3. It bugged me that they didn't follow the right procedures for law. As a lawyer I am kind of picky about TV shows, and they never show things right. The thing that bothered me the most is the Asian characters that Peale mentioned in her closing argument. You can't introduce new evidence in the closing; it is only for reiterating what has already been said. I know shows do this kind of thing all the time...but it's a pet peeve of mine. I discussed this with a friend, actually, and we didn't think the Chinese symbol scar was actually introduced in closing, but that they omitted Kathryn's acknowledgement of it from the earlier scenes so as to toy with us. Other than that, pretty much agree with everything you said. Except that I thought Rob Morrow was a little over-dramatic in the delivery of some of his lines. Or over-eager, whichever. And yes, the clips at the end were unnecessary. I would rather have seen their closing statements in their entirety, too. Still, I was happy enough to keep watching, and look forward to the next ep. I'll be interested to see what the ratings are like, once they come in.

I watched 'The Event' on Monday and the way THAT one jumped around made me not really notice it in this. I liked how they identified the prosecution, the defense and the trial before each section. Maura's lines were a hoot. Loved the look on her face and the inflection when she said 'you said something intelligent?' to her third chair guy. SO cute. Liked the comraderie between Kate and Jimmy. REALLY, really liked getting a picture of the conversation that goes down within a team when putting together a case. I think I am going to like it......

I'm not really sure where to start with my thoughts about the pilot. Maura was good, of course, and I really did like all the rest of the supporting cast. Rob Morrow had moments of being a totally decent actor (like the first scene we saw of him meeting with his client, and with Kathryn in the bar at the end) but he was so ridiculously over-the-top and awful in almost every other scene, that I was embarrassed to be watching him. It was just horrid. I can't blame the cheesy dialogue on him, but his delivery made the bad lines even worse. Maura at least tried to salvage some of the goofy stuff they made her say.
Nicole, I completely agree that the choppy back-and-forth stuff didn't work. It just seemed gimmicky and silly to me. And yes, showing clips to 'remind' us of testimony we'd heard two seconds before? Not exactly having a lot of faith in the intelligence of the audience LOL. It just felt like the whole thing moved *too* quickly - I wish we could've seen more of them investigating the case, examining the witnesses, giving their closings, etc.
I think what bummed me out the most, though, is that the stuff they keep saying the show *won't* be about - specifically the development of the characters and their personal lives - was the stuff that really worked. The relationships between Kathryn/Edge, Jimmy/Alejo, etc. was the best part of the show for me. The acting and the writing were so much richer in those scenes than in the courtroom scenes. I hope they can see that and make some big changes in the coming episodes.
And if Kathryn's going to have anything going on romantically with anyone on the show, I'd want it to be Chad the rookie - I thought he was very good, not to mention adorable LOL

I hope everyone enjoyed the pilot, I was recording it and watching the SVU premire, but we had some weather issues in our area and the emergency alert system broke in twice in the 9pm hour. I flipped it over at the very end and it broke in again and I did not find out the whole truth. I'll have to watch the re-run on Friday hopefully without interruptions.

I have to say that I really enjoyed it. Maybe, after reading some reviews, I didn´t expect much....
Loved Maura AND her character (and I want to know more about her)
It was not has fast as I was afraid it would be (thank God, btw). See, the reviews really scared me ahahah
Things I´d like to change: - Rob - stop screaming his lines. - They should let the actors do their closing statements (as ILA4E said). Those clips were really stupid and a waste of time.
Hummm, they recasted(is this the right word?) her "boyfriend"?
Thanks for the link, Fe.
Can´t wait to see Maura on my TV, it´s great news Abby-Road. It's a shame we'll have to wait till november.... Damn

I agree with Tara.
The show needs to slow down a little bit and Rob Morrow needs a lot of work. I liked his scenes with Maura though. He was acting so over the top in the rest of them. My favorite part was when Kathryn told Chad to go away. I thought that was cute. I honestly would be surprised if the ratings are high.
This makes me wonder if Maura would have done the show if Tom didn't create it for her?

Okay, so i just watched, and OMG, i loved it! Now i really dont know a whole lot about law, the extent my knowledge is basically from Ally McBeal and The Good Wife lol, but i was pretty happy with the way they played all that part out. I followed what was going on, and for me, that was enough Maura of course was amazing. She is like totally flawless. I love her character, i am always drawn to characters who are very witty and also have a vulnerable side. Im interested to find out more about her character, i feel like she is hiding something, like somthing that could play a huge part in the way she lives her life, ie all about the job kinda thing. I watched 'The Event' on Monday and the way THAT one jumped around made me not really notice it in this. Ahh! So did i! (Was well impressed with The Event btw) I never really noticed, i mean i did obviously see that they jumped about, but it was easy enough to follow, unlike The Event where i got pretty confused, and i actually like it like that. It makes it different. It stands out more, i mean i dont watch a lot of law shows like i have said, but they are all pretty much the same when it comes to how the legal parts are played out. Anyway, i am so glad this is on tv, and that Maura is back on tv I was really surprised about how much i enjoyed it because tbh, i wasnt completely convinced i was going to like it. I cant wait until next week now! (P.s i apologise for any spelling/grammer errors, im being lazy lol)

This makes me wonder if Maura would have done the show if Tom didn't create it for her? In my opinion, no. I really think it was a combination of her friend asking her to do it and - as she mentioned in the NY Times article she did near the end of North Atlantic - it being a role that wasn't emotionally draining like Abby.

Ausiello just posted on Twitter that the show tanked in the ratings. If they cancel it pretty soon, she can move on to something more worthy of her talents.

I can't blame the cheesy dialogue on him, but his delivery made the bad lines even worse. I felt the same way, but I have never seen him act before, so I thought I was overreacting. BTW, I made this little something for my Tumblr:
