Thanks Elsj for digging up that NY Post article. Apparently, I got a few of the details wrong, as it's been several years since that came out. Whatever happened, it's a LONG way from "Winona Ryder-esque" and was obviously all in good fun. Oh, and Noora, sorry about the abbreviation. I notice not too many people use them here, but it's a hard habit to break. IMO is "in my opinion" and LMAO is "laughing my ass off". Hope it helps.

Oh no, I don't mind you using them at all. I just didn't know what they meant cause I live in Finland and we don't really use them .. Thanks for telling me. I'm a jaywalker! I admit! I live in small village (about 7000 citizens live here) and we don't even have traffic lights. I cross the stereet when I want to, it doesn't matter if the car comes. They usually stop. Is it illegal in LA? Wow, I wouldn't surivive a day in there. I'd be in jail in seconds.

Well... I would be damn sight annoyed if I'm driving along and some dude steps out on the road in front of me... hmm I have a choice either slam on my brakes to let the geezer live or press on the gas to speed up to send the geezer to hell... oops my bad! Different countries have different rules... like in France, if you are on the roundabout to have to give way the traffic COMING on it as here in the UK you give way to the traffic already ON the roundabout...

I honestly don't think jaywalking is a real problem. Most people look both ways before crossing a street. It would have to be a fast moving vehicle that would have to slam on the brakes for someone just stepping out..... Does that REALLY happen alot in LA??? We just did it...as a family...incrossed the street to a restaurant in FRONT OF THE COPS and they didn't bat an eye.

it's actually illegal all over the US. they just don't care on the east coast, it's kind of a hobby to jaywalk, and a hobby for drivers to swear at the jaywalkers. i do both, personally. you'd think i;d learn, but nope.

So it was obviously Maura's 'New York frame of mind' that would get her into trouble in LA. LOL Too funny.

Hehehe, it's funny...how different countries have different rules...i live in Lima city (Peru) and people here, are totally crazy. You can Jaywalk... if you wanna get killed... cars never stop, no matter what happens, even if you look both ways before crossing a street, you must run as fast as you can, before a car runs over you...Maura jaywalking a street in Lima, that would be a funny thing to see...

Naw, it's easy to jaywalk in here. There's one main road in here and there really aren't that much cars driving ..

I live in Chicago and I've never heard of anyone getting stopped for jaywalking. I do it all the time.
