Apparently there have been problems in the US because the passport rules have changed and you now need a passport to go to Canada... and there are all sorts of rules about kids getting passports. Just crossed the US Canadian border this weekend for a soccer tournament. Didn't need passports for the kids...yet. The rules regarding entrance and exit of the US will become fully enforced January of 2008. It's got something to do with actually applying for citizenship, I believe - I don't think it's automatic, I believe for Joe (and Abby, as she is equally eligible by marriage in Croatia) to gain citzenship, there's an application process, forms, etc. that are more complicated than the passport itself. Both of them are eligible for citizenship. The catch 22 is that a person already has to be in Croatia to submit their application for citizenship. That's why it's more of a hassle than anything. First Abby and Joe will have to get American passports to travel to Croatia and once there they can both apply for Croatian citizenship. Hmmm...so they could hold dual citizenship in Croatia and the US? Cool. Theoretically. But the US frowns upon dual citizenship, so it could be tricky. The US has no control over other countries granting citizenship to American citizens. I'm a triple citizen, my son, is a dual citizen. The only times when it really becomes a problem is if a person decides to join the military (or are drafted) or run for office. In those cases ( and I'm not entirely familiar with the protocol as I don't plan on doing either of those things) abdication of citizenship is ideal, and in some cases, I believe required. Honestly, the biggest issue here isn't the wait for passports, it's the fact that Luka is already out of the country. Due to serious child smuggling and parental custody disagreements, (among other things) there are very strict rules regarding minors traveling abroad. In order for a child to get a US passport, both parents must be present or the remaining parent must have a signed, notarized Statement of Consent from the absentee parent. Without Luka present in the US, it's basically impossible for Abby to acquire a passport for Joe. He would have to return to the US to be able to get Joe a passport or Abby would have to fly to Croatia by herself. Legally, the only way around it, would be for Abby to get a court order which would allow her to travel with Joe without requiring Luka's permission. The bottom line is that Joe can't apply for Croatian citizenship (and subsequently a Croatian passport) until he's physically in Croatia, and he can't get to Croatia until he has an American passport. And he can't get an American passport unless both his parents are in the US, so as long as Luka is in Croatia, little Joe is stranded over here.

We don't know if Luka already signed the papers... in an emergency, like it was, he may be sign it on the federal police ( in the airport )... we don't know if he's coming back too... all we know is that Goran is going to do six episodes but if it's in Croatia or in the US, we don't know...
IF the episodes are in the US ( like I think, sadly because I wanted some episodes in Croatia, it will be, as Goran, said some papers, but I don't know if it's true, won't be travelling this year because of his son ) he ( Luka ) may give the authorization...

Eh...I am beginning to think there might be something other than passport problems going on with Luka. What if there are some issues dealing with his involvement in the Croatian war for independence??? I know it was a long time ago in ER respects but I can't get that look on his face off my mind..... He really did not want them to go with him.

I disagree. I think it had more to do with the realization that he'd been away from home for so long and now was going back in very unpleasant circumstances. Not to mention the discomfort with having to leave his family so abruptly - and call off the honeymoon they'd been waiting seven years for. He didn't want to go, of course, but I think it was more circumstantial than anything.

Well, there's going to be some angst for them. Thik like a script writer, Maggie....like an ER script writer! Heh.

It's enough of a plotline to get him out for a considerable period as is. Plus, Luka wasn't involved in the war for independence. He was in the military as per requirement during a time of relative stability. He was finishing his residency during the war.

Larue, even if he was involved, as a criminal of war, the police or FBI would have arrested him before ( and this fact would have been on the series ) ... so, don't worry... dani

Just ran across this at the AEB....apparently a reply to something regarding next season:
ER, however, is still very much alive, and it is currently adding new characters for the upcoming 14th season. One of them is a Doogie Howser of sorts. And we also get acquainted with Neela’s young cousin, who has a bit of a wild streak that Neela must monitor.

I guess TPTB are attempting to draw young viewers with newer and less mature characters to compete with the other medical shows out there. With Luka/Abby coming full circle and wrapping up their storyline, they have to fill in the blanks somewhere!

Yeah i guess so....Does anyone know if Maura is still the lead female role??? And who the male lead rols is going to be....(I personally hope that it is Pratt, and not Gates....That would really piss me off if he was the lead after just one season... )

And who the male lead rols is going to be....(I personally hope that it is Pratt, and not Gates....That would really piss me off if he was the lead after just one season... ) I believe the "lead" is actually unofficial, just a title that Maura and Goran picked up this year as the rest of the show sort of caved in on itself. If there were a male lead, it would likely be the longest-running main character, which would indeed be Pratt/Mekhi, followed by Morris (Scott Grimes) (as he has less storylines than Pratt), Ray (Shane West), and then Gates (Stamos). Of course, it looks as though they may push Tucci as the "lead" in lieu of Goran. I'm hoping for a big storyline for Dubenko, myself. Leland Orser is great, and Dubenko has always had some great lines, despite his little attempt to make Abby his "concubine". Maybe he'll finally get a romantic part. Or kill Gates. That would work for me, too.
