I'm trying to think of this as one of those 'everything happens for a reason' situations. Not the cancer, that's totally UNreasonable, but as far as Parenthood goes. For whatever reason, this role just wasn't meant to be. It sucks and I hate it, but to me it just means there's another role waiting in the wings for her that she's meant to do when she's ready. Who knows, maybe it's some great indie film that takes off and wins her an Oscar. Why not, right?

" but I have the feeling that the "emotional and healthy good suffering vibe" is gone..." I have to add, of MY PART in relation to the show and Sarah's character [ I can't watch the teaser's though, it all returns because MT is AMAZING] , nothing to do with Maura. I guess if one is diagosed with cancer, one should focus 100% on one's health and treatment. Forget the rest. Of course I also believe she'll return with better roles and continue to give amazing performances.

Ok, I just have to comment on this. I was reading Variety (entertainment trade magazine) online and saw this quote (Sept. 14th) from NBC Entertainment President Angela Bromsted regarding having to postpone 'Parenthood' due to Maura's treatment. "The only disappointment was for Maura, personally. This is almost better for us, to save 'Parenthood' and hold it back until after the Olympics."
You have got to be kidding me. That is some seriously bad spin from NBC, not to mention cold as ice. The ONLY disappointment?? Almost better for us?? They are going to have to spend more money (probably a lot) to find a big name female lead. It will be very costly to re-shoot the 'Sarah' scenes. They will have a difficult time finding an actress who so unselfishly blends with a powerfull ensemble cast. And they will have to deal with the fact that almost every reviewer said Maura's performance was the best thing about the pilot. It will be very interesting to read reviews of the premiere of the new 'Parenthood' from those critics/reviewer who saw the 'Maura' pilot. It will be difficult for them not to compare the two.
Why can't they just admit this was a huge blow and sell the show on it's merits rather than diminish Maura's loss? This seems very arrogant for a network struggling to have one decent scripted show. Maybe I don't want Maura in "Prime Suspect", she would have to work for these NBC losers again.

That is seriously bad taste. I'm very glad her comment wasn't picked up anywhere else. I'm sure if it was up to the show's producers and the rest of the cast, they would have given Maura as long as she needed. As it is, whoever is cast as Sarah will always be Maura's "replacement" and the show will over-shadowed by what could have been.
I'm surprised that there hasn't been an announcement yet about recasting. It makes me wonder if they have (rightly and understandably IMO) had second thoughts about Helen Hunt: not only does she have a reputation as an on-set diva, but recent photographs of her suggest that it would be difficult to sell her as a 37 year old. There is nothing wrong with looking your age, but it is an issue if the character is meant to be 10 years younger than the actor and she can't sell it.

At first I thought - with all those articles talking about Helen in Parenthood - they almost had a deal. Now seems things are not that settle. Maybe the problem is her salary, or her wanting more power in the project... who knows. The thing is, Helen is wrong for the part, and I´ll probably just watch the pilot to scream "Maura would be better" to my tv. It would be a great part to Maura - no doubt-, but I refuse to consider this the best part of her career. It is a very very sad thing to say, considering no one is going to see her playing Sarah. I´d rather think the best is yet to come (as the song says) and I´m gonna see it!!! Heal Maura

What would be the most tactful way for me to say that NBC can suck it? LOL That network is truly run by morons and has been for years. My personal take on the situation is that I think NBC believes she *can* continue, but just doesn't want to, and they're pissed at her. Again, that's just my personal speculation.
Maura's smart, strong and a true success in her profession, so it's not like she's losing out on her big break here. We know she's going to be more than okay without NBC. But I don't think NBC's going to be able to say the same about being without her, at least not as far as this show goes.

I asked Matt that on Twitter after we found out Maura dropped out - I didn't think he'd use it as a question on his blog LOL. He and I have a mutual friend, an actress named Sarah Brown, and we were telling her we wanted *her* to replace Maura because we couldn't stand the idea of Helen Hunt LOL. Anyway, Sarah just left General Hospital and started a new job on The Bold & The Beautiful, so that's what he's referring to.

LOL! Martine and I posted the news at the same time.
I still couldn't bring myself to watch the show without Maura, but I could live with Lauren in the role since she's someone Maura knows and has worked with in the past - and presumably wouldn't make life miserable for the rest of the cast the way Helen Hunt would have LOL

I don´t know, it´s hard to see LG as the un un un woman (no job, no husband, no career...).
Well, maybe it´s unfair to anyone who gets the job, but I just can´t imagine anybody doing a better job than our Maura.
In my heart Sarah is just ruined. The only moments I care about are the little ones I saw Maura playing her.

Lauren Graham's nose bothers me....could never watch 'Gilmore Girls' because of her. Don't know why. My personal take on the situation is that I think NBC believes she *can* continue, but just doesn't want to, and they're pissed at her. Again, that's just my personal speculation.Touche. I am inclined to think that NBC and the Parenthood production team were undoubtedly thrown for a loop and were bending over backwards to keep her. Cancer is a creepy thing that generates different responses. Some people try to work their way all through all of the treatments and others prefer to slink off and lick their wounds to heal themseles in private. While I have friends who would schedule their chemos for Friday afternoons in order not to miss any more teaching days than necessary......I am afraid I am a slinker. I would take a leave of absence in order to concentrate on just me. Hence Maura's reaction. And she would be dealing with it all in a very public manner. Not good when you have such a need for privacy.

Very well said Larue. Imagine undergoing radiation/chemo/whatever treatments and either continuing them or just finishing them, moving to LA (a place you aren't particularly fond of) away from your family, friends, and possibly your serious boyfriend, while having the pressure of being the lead in NBC's most important new TV show in years. 12-14 hour days (with lots of downtime to think about cancer) and working with a group of people you don't know very well and are not particularly close to.
The stress would be huge, especially knowing that in past articles she admits to being so insecure and sensitive to stress. If she is trying to quit smoking, recover emotionally, and stay fit and healthy, working on Parenthood would make that EXTREMELY difficult.
I don't really know Lauren Graham's work, I have never even considered watching anything on CW network. But since she has a connection with Maura from celeb poker and Newsradio, I wonder if they talked about it. My feeling is that there is a mutual respect, and while it makes me VERY sad to read of anyone replacing Maura, I think she would want the show to be as successful as possible without her.

Whatever Maura wants, decides to do I´m 100% with her.
I don´t know about Maura, but I wouldn´t be noble and discuss the project or wish them good luck if I were out. To me it would be a finished thing and I would move on to other things, like follow the treatment; be around my friends and family; give up smoking (big, big deal); maybe read some stuf.... So I wouldn´t care less about the future of Parenthood. Well, but thats me.
I saw some episodes of Gilmore Girls and as a Newsradio fan, I remember Andrea, but nothing more than that. Seems to me they´ll make big changes on Sarah to fit to Lauren. I can´t imagine her selling failure and dispair.
They say Parenthood will be a dramedy, it may work with enphasis on Peter Krause doing the drama/comedy part, and Lauren getting the comedy (and very very light drama).
Anyway, the Sarah I read about and saw Maura doing won´t be the one Parenthood will have - no matter who plays her. So, my interest in the show is right is very very low. Almost only the curiosity to see how the replacement will be.
