me. “You have written your own wedding vows?” “Yes.” “Luka you may start.”
I, Luka Kovac, take you, Abigail Lockhart, to be my wife, my partner, my friend, my confidant, my soul mate. Together, we can accomplish anything. Together, our love will grow into a bond too strong to break. Through the good and bad, I want you to always know that I will be by your side. We have already been through a lot together, and I believe that God has been preparing us for this moment and for our future together. I promise to keep the good memories alive, and to let the bad ones die. I vow not to let the sun go down on our anger, and to treat each morning as a new day to love you, the gift I have been given. I will not forsake you or these vows that we have made, but rather strive to show you my love for the rest of our lives. This is my promise to you.
Tears are welling up in my eyes, he touched my heart and the heart of many people among us. “Abigail you may start.”
I swallow, clear my throat.
Luka Kovac, we both have a past. A live before us. Knowing from each other were we come from has been a delight full thought. We shared a dark period and managed to break it. We made family of that what we had from our past. This marriage is not to show other how much we care and love each other, it’s a closing of a shadowed life we had before us. I vow not to let the sun go down on our anger, and to treat each morning as a new day to love, the gift we both have been given. I will not forsake you or these vows that we have mad, but rather strive to show you my love for the rest of our lives. This is my promise to you.
“You may kiss the bride.” The vicar says. Slowly Luka moves forward holding his left hand in my neck to comfort it, he always does that. My right hand I place on his back. Our lips are touching and finally there it is the kiss. Everyone in the garden claps and I feel Luka smiling.
The evening is the most precious one I ever had. Micha made a drawing of Luka and me while we were lying on the couch, kissing of course. Underneath he had written, dad still tries to eat mom’s tongue. The word mom touched my heart and I hold the kid so close till he whispered he couldn’t breath. He laughed and I knew it would be ok. Dani made a photo collage of everyone who is in this little family thing. And when she hugged me she said 'I’m proud at both of you mom'. She stole my heart again. Katie bought a painting of two people holding hands, she climbed on my lap and told me dad hadn’t time to get something better. I told her I loved it. I don’t cause I know this was a gift from his sister when we married. Sam wrote me a poem.
‘For Abby, my beloved sister & Luka, my beloved brother in law.
I witnessed the love that grew between you, It is a strong and deep one.
A love that will last forever, Even in the darkest nights.
This marriage is a blessing for a lot of people, It a thing that wont be stopped.
With all the love between you two, You could fix and old mans heart.
This love I witnessed to grow, Is a remarkable thing for all of us you know.
We, as kids, are on the sideline, At least we thought.
But you two never left us out, We were always in your hearts.
Feeling that we were beloved and sheltered, Gave us power to help it grow.
Today we have witnesses a new mark in our lives, Again we were a part of it, Knowing this love will still grow.
Abby, Luka. You’ve been blessed to find each others heart, The love you have for both of you is way to deep to break.
I wish you both much more love, Knowing it still grows.
With all my love, Samantha Wyzcenski.
That night we are both too tired to make love. We just lay down in bed in each others arms listening to the kids who were still awake and talking about the whole day. Micha is talking about his moment, yeah he made that one clear by tripping on his way to us with the rings.
“Abby, will you turn of the lights?” Luka asks when I come back from the bathroom. “Yes I do.”
-------------------------The end.-----------------------------------
Poem written by myself. (All poems used in this fic are written by myself, if you want to use them ask first please. Don't want them wondering around the internet...)
I'm not sure if this is really the end of the story....you will notice it soon enough. (I could continue this story forever but it needs to end at some point...)
Thanks for all your reviews/comment, I really appriciate that. I'll hope you all love my other stories I will write in the future.
Love, Ann.

Sorry.......just couldn't end it. This story means a lot too me. So..I'll update.
10 years have passed.
Things have changed, in good and bad ways for us. Richard took Katie out of our lives, I passed it and although it still hurts I’m not worried any longer. Susan and Sam are an item and life together in Brooklyn. Sam became architect and designs houses, Susan works in a local hospital. They come around when they can. Dani stayed out of trouble in her teens and is now a beautiful young woman, she turned 27 last month. Happy married to her love of her life and pregnant with her first child. Micha, the rebel, he was a hard one to get trough High School but he managed and is attending Boston University, Law school. Luka, he made it to chief of staff down in the ER. I’m still working as a doctor and I still love it with whole my heart.
It’s almost Christmas and the kids will get home to spend Christmas with us. We made that appointment with them when they left the house to fly away and build their own lives.
“Abby, you’ll go to the airport to get Micha and I’ll go to the mall to do the shopping, right?” Luka asks when he opens his eyes. “Yes. Don’t forget to bring Neela and Michelle with you when you come back.” “I wont. I’m not like you.” Pointing at the fact that I always forgot to pick up Micha from school or soccer practice. “Don’t go there. I won’t forget him today.” And I slap a pillow on his face. “I love you.” He tells me looking deeply into my eyes. I nod my head, it still makes me meltdown when looks like this.
“Hey mom!” It’s Micha who’s approaching me with wide open arms. “Hey kiddo! Glad to see you’re in one piece.” And I give him a hug. “Don’t kiddo me. I’m a grown up now.” He says. And he is. He’s even taller then Luka. His hair is short, too short I think, wearing a suit fits him real good. “Dani and Sam already at home?” He asks. “Nah. Sam and Susan are flying in on Christmas Eve and Dani is on her way by car.” He shakes his head knowing his sister will never learn to fly. He puts his arm on my shoulder and we walk away.
“You don’t wanna know who I bumped into at school last Thursday.” He says when were in the car. “Maybe but I think you’re about telling me.” I say when I look at him. “Kate.” He takes my hand, knowing this hurts like hell. “You’re kidding right?” “No. She’s in her first year of med-school. We talked a little and she told me she would contact you when she was able. I gave her your cell-phone number. Hope that’s ok.” “Did she look good? Was she doing fine?” My eyes are filling up with tears. “She looks exactly like you mom. Every bit of her reminded me of you. Think she was doing fine, she had to rush to her class and I haven’t seen her since. It’s ok to cry.” He says still holding my hand. He’s such a great and sensitive boy. “It’s ok kiddo. Sorry Micha...” He laughs and I know he doesn’t hate the kiddo thing at all.
“Dad!” Micha says when we enter the living where Luka, Neela and Michelle are having a coffee. “Hey son. How are you?” “I’m fine. Good to be home though. Hey Neela and Michelle.” Micha walks over to Michelle, Neela’s 2 year old daughter, and lifts her up. The girl starts laughing like crazy. “Micha, you’ve changed the past couple of months.” Neela says when she notices he’s even more handsome then his dad. “Thanks Neela. How’s this little one doing? She’s a princess.” Micha says when he takes a seat with Michelle on his lap. “Fine, growing like a beanstalk and always on the run, just like her dad.” We all have a flash moment of silence, remembering her Michael. “What’s for dinner?” I ask Luka to break the awkward silence. “Sarma, Zagorje strudel and chocolate ice-cream for dessert.” “Sounds great.” I never will get the whole Croatian dinner thing, it’s way too much for me. “You’ll love it.” And he gives me his famous kiss. Micha let out a brief laugh and I still can’t help it to laugh with him.
“Luka that was the best I ever have eaten. Thank you for dinner.” Neela says when her taxi is ready to hit the road. “You’re more than welcome. Have a safe flight.” He says before he hugs her and says goodbye. “Neela, take care. Just know that if you need anything I’ll be there for you. And let me know when if you have landed.” I tell her trying to avoid a big crying incident. “I will Abby. Thanks for everything.” And she turns around and goes into the car. We wave. I’ll hope her family will help her get trough this, she lost her best-friend and lover at the same time. The father of their daughter.
“I’m off to bed. Good night.” Micha says. “Good night kiddo.” And we both smile. “What is going on between you two? You both have shared so much laughter’s today. Tell me.” Luka says when he gets his mind of the movie we were watching. “Ah nothing dad. It’s the fling between me and Abby. Like we used to have.” And he walks away leaving Luka with his mouth open, not knowing what to say. “It’s ok Luka. He told me he didn’t liked the kiddo thing any longer, he’s a grown up now you know.” And I smile. “God help me. Help me get trough the holiday’s without going nuts.”
